EW magazine this week, 6/13/08, did an Emmy wish list while ballots are being filled. It differs from the on line piece from earlier last week.
Their two TV critics authored this one. Again No House or Hugh or RSL mention. :(
For Best Actor Drama they are hopeful for Clarke Peters, The Wire; Dennis Leary, RM; Kyle Chandler, FNL and Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad.
They call a nod for Jon Hamm, MM inevitable
BSD Actor: Michael K. Williams, TW; John Slattery and Vincent Kartheiser both of MM
One of the critics Ken Tucker thinks that BL should be reclassified as a comedy and under that circumstance would push for Spader and Shatner.
Which I guess mean he thinks they should be nominated anyway... or not. :?
Best Drama: The Wire, Lost, Friday Night Lights, Big Love. They think TW and FNL had over all weak seasons but it's the last chance for TW which they feel is overdue and that even weak thay are both better than "98% precent" of the TV dramas out there.

Boston Legal is in no way, shape or form a comedy. To be honest I'm getting a little tired of those critics calling for a reclassification of BL. It's a dramedy, with more emphasis on the drama part, usually using the comedy part to even the show out. YMMV.
TJRX- 06-07-2008
I agree, BL is certainly not a comedy. And is changing a show's classification even possible?
filex1410- 06-07-2008
I didn't realize other critics had said this as well. (I don't watch BL so I can't say either way) I thought it was a little snark of KT asking, "What about petitioning the Emmy committee to reclassify BL as a comedy?" He feels, "It's certainly gone more and more in that direction."
The actual petitioning probably is snark while the opinion seems to be actual.
I'm pretty sure the Comedy/Drama decision comes from the producer submitting. There are certainly shows that have done the dramedy. Moonlighting, Northern Exposure, which while they were considered Dramas award wise I watched both and always thought of them as comedies. Hour formats do tend to be considered Dramas almost automatically, Desperate Housewives being the recent exception.
Namaste- 06-08-2008
I think Desperate Housewives is listed as a comedy, isn't it? And I recall the recent show runner Q&A linked over on the media thread in which someone had to ask the creator of "Pushing Daisies" if he was submitting it as a comedy or drama. (He says he's putting it in the comedy area.)
For what it's worth, the Boston Globe columnist has put HL on his wish list of Emmy nominees, but is stronger on Gabriel Byrne for the award.

Couple of acting submissions, according to GD:
Lisa Edelstein - "Ugly"
Omar Epps - "Whatever It Takes"
Peter Jacobson - "Ugly"

LE submitted 'Ugly'? That's an odd choice, isn't it?

That was my first thought when I saw that she submitted Ugly. I honestly can't figure out why she did that.
I don't even remember OE in Whatever it Takes, but I don't remember any memorable Foreman scenes from last season to begin with.

I think Desperate Housewives is listed as a comedy, isn't it? Yes it is. That's what I meant when I posted that DHW was the recent exception of tagging hour long formats automatically as Dramas.
The same EW article mentions Pushing Daisies & Kristen Chenoweth for Best Comedy & Supporting Actress Comedy so guess they are also bucking the previous trend.
ETA, I would have thought Omar would have done better with Mirror, Mirror since it at least touched on Foreman's wrestling with his having to come back and work for House and how he actually felt about that. I can't remember WIT off the top of my head.
LE might have picked Ugly because it was the only episode were Cuddy seemed to actually be in charge and despite House's attempts at sabatoge she gets what she wanted out of the doco to his horror.
Really what else was there for her maybe DEC. Her scenes in H's H and W's H are very supportive but not really about Cuddy.

Emmy darling Monk is also an hour long.

Good pick up GG!
Although Tony Shaloub is more the darling than Monk.
Has the show gotten any other Emmy nods? Writing perhaps?
ETA, answering my own question in the past 5 years: 3 guest acting nods (2 wins), 2 wins for theme music and TS's 3 wins out of 5 nods. 1 directing and 1 casting nod.
If it had been categorized a drama I doubt Shaloub, great as he is, would have won yet and had a tough time even getting nominated.

I think Monk is much better off in the comedy category. I'm one of those weird people who think that Tony Shaloub deserves every Emmy they give him.
edited because Filey answered her own question :)

Whatever It Takes was a good episode for Foreman, possibly OE’s best this season. I’m pretty sure the speed racer plot got more screen time than House’s CIA B-story, and IMO, it was actually interesting. It was just buried by the suck-itude of the CIA fiasco. Throughout the whole case, Foreman was trying to lead the team even though they questioned his authority every step of the way and went behind his back to treat the patient. He had several scenes with the patient and her father, and showed some humility when he admitted that he had made a mistake in her treatment. He had a hilarious scene in which he called Cameron an “officious bitch” and tricked her into thinking that he had dismissed her patient. Later on, he had a crisis of confidence while talking to Cameron, and she apologized and consoled him. At the end of the episode, his initial diagnosis was vindicated and his leadership status validated by House.
ETA: Not that this matters, because he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of making the short list of ten, let alone a nomination.

Well, I do love Monk and TS is fantastic, but I was just so outraged when he won over Steve Carell, of course I'm incredibly biased, I adore SC, so don't listen to my bitter grumblings.

While I didn't think he did anything remotely Emmy worthy this season, I suppose that's the episode I would pick for him too, if I had to.
He had a hilarious scene in which he called Cameron an “officious bitch” and tricked her into thinking that he had dismissed her patient.
That might be my favorite Foreman moment ever, but I could have been blinded by my Cameron hate (which thankfully lies dormant for the time being.) so I can't tell for sure.

Yes, I've been trying to think if there is anything better that she could have submitted but Cuddy really didn't have much to do this season except push forward Huddy. Maybe LTD. As much as I like Cuddy, I'm not generally a fan of Cuddy centric episodes but it would be nice to see LE get a nomination at some point, but if that ever happens there's just no way it's going to be this year.

Agreed GG, Monk definitely belongs in the comedy category and that Shaloub has deserved his Emmys. Just that it was also helpful to him in his wins because there has been less competition there than in Drama (where I guess they could have put themselves if they wanted) Actor over the last few years. It in no way diminishes his wins. You can only compete against who's out there at the time.
Thanks for the refresher on WIT, misere. Your right, the story at PPTH and Foreman's part in that did get lost as far as viewers on this forum were concerned (me included) in comparison to the reaction, positve and negative, to House at the CIA and the story overall. Once that episode is whittled down to just OE's scenes it will make the best submission and certainly a longer one than MM.
ETA,Maybe LTD. I don't remember Cuddy in LTD, I guess my H/W blinders are even stronger than I thought.
Or it's Sunday and the brain is just not happening.
Except House calls her when she's asleep at home correct?
Also agree that regardless OE and LE have no shot in making the Top 10 list.
