And of course, best would be HL playing either solo piano or guitar in a meditative mood or maybe piano in some late night jazz dive with a trio, say with a standup bass and alto sax; he's wearing the cool hat he wore with BFTV...maybe it's just a glimpse of his outside-the-hospital life like when he was in the OTB parlor.. and maybe that's where the PoTW starts: someone in the audience..wait, sorry this is turning into fanfic.
There are way too many fanfics out there with that premise. And usually he's secretly singing to Cameron or Cuddy. Even if I wanted to see it, the image would be tarnished by all of that.
I don't really want to hear House sing. And I kind of don't even want to see him play in public...not seriously, at least. Being five years old in his office is one thing, but I prefer House's solitary music and it's hard for me to picture him sitting at home, at his piano, singing whatever to himself. And it's really hard for me to picture him leaving the office one night only to find himself suddenly looking like Hugh Laurie on a stage in the front of a bar. I just think that would be a bit much. There's already enough Hugh in House and in spite of the fact that we know that in his younger years he played in bands I would just see House secretly playing in public as being more Hugh than House. It wouldn't feel right to me. I can hear Hugh sing elsewhere, so I pretty much don't need to see House do it.

Would also like to see some more roots blues or jazz
Or some Chicago blues. Koko Taylor, perhaps.

Point taken amysusanne. The singing to cuddy or cameron part =ewww! I don't read fanfics, so no. I agree with the Hugh/House insights as well, so suggestions withdrawn. (But then there must be more of Hugh playing with BFTV, at least as long as it's fun for them.)
Koko Taylor
Yes! By all means, and if they wanted go vintage, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band "Mellow Down Easy" would be lovely.

A little John Hiatt would be nice. (I *still* remember the Homicide montage set to "Native Son.")
I'd also love to hear some Martin Sexton - he even has a nifty folk-blues Christmas album with some cool arrangements.

I vote for some John Lee Hooker or Son House.
Even a little Richard Thompson would be nice. I always think of House when I hear '1952 Vincent Black Lightening'.
Is it wrong that certain songs make me think of fictional TV characters?
amysusanne- 09-30-2007
No, that is not wrong. That is very much not wrong. At this point, given that I'm pretty sure I've "seconded" a half dozen things you've said lately, that I'm just kissing your ass, but omg: I've had that same thought. I recently dug out some old mix tapes (mix *tapes*) and one of them was originals/covers and the first song on A was Thompson's version and the first song on B was Mary Lou Lord's version. I thought of House both times. I also tend to think of House whenever I hear Ben Folds Five's "Mess". And, no...it's not just House. I have cross media moments all the time with music and characters from books and television and what have you. I love it when it all merges into the same world.

Richard Thompson would be excellent. And yes(!!!!) to that song matchup. Also "Uninhabited Man" at times. But, oh yes, Richard Thompson. He even has a song about snooping through a significant other's stuff to size up her ex-boyfriends. He's clearly meant to have his music on this show.
I definitely do the song/character or song/show or song/pairing association thing. Lots of people must, or there would be no fanmixes, and they're quite popular. Okay, some folks make song choices I wouldn't, but I figure it's still the same process from a different point of view, and a different music library.
Although I suppose if we get too deeply into that conversation, it would be more of a Cafeteria sort of thing.

1952 Vincent Black Lightning would be a perfect soundtrack song. As would 'I Can't Wake Up to Save My Life.' I'm not sure when or where-but there could easily be a moment when that song tied the scene together.
One artist that I would like to see featured on House (or anywhere prominent) is Patty Griffin. 'Nobody's Cryin' could fit into some sountrack somewhere and I'd rather it was House so that I could enjoy it. As much as that song can be enjoyed. Damned depressing tune, really.

Heh.
And not that I think the music should necessarily be on the show, but I do admit to finding Ima Robot's Creeps Me Out some sort of twisted parallel to the House/Cameron dynamic: guy admits to being a complete jerk that some sweet thing has apparently taken a shine to. Nothing he can do will shake her and her "one true love" mentality until he admits that it creeps him out. (Though he awards points in her favor for cleaning up his place and not sleeping with his friends.)
Okay, I admit I have an irrational crush on the lead singer. :-)

Good thought, bailey. Sounds *exactly*like the House/Cameron dynamic, especially when she creeps in while he's asleep. Ew!
Mod edit for page shift.

For folks looking for the soundtrack, info via house_md, iTunes has reposted the soundtrack album including Minnie, as has Amazon Unbox (which has it DRM-free & the entire thing for $6.99)
nomad1328- 10-03-2007
and this is where I get annoyed with itunes (and Amazon too). Because all the tunes that are priced individually I already have.... and the ones I really want that I don't have will now cost me about 3X what I would have paid per song at the 99 cent rate. GRRRRR!!!!!!! Why did they pull Minnie the Moocher from the songs that you could purchase individually? Why why why? (rant finished).
saara_zaara- 10-03-2007
nomad, iTunes has a feature "buy the rest" or something its called - if you've already bought a track or two, you get that cost credited to the album price & then just download the tracks you don't have. Might want to check that out.
nomad1328- 10-03-2007
problem is that the I had most of the tracks on there before the album came out. So the "buy the rest" feature is nice- but only if you've actually bought tracks off of that particular album. And I don't think that buying one track and then using that feature will change the pricing at all. Oh well... Minnie the Moocher continues to tease me from my shopping cart where I put it last week... when it was an individual song. Thanks anyway... :)

Is there a reason why TBTB have to keep choosing songs for House that I can't download legally or otherwise?
