Iowa City is great! I really miss Whitey's ice cream. And the Indian restaurant, Masala. And that other restaurant, Allegro. galaxygirl, I feel your pain. I really like fics where House cooks. I can't imagine he wouldn't be good at it, if he tried. He just doesn't bother most of the time.

God I miss Iowa City. A phrase one doesn't see too often. I've was told that most places won't deliver to my street because it's too dangerous. Gives me a warm feeling down in the cockles. Pizza doesn't bother me too much in stories-maybe that's because when I think don't want to cook, don't want to go out I think pizza. Anything can be bought and brought home. I think there's a gourmet slow food joint in my 'hood that delivers (not to my house, obviously). Why are there no stories where Wilson orders roast leg of lamb and arugula salad with goat's cheese and tiramisu for dessert and he and House wash it all down with a glass of Pinot Noir? It could happen.

Next up on my list: foodie fic. It will be the erotica of the takeout genre. And I will blame it all on radiosweetheart.

God I miss Iowa City. God, I love living in Iowa City :-) And getting back (sort of) to the music topic, does anyone else get annoyed when fics describe House as wearing band t-shirts? The shirts he wears on the show are *not* band t-shirts.

Why are there no stories where Wilson orders roast leg of lamb and arugula salad with goat's cheese and tiramisu for dessert and he and House wash it all down with a glass of Pinot Noir? Doesn't travel well! Fic Wilson, on the other hand, would cook this himself for them both ;D (& see Corgigirl's recent fic on the rec thread, Cat's Pee on a Gooseberry Bush, IIRC). The shirts he wears on the show are *not* band t-shirts. Very true. I wish I had more info on what they were in many instances. Maybe writers just decide to assume they are band t-shirts because its an easy route to take?

& see Corgigirl's recent fic on the rec thread, Cat's Pee on a Gooseberry Bush, IIRC). That's Mer Duff's story, actually.

saara_zaara- 09-07-2007

Woops, apologies to all, hopefully I at least got the title right.

Corgigirl- 09-07-2007

I wrote one in which Wilson turns up with lamb rogan josh ("Cease Not 'til Death") and in "More than Blood," the Wilson-delivered meal is roast chicken, German potato salad and chocolate pudding. (I must have been hungry when I wrote that scene.) No take-out meals in any recent stories, though.

lovelythings- 09-07-2007

Speaking of things like being hungry while you write, how many of your personal kinks (food, music, fashion, whatever) do you manage to work into your stories? Do you try to keep yourself out completely? Do you work around canon? I have Wilson cooking sometimes because I like to cook; the fact that it meshes nicely into canon!foodie!Wilson pleases me. How many of your kinks has canon indulged? Incidental things, I'm talking about, like House playing a piece of music you love on the show or in the fic. Things that wouldn't drag the story OOC. Wilson eating mozzarella sticks. Chase buying a new sweatervest in your favorite colors. ENB doing just about anything. Eos, you are lucky! And radiosweetheart, you are cracking me up!

Roga- 09-07-2007

Do you try to keep yourself out completely? I should, I really really should, but I can't help myself. Off the top of my head, my presence in my stories: -Characters referencing TV shows I watch (namely Chase) -Characters quoting musicals I like - and I try to have it make sense, I really do. Other than that, small things, like... Chase obsessing over Tim Tams, which is totally me, or Wilson and Cuddy's attitudes towards religion, which kind of channel me again. On occasion, I have characters fall in love with planes, though thankfully that hasn't happened in House fandom. Yet. Sadly, canon has not been very indulging to my kinks. But I have hopes - someday, we may yet discover that Chase is a fan of Scrubs and knows the lyrics to the musical episode by heart.

But could you acknowledge that other writers with different shipping leanings might actually be just as talented as the authors you adore? I never diss writers or artists. However, I won't be reading something that the very thought of it's inspiration and or realization gives me physical pain, just to "give it a chance". I don't read for the sake of reading, I read what I feel the need to, what fascinates me and makes me happy. And as we should all respect the different ships and kinks, we should also respect people's squicks. They are often just as strong. And about Wilson's village people knowledge - I'm sure it was a shout-out to the BGW trusters 8)

One of the things I like to do, lovelythings, is have House perform procedures that I learned how to do in my EMR course from a few years ago: for instance, intubating a patient. It makes me feel good to know I'm getting at least part of the medicine right, it's something that really happens, and it's something that I enjoy as well.
