I don't know what John Goodman did but I'm sure it was deserved. David Morse is a fine enough actor but the storyline was too widely detested, I think. I know people will say it doesn't matter that the character was so disliked, and it's true it's not SUPPOSED to matter, but it does.

Yay, John Goodman's win pleases me to no end. His 9th nomination finally brought him the award. Good for him.

I think Morse did a decent job with Tritter, but it didn't sparkle. That's probably mostly the writing though, esp WAD. John Goodman will always have my loyalty. Roseanne changed my life, television, and the Midwest's image. There's no show I can think of that I relate to more.

John Goodman's performance was one of the only enjoyable things in Studio 60, so good for him.

Not to go terribly OT, but I'm from the Midwest and I'm wondering what kind of image it had before Roseanne. I guess I'm not sure how the show necessarily improved upon and/or detracted from the Midwest. On the other hand, I am happy for Goodman. Aside from his stellar TV work, he's been instrumental in a handful of my favorite films from the Coen Brothers and Talking Heads' "True Stories." (Nice flashback to Wild Wild Life here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NXkM8PsPXs ) He's had an enviable career. ETA: And I'm seriously having issues in linking to content. Argh.

Not to go terribly OT, but I'm from the Midwest and I'm wondering what kind of image it had before Roseanne. I guess I'm not sure how the show necessarily improved and/or detracted the Midwest. My squee was probably a bit loud and proud there. It was just, IMO, a lot more honest about growing up working class. I relate to it a lot better than other depictions of rural life. I loved the bluntness. /OT

I forgot to mention that I'm also very pleased with Stanley Tucci's win in the best guest actor in a comedy category. He was awesome in that episode of Monk.

Should we be saying congratulations to the fat suit? And I'm so happy for Stanley Tucci and John Goodman (and Elaine Stritch, while we're at it). All thoroughly deserved wins.

House garnered some "Tubey" awards at The Other Site: Favourite Character Gregory House (House) Favourite Actor Hugh Laurie (House) Most Unwelcome New Character Michael Tritter (House) Worst Chemistry George & Izzie (Grey's Anatomy) 2nd place: House & Cameron Best HoYay! Moment Nathan and Peter almost making out. A lot (Heroes) 2nd place: Guy Love song (Scrubs)* 3rd place: "Although a big, romantic weekend in the Poconos could change everything" (House) Wilson had been up for Best Sidekick (and H & W for Best Relationship and Best Chemistry) but didn't make top three. *Interestingly enough, this whole song is about their love NOT being HoYay :P

House also came in third place for Best Bad-Ass.

misere- 09-13-2007

I literally clapped my hands and yelled "Yay!" when I saw the Favorite Character/Favorite Actor results at TWoP. That surprised me a bit. Then I realized that, in my mind, it offsets the inevitable loss at the Emmys. It also proves that the readers over there are infinitely more wise than the leaders.

Poeia- 09-13-2007

Then I realized that, in my mind, it offsets the inevitable loss at the Emmys. I don't think I like you any more. You do realize that, if he does lose, I'm now planning to blame you, and you alone, for jinxing him.

407- 09-13-2007

Dammit, misere - you just reminded me that HL is, in fact, screwed. Damn that James Gandolfini and his fantabulous acting. God.

wayside- 09-13-2007

Damn that James Gandolfini and his fantabulous acting. God. I think Hugh Laurie's performance as HOUSE is nonpareil. He deserves the Emmy more than anyone else. If Gandolfini wins the reason has to be something other than acting skills.

LightMyCandle- 09-13-2007

If Gandolfini wins (and I'm sure he will  ) it'll be because it was their last season. Stupid freaking Emmys. HL deserves it though and it's just not fair!! Great news from the Tubeys though.
