Perhaps Wilson should also develop a drug addiction; it would definitely help his chances. That's SO third season, dahlings. Getting shot or having a terminal illness is used up too, and they've already killed someone he loves. He should develop a raging mental illness instead. Moving to the James Wilson thread.

So glad HL submitted House's Head. And it has been way too long since we have heard him give an acceptance speech for any award.

Any of the other cast who want awards nominations should consider making a hugely viral web video that gets tons and tons of press...Sarah Silverman made the short list in both lead and guest comedy actress categories :) Former poetry-writing clinic patient Shirley Knight also made the guest comedy actress list, for Desperate Housewives.

Interesting or scary how many commenters mention that Spader & Hamm (sounds like an English Pub) are a real threat to HL. I'm not surprised becasue I've read that here from people who watch BL and MM. Could JS actually wind up with 4 Emmys! Nice also some of the disappointment for RSL. Glad to see Eddie Izzard made the top ten. I don't think he'll make the final five but I adore him. Just saw him last week at RCMH in his show "Stripped" he was fantabulous!

David E. Kelley did a good job picking out Spader's submission. Personally, I liked his work better in 'The Mighty Rogues', but I can see why they went with 'The Court Supreme'

I think I read that he submitted "The Wheel?". If so, that's got Emmy written all over it. Glad to see Eddie Izzard made the top ten. I don't think he'll make the final five but I adore him. I've got tickets for next Friday's show in Seattle! Oh bailey I really think you will have a great time. I also saw an earlier version he did in February in NYC at the much smaller Union Square Theatre. He changed things up and added, per usual, but it's all wonderful. The man is Love. :w00t: The JS threat is very real, because his tape is 100% pure Emmy bait. David E. Kelley did a good job picking out Spader's submission. With Bryan Cranston and Kyle Chandler rounding out the category (Michael C. Hall is the dark horse). You heard it her first. :P Still House’s Head also screams Emmy so is there anyone who has seen all three and would care to make a prediction or give a preference on who takes the winged lady home this year. Not too loud though, we don’t want to upset Boffle. :(

Jon Hamm's performance in "The Wheel" episode was riveting and certainly Emmy worthy. Spader's submitted episode was also strong, but it didn't move me in the same way. A little too formulaic for my taste. (But that is my usual complaint with David Kelly's shows). Though I've seen all three episodes I can't be objective. House is the only show that I watch every single episode of (and then rewatch). And no matter how strong the other two actors are, HL has consistently turned in amazing performances and has made a caustic, seemingly unlikable character fascinating rather than annoying. And he is in almost every scene of every show. So while the other two are talented and deserving, in my opinion it should be no contest. Spader's been recognized (again and again!) and Hamm will have his turn I'm sure. But give HL his Emmy this year!!

But give HL his Emmy this year!! Seriously. We're good fans; we'll only demand the one (this year :) ). But really, since this show has begun, HL has been the one mentioned over and over again for his amazing work that has yet to be recognized by the Academy. And you know what? Spader doesn't have to affect a foreign accent 16 hours a day. Hamm has no limp. But our man? He has both, as well as the task of embodying the loveliest bastard to ever grace our screens. Very, very few people in this business work as hard as Hugh Laurie. Golden Globes and SAG Awards are lovely, but there is a gold standard for television -- The Emmy. It's time.

Boffle- 07-02-2008

Thank you. I can breathe now. It's hard to hold your breath for mmmmm eleventy weeks! Hoping for a new Emmy-shaped sconce in HL's trophy room...

Yes and I don't want the closest Hugh comes to holding an Emmy to be that scene from LTD. We're not being greedy here, we only want him to get the one (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). We're going into S5, so it feels a bit like now or never. I know it's been pointed out before, but as talented as the other two may be, no one else has the challenges of the accent, the limp, the cane, and voluminous dialogue often containing a multitude of complex medical terminology. And then there's the whole thing of how he's made what on paper is an unlikeable character, into someone the audience loves and is endlessly fascinated with, while still knowing he's oftentimes an ass. That's not an easy feat and I think there's very few actors who could accomplish what he does with the role. It's way past time for the Emmy's to acknowledge that. I have to wonder if they strictly go by the tape that's submitted, or if other factors go into their decision. In other words if Spader and Hamm had better tapes, would they take into consideration: A.) Spader would be winning for the 4th time; B.) Hamm is a first time nominee and will have other chances to win; C.) Hugh still doesn't have one going into S5. Probably not since they didn't take the opportunity last year everyone thought they would to give Gandolfini a going away Emmy.

I thought the noms in the actor categories wouldn't be announced until 7/17. Why is everyone here saying that RSL is out of the running? What am I missing?

Elompanti- 07-03-2008

idonmatrix, Gold Derby has published the Top 10 lists over the last few days from which eventually the five nominations will come. RSL is not on it. Also, no guest actor nominations for anybody on House.

Boffle- 07-03-2008

Well, here's hopes AD is on the guest actress list...
