Will Loki make the tribute reel? : Oscars 2009 Okay peeps, let's dish about the terrible dresses and long-winded speeches!
Namaste- 02-22-2009
<spoiler>Someone will wear something whacky. </spoiler>
Speculation: It'll be Mickey Rourke.
radiosweetheart- 02-22-2009
Seriously, if he doesn't, I'm done with the Oscars.
And I am rooting hardcore for Mickey Rourke. Mostly because The Wrestler is just about the only nominated movie that I've seen. And I really love Barfly. And sad sacks.
sautomne- 02-22-2009
LOL
I'm already cringing at the thought of his speech if he wins.
Though, I have to admit, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for him since Diner.
radiosweetheart- 02-22-2009
The cringe worthy speeches are always my favorite.* The crazier the better and can we get crazier than Mickey Rourke? No, no we cannot.
*Not including those really long ones where people thank everyone they've ever met. Come on! Take a note from Joe Pesci!

I, unfortunately, haven't seen a lot of movies this year but I hope that Kate finally wins.
I remember yelling at the screen when Renee Z. won her Oscar because her speech took forever and was boring as hell. Plus she shouldn't have won.
Put me down for Mickey as the weirdest dresser as well.
Housewhore4- 02-22-2009
I'm pulling for everything involving Slumdog Millionaire as well as Kate Winslet and Frank Langella.
I've seen a lot of the movies this year so I'm really invested in the awards this year. Only ones I haven't seen are The Reader, Milk, and The Wrestler.
Poeia- 02-22-2009
They're predicting low ratings because the box office was so mediocre this year -- not a lot of people care.
I'm anti Mickey Rourke. I was working at a fashion magazine when he was married to Carre Otis. And there were a couple of times when the fashion staff would come back from a photo shoot talking about how long it took because the make up people had to cover all her bruises. Maybe those were the only two times it happened but even if it was only twice, that's two times too often.

Not to defend spousal abuse in any way, but in the particular case where MR was arrested, CO was a junkie at the time and he was beating the crap out of her drug dealers and she ended up in the brawl. The charges were later dropped. I saw an interview with her talking about this several years ago. And yeah, if he was bouncing her off the walls on a regular basis, its not even vaguely cool.
Anyhow, I've always like his work since Diner as well and I'm rooting for him for Best Actor. I'm cheering for Michael Shannon because he lives in the neighborhood next to mine in Brooklyn but I know he won't win. That said Heath Ledger (who used to live in the Brooklyn 'hood on the other side of mine) is incredibly deserving. So a Brooklyn win works for me! :-) I'd love to see Melissa Leo snag Best Actress but Kate Winslet has been waiting so long.
Ugh. Is Barbara Walters really going to ask about The Jonas Brothers about their purity rings? Blech.
galaxygirl- 02-22-2009
I would love to see Mellisa Leo win as well, she's a great actress, but yeah Kate has been waiting for one for so long and she's also very deserving. I also would love to see Richard Jenkins win, another great actor.
And yes Wolfgang Joop, Heidi is looking ridiculously fat
fffaw- 02-22-2009
Wolfgang Joop can kiss my ass. What a dick for saying such a thing.
Taraji P. Henson looked lovely on the red carpet.
extra_cat- 02-22-2009
I haven't seen any of the nominees this year. There were a few I wanted to see, but never took the time, so I'm not invested at all. The dresses usually interest me just because I often wonder how anyone could leave the house wearing some of the things that get worn.
galaxygirl- 02-22-2009
Oh yeah, Taraji looked fantastic, she's such a pretty woman as well. Might be unpopular, but I loved her on Boston Legal as well.
Viola Davis looked great as well, so did the Indian girl (didn't catch her name, she was wearing a beautiful blue dress) from Slumdog,

I agree. I've loved Melissa Leo since Homicide. And I feel like I've been following Richard Jenkin's career since forever. He has roots in my home state of RI --used to be the director of Trinity Rep.

Purity rings are just ridiculous. I mean, sure, it worked for Britney Spears, but otherwise I don't think people should go on about it.
And the Jonas Bros should not be on an Oscar special.
