I wasn't a fan at all of the initial storyline of House-Cameron: "young ingenue falls for gruff older doctor," as Wilson said back in S1. However, I have been impressed with Cameron in Seasons Four and Five. Working independently from House suits her, and their interactions have more spark now. I don't know if we'll get romantic House/Cameron but I'm enjoying their friendship.

As soon as Wilson mocked "young ingenue falls for gruff older doctor, leading him to a greater understanding of his wounded heart", it was a sign that this wasn't what was going to happen. I wish they had played it out properly though. Cameron tried to give up after Stacy came back but the show continued to tease House's interest in her through the second season up through the invitation for drinks in Meaning in season 3 and there was never any real wrap-up to the ship. Cameron went on to Chase but we never got a sense of closure from Cameron or House and the lack of it diminishes Cameron's relationship with Chase. The idea that no woman ever gives up dreaming about House, not Stacy nor Cuddy nor apparently Cameron, does the show and the character of House a disservice. And for those who don't enjoy House's current gameplaying with Cuddy, the House/Cameron relationship suggests how it might have been with them if the show had decided to explore it. Not, I imagine, what Shore is going for if he wants to sell Huddy. I too like House and Cameron's interactions in seasons 4 and 5. I wish we had more of them to balance the dysfunctional ones of the other relationships.

She was pretty clueless about House because she was convinced he had feelings for her because he treated her badly a la Freud's ideology. From the pilot, we know that he is interested in her (the same he was interested in Chase/Foreman) and that he thought she was pretty. I think if you say something like that someone, it would be easy for them to get the wrong idea, and assume that you might hold them in some form of high esteem. Also, this was early on in their relationship, when Cameron was still extremely devoted and hero worshipping. I always though that Sports Medicine showed that House was comfortable around Cameron and that they could relax and just hang out with each other. It was really the only scene in Season 1 where things didn't seem weird and/or stilted bettween them. I think it says something that the only person that he had interactions like that with in Season 1, was Wilson. Again, if you put in context, it isn't hard to see why Cameron may have assumed that there was something else going on there. I always imagined that the "Do you like Me" scene in Control, was the culmination of Cameron staying up all night and cramming with "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and various other self help texts. I always saw it as a moment where she saying: "Look! I'm doing what you said! Do you respect me now?" Role Models I think is the key to all of this. House's reaction didn't make any sense, in my oppinon, and it really confused Cameron. Almost anyone else would react positively to such a 'falling on your sword' type of gesture but House is not a normal person. Again, I don't think he respected Cameron's devotion and respect for him and I think coming to terms with that was too painful for Cameron to accept. The idea that they were going to flirt (in their stilted way) but that House was also not really going to respect her loyalty caused Cameron to, once again, create this scenerio in her mind where House had 'feelings' for her. I think the whole thing was more complex than that. I think they both had positve and negative feelings for each other. I really saw the date as more of a realization from House that he really couldn't deal with that so he brought everything back down to reality. Cameron's behavior in Love Hurts was more telling than House's in my view. I think she viewed his coming to her apartment twice as an apology and possibly a harbinger that he might be open with her. It was almost disturbing, how giddy she was. Whe Wilson said 'You have to make sure you really want this' I always thought it was clear that Cameron did. In the end though, I think what we're seeing now is the fact that Cameron needs someone like Chase, who is more open with his feelings. H/C couldn't work, in my view, because neither of them were really ready to be completely vulnerable with someone else, especially not someone who really couldn't verbalize their feelings effectively. I also have to say that if House didn't have any feelings for Cameron, then the scene in Informed Consent was extemely creepy. Although, oddly enough, that works too. *I referenced the ship manifesto for some of this stuff, but I don't totally agree with everything there. I, for instance, don't really see H/C as a reality so much as competing scenerios that were formulated in both parties' heads.

Can you refresh my memory and say what the scene in Informed Consent was? Ps, that was an interesting read so thank =) I'm still trying to form my opinion on House/Cameron, sometimes I'm rooting for it, sometimes she annoys the heck out of me.

At the very end of the episode, after Cameron does the mercy killing, Cameron is alone in the hospital chapel crying and House comes in and sort of 'comforts' her. He says he's 'proud' of her, which I have some issues with but I get it. The thing is, he's rubbing her shoulder with his thumb and just as a gesture, if it was meant to be fatherly or mentorish, I would say it wa creepy but if he had some positive feelings for, it would kind of make since. You would probably have to watch it and make up your own mind about it, there are probably numerous ways to read that scene.

What struck me about that scene in Informed Consent was House wanted to comfort Cameron but had no idea how to do it. In the end, he squeezed her shoulder and told her what he wanted most to hear from his father "I'm proud of you". HL should be pushing for more House/Cameron scenes because they often bring out some really good acting on his part, a vulnerability and conflict that the new characters don't. I also like in that scene that Cameron didn't really react to House being there because she was into the situation, not into seeking approval from House. I think she viewed his coming to her apartment twice as an apology and possibly a harbinger that he might be open with her. It was almost disturbing, how giddy she was. In DNR, Cameron told Foreman that House would let him out of his contract because House would never admit that he needed anyone. So when House went to her apartment twice in Kids and asked her to quit her new job to come back to work for him, even agreeing to "a real date" it's not surprising that Cameron thought he had feelings for her. In an interview, JM explained that Cameron though that House liked her but his walls were too high to show it and she thought if she could get behind his defenses, he would open up to her. Of course, the show doesn't work like that but it's a not unreasonable assumption for Cameron to be making about season 1 House, who was a very different character than season 4 or 5 House. When Wilson said 'You have to make sure you really want this' I always thought it was clear that Cameron did. Wilson: It’s been a long time since he opened up to someone, and I… you better be absolutely sure you want this because if he opens up again and gets hurt, I don’t think there’s going to be a next time. Wilson was trying to warn Cameron that she may think she likes House and it will be okay but House is much more complicated and more vulnerable than she's aware of. Shocked, Cameron replied "You think I'm going to break his heart?" I don't think it had occurred to her before that she could hurt House and I think that gave her a confidence and caused her to push House during the dinner in a way she might not otherwise have done. Wilson was trying to help things along and ended up making things worse. as he does at other times too (lying to House about the Addison's patient in Meaning). One of my favourite scenes in the series is House trying to get dressed for the date and talking about decoder rings while Wilson lies on his couch and offers him dating advice. House's nervousness is sweet and Wilson's reaction to the corsage "I think she likes lame" just makes my heart melt. So much love there. I wonder where that show went.

Control was on USA tonight and I just have to say that they eye sex was really in effect wih H/C. The awkwardness really struck me on this viewing. I really wish they would have had sex one time.

Ariadne- 04-22-2009

I'd have been happy just to keep the eye sex keep going rather than have everyone except Chase act as if nothing had ever happened.
