I have a feeling that either someone will realize that Michael C. Hall is well overdue or Jon Hamm will nab the repeat award. Interesting that there's no nomination for Bryan Cranston?

amysusanne- 12-11-2008

I'm thinking Hamm will get it, partly because he's *awesome* and partly because the HFPA want to give it to him on live tv as opposed to via FedEx. I thought the lack of Cranston nom was interesting, but I'm guessing the GGs don't like being scooped by the Emmys. Nominating Cranston's no longer bold and interesting and since they wouldn't have given it to him anyway, why waste the nomination? That's my theory, because otherwise "Breaking Bad" is total Golden Globe bait. Could that potentially hurt or help the show? Will voters care? Or is it too early to tell? It doesn't have any impact one way or the other. Besides the fact that it's just not going to win (it's an old show and, if i had to guess, the last one put on the ballot), there are only 90something members of the HFPA and they're more into keeping it new and fresh and interesting and "House" is none of those things when put up against the rest of the noms. The only tired and stale show that still gets legitimate play over there is "Entourage" which is in the toilet as far as quality goes these days, but which the HFPA are endlessly fascinated with. The rest are just filler. "30 Rock" will win, "Mad Men" will win, Baldwin and Fey will win, Hamm will *probably* win and then next year we'll move on. Shows like "Weeds" are no longer real contenders, but get nominated because of their star and cool factor. Shows like "The Office" are in the same boat. He's as amazing today as he's always been, but the Tony Shalhoub nomination had me scratching my head a little bit. eta: on the subject of "Entourage", I'm amazed and a little puzzled that Kevin Connolly was nominated. Good for him since, aside from Ari and Lloyd, he's the only non-grating person on that show this season, but it's still out of left field.

No nomination for Tritter :( (I had thought David Morse might have a shot for supporting role in "John Adams")

I know this pretty much makes me a bad and petty person...and has nothing to do with actually deserving awards...but there's a big part of me that doesn't want someone else to get repeat wins so soon after Hugh did it. Can't explain it! I just don't. I'm not proud of myself for feeling that way...but there it is!

amysusanne- 12-11-2008

No nomination for Tritter (I had thought David Morse might have a shot for supporting role in "John Adams") I haven't even *seen* that category. Who did the nominations go to? That's such a bitch of a category. I hate the way the Globes do it. I know this pretty much makes me a bad and petty person...and has nothing to do with actually deserving awards...but there's a big part of me that doesn't want someone else to get repeat wins so soon after Hugh did it. Can't explain it! I just don't. I'm not proud of myself for feeling that way...but there it is! Well, you *could* just pretend that last year never happened. I assume most of the rest of the viewing public is doing just that. {g}

It's on IMDB's "Road to the Globes" page. Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television Nominees:Neil Patrick Harris for "How I Met Your Mother" (2005) Denis Leary for Recount (2008) (TV) Jeremy Piven for "Entourage" (2004) Blair Underwood for "In Treatment" (2008) Tom Wilkinson for "John Adams" (2008) Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television Nominees:Eileen Atkins for "Cranford" (2007) Laura Dern for Recount (2008) (TV) Melissa George for "In Treatment" (2008) Rachel Griffiths for "Brothers & Sisters" (2006) Dianne Wiest for "In Treatment" (2008)

amysusanne- 12-11-2008

Thanks, deelaundry. I saw the actresses, but I just realized that nowhere that I've looked has had the actors. That's so weird. And, again, what a fucked up category. NPH should not be competing against Tom Wilkinson who should not be competing against Blair Underwood and so on and so on. So weird. You're right...that's what I'm gonna do! I feel better already... I'm here to help. Sometimes, at least. The rest of the time I'm just here to mock...

Congratulations to both Hugh and House for the noms. I was pleasantly surprised. I had prepared myself for non-noms for the show and Hugh, just felt the Globes were going to go in another direction this year. Apparently, there is still love for Hugh Laurie - always nice to see. I am surprised about the lack of a nomination for Bryan Cranston as well, but I am really, really happy to see both The Tudors and Jonathan Rhys Meyers nominated again. Meyers is dynamic in his role of King Henry VIII. I don't think Hugh is going to win, but I will be rooting for him anyway. I will also be rooting for a Meyers' win. The noms are a bit of a condemnation of network television. HBO has pretty much taken over the awards for mini-series at the Emmys and now it looks like cable television is on the verge of dominating the drama series categories. House is on an island right now when it comes to network television.

amysusanne- 12-11-2008

Cable has the edge because they have the ability to be new and different or at least edgy, if not interesting. If you look at the network shows nominated, most of them could easily be cable shows. "30 Rock" and "The Office" would totally fit in on most cable outlets and so much of what gets noticed by the GGs are of the single camera variety. Three or four camera sitcoms (or shows that look like three or four camera sitcoms) just aren't appealing to them. For good reason most of the time, but they have the look they like.

Sad not to see Stephen Dillane in Supporting category as Thomas Jefferson in John Adams. Happy to see Fiennes in there, though.

60 plus- 12-11-2008

Although I'm obviously rooting for Hugh and House, I am happy to see In Treatment, Gabriel Byrne, Diane Wiest, etc. nominated. I found that show mid-series last season quite by accident and was immediately drawn into it. I was surprised that it didn't have more of a buzz around it.

Boffle- 12-11-2008

House is sitll the only tv show I regularly watch and I attribute that to Hugh Laurie. Another win for him is what I'm rooting for. And a House win would be awesome, so I'm rooting for that too. Go network TV!

Go network TV! Me too! I was almost expecting them to skip Hugh this year, but pleased that he is still picking up noms. That being said, if Hugh can't win I sure think that Michael C. Hall is way overdue. The poor guy must get sick of attending awards shows and going home empty-handed. Also, I'm very surprised at them dissing Bryan Cranston. I'll never understand how these awards thingies work.
