Does anyone know the order that Emmys will be awarded in? It kicks off at 1am my time so it'd be great to have an idea of when to set my alarm for the wonderful/disappointing* news. HL seems to be seen as the biggest threat to JG and if HL did win, I don't think anyone would cry foul... so I have a nice little knot of hopefulness in my stomach and I'm going to savour the anticipation and keep my fingers and toes crossed. *delete as appropriate

IIRC, best actor in a drama is usually in the second half of the show. I'm almost certain that best comedy is the last one awarded.

Off topic, sorry. galaxygirl, Edie Falco submitted an episode in which she only appears for 14 minutes, compared to Kyra Sedgwick with 42 minutes of screen time. That's going to have an impact.

amy - I haven't seen The Mexican, but I will definitely check it out since I value your opinion. Yep, Hugh's a big boy. The fans will take him losing harder than he will I'm sure. I've decided to make myself quit thinking about it (ha ha) or going to goldderby every day on the off chance that someone with insider information spills that he is definitely going to win, and just accept the fact that he's not. Then if he does if will be like Christmas and 4th of July rolled into one! It's funny how almost every poll where the fans pick who they'd want - Hugh wins, usually by a big margin. galaxygirl - didn't know that about Ted Danson. I know John Goodman just won his first last weekend on his 10th try, so I guess you shouldn't give up.

hey...ellen burstyn was up for a role in which she was very close to appearing in *negative* time. what was that? 14 seconds? she got a nomination for 14 seconds. so, if edie thought she was stronger in that episode than one she appeared in for more time, she probably knows what she's doing. that said, i'm pulling for kyra. i really warmed up to "the closer" this year and she kind of kicks ass. i wouldn't cry if edie won because she's pretty awesome as well, but kyra rocks. iamdaffodils: seriously...it's a bad movie, so don't blame me for that part. still, the performances are great. {g} and, really? i didn't realize that that was goodman's first emmy. good for him, man.

hey...ellen burstyn was up for a role in which she was very close to appearing in *negative* time. what was that? 14 seconds? she got a nomination for 14 seconds. I'm waiting for someone to get nominated based on the fact that their likeness is used as a still photo in a movie. that said, i'm pulling for kyra. i really warmed up to "the closer" this year and she kind of kicks ass. i wouldn't cry if edie won because she's pretty awesome as well, but kyra rocks. I became a big Kyra fan at Sundance when she was very sympathetic to the fact that I wasn't properly dressed to be doing interviews in -10 degree gusting windy weather. Her husband implied that I looked pretty bad, though. :-) Go Kyra! iamdaffodils, I am a little concerned about you, though. I hope on Monday I don't have to log in and talk you off a ledge or anything because Hugh didn't win. Not that I think he won't. Or doesn't deserve to. But anyway girl, if it looks like Hugh isn't going to pull it out, call me. We'll make plans to stalk him in the next airport. Something. It will be alright. :-)

iamdaffodils- 09-14-2007

Bailey - thanks for being there for me. I've decided to be cautiously optimistic about it....and to have lots of chocolate on hand in case I need to drown my sorrows. I guess drown isn't the right verb though. :) Does anyone know who's announcing Hugh's category? I wish it was Greg Grunberg. He told Hugh before the golden globes that he would say Hugh's name no matter what the envelope said. Gotta love that. amy - I promise I won't hold The Mexican against you! I remember the reviews at the time, so I know it's definitely not Oscar material or anything. Just want to check out Gandolfini's role. Would fast forwarding through most of it be a good idea? :)

IIRC, best actor in a drama is usually in the second half of the show. I'm almost certain that best comedy is the last one awarded. Thanks galaxygirl! Any particular galaxy, btw? I was just looking down the list of newsfeeds at hughlauriefaq and the title of one of them made me grin: "Emmy picks mostly predictable" Whenever I see the word predictable, in my head I hear Hugh and Stephen's wonderfully exhausted delivery of the word, in that spot on critics sketch where they slouch lower and lower in their chairs until they end up sprawled on the floor. A lot of the critics seem kind of irritated by the Emmys in a way I haven't picked up on with other awards (maybe cos I don't have a reason to pay them so much attention!). A couple of other titles from the newsfeed, "Emmy Awards: The bland and the clueless" and "Emmys promise to be as weird as ever". I'm guessing reality is somewhere between those two extremes...

TrooperCam- 09-16-2007

I have seen People's Emmy picks but does anyone have any other magazine or show guess picks?

euphrosyna- 09-16-2007

I'm so annoyed that the Emmys are on a Sunday night. :( I have to work in the morning and with the time difference, I'd be up until 4am to hear! If it was a Friday or Saturday that would be manageable. Why is it a Sunday? Is it just tradition?

TrooperCam- 09-16-2007

Word euphrosyna, the awards are on when I am at PT and then work. We only keep a tv on in the console room unlike at my last station so I can't watch at work and I will be in my new place so I can't catch the replay later in the night

iamdaffodils, I've got a bottle of homemade red Zinfandel wine, just in case, although it would make it difficult to face 4th graders in the morning. I'm not expecting HL to win. Most people seem to think Gandolfini is a lock. Regarding the idea of HL winning because he was robbed last year, wouldn't HL and Gandolfini cancel each other out? IIRC, Gandolfini didn't get a nom last year either. I've never seen The Sopranos, so I have no idea how deserving he was last year, but I remember there was a lot of griping about him being snubbed. On the positive side, HL received numerous prestigous awards this year (beating JG) which might make the Emmy panel give him a closer look. I'm still not sure of the whole voting process. Does it come down to HL's performance in "Half-Wit" for the deciding factor? That was one of those episodes where I felt no sympathy for House and worry that it would negatively influence the judges' voting. In fact, it's one of those episodes that I don't like to re-watch because I remember feeling such disgust for him even though I, as a regular viewer, knew that he wasn't faking cancer to get high, but rather to try and regain some normalcy in his life. I wish he had submitted "Merry Little Christmas" because I felt such a range of emotions for him. It seems to me that the Emmy panel has plenty of time to make their decision and should be able to base that decision on the work of a whole season, not just one episode.

radiosweetheart- 09-16-2007

Leary has the acting chops to ace Laurie's one-note shtick From MSN.TV Thought that was interesting. I admit bias on my part-but 1 note would not be the best description of HL's performance. I'm a big fan of Denis Leary, but Rescue Me has gone from appointment TV to add it to Netflix and watch it on DVD, maybe. Gandolfini's going to win. The Emmy's love a dead horse. That's cool, anyway. I seriously doubt it'll depress Hugh. It'll probably give him a nice, comfortable feeling. No interviews to do tomorrow. Nothing to do but have a few drinks and go back to work in the morning..

iamdaffodils- 09-16-2007

iamdaffodils, I've got a bottle of homemade red Zinfandel wine, just in case, although it would make it difficult to face 4th graders in the morning. sleep LOL! Yeah, that would definitely make Sunday night more fun, but Monday morning a bitch for sure. I wish he had submitted "Merry Little Christmas" because I felt such a range of emotions for him. LogicalLilly - You're preaching to the choir as far as I'm concerned. I loved Half-Wit, but just felt that he didn't have the one scene that really packed an emotional wallop - if that's what the Emmy voters look for - who knows? But In MLC he had at least 3 or 4 of those scenes, most especially the phone call to his mother. When he takes that pause, oh my God. I'll never forget how I felt after that scene ended. I really thought they should have started engraving his name on the statue that same night. Oh well. I guess if this was going to be Gandolfini's year it wouldn't have mattered what he would have submitted. I would still like to know if Hugh had any input or whether Shore/Jacobs chose for him. If that's the case, I wonder if part of the reason Half-Wit was chosen was because Katie Jacobs directed it. Last year No Reason was submitted, and Shore directed that one. I really feel Half-Wit was an excellent choice for the series, but not as much for Hugh. As far as how it's decided I think they only look at one episode for the actor, but 6 for the series.
