Yes, House definitely cares. I have always believed it was not just about the puzzle. I'm not talking about House's motives. I'm talking about the DOM's motives.
Maybe the new DOM will be someone arrogant/confident enough to think they can reign House or control him, so to speak. Maybe it will be a person who wants the challenge. Again, I just keep thinking about what if the time comes when House does something crazy, that would lead to the dismissal of anyone else. Why would the admin or board protect him? He no longer has the safety net that Cuddy provided.
So, what will House do when he returns to PPTH? The dynamics will have changed.
I hope it does. I can see him with a lot of possible DOMs. Someone like Nolan, or like Cate, might be able to 'get him'. Nolan might be able to control him, good enough, probably even better than Cuddy.
The new DOM will need this "Nolan-Qualities".
I hope they can pull this off, because if they manage that, I’m holding my breath for a whole number of new episodes to come.

Do you think House will need to be institutionalized agian? Or at least have court appointed therapy sessions? That act in the finale seemed dangerously destructive, and he really needs help.
I rather think he'll serve time. They can't do a whole season of it, so they might be the show doing a time jump to connect ends of his jail time. I do hope they show at least a taste of it, to make it feel real (other than with Hadley, who came out of jail with a great haircut and a clean leather jacket two sizes too small), and I do hope he’ll do some therapy afterwards, but more off screen than not. <== end spoiler

After reading around the threads, I have no idea where to post this, but it cracks me up: the fact that half the cast look like veterans from Scooby-Doo (Charlyne Yi/Velma, Taub/Scrappy, etc.) is traveling like wildfire around the interwebs. And it really cracks me up.

So, by making both Taub's girls named Sophie now, I wonder if they are setting us up for an episode based on Sophie's Choice somehow. Following through with the parental theme, maybe it would be something where they both inherit a genetic disorder and Taub can only save one. Or maybe that is a bad fanfic idea and the writers would be shot if they suggested it. I hope the latter. Just a wacky speculation, folks.
Sophie's Choice did occur to me but I can't imagine that it would be that horrible a choice (and not only because the show isn't Taub MD).
