One thing that's a definite turn off for me is titles/summaries with misspellings. I don't even try the first chapter on those stories.

I know I've seen lots of H/W & H/Cuddy kidfic (I adore Church) & ran away very quickly from H/Cameron kids, but is there's any Chase/Cameron kidfic?
(I've seen a lot of "Cameron is pregnant", but them raising actual kids? I know there's no Ch/F kidfic - chortles! Hey, another challenge!)

She knew that she didn’t believe in God, but this was always a last resort. She folded her hands and bowed her head. “Please, let him live. I don’t know what life would be without him.”
Now that sort of summary scares me. It screams screaming, rushing and wild over emoting.

Here's one I run, hide and cover my eyes from -
Right from the moment Dr. House hired Dr. Cameron, he knew something about her got under his skin. For some reason, he couldn't escape the chemistry he felt for her. Only Dr. Cameron knows why their eyes seem magnetic... HouseCameron
The words House & Cameron in close proximity scare the life out of me.

Same here misanthropicobs.

Oh, the horror *shudders*
galaxygirl- 08-10-2007
Same for me misanthropicobs, it's a good thing I rarely run into House/Cameron fics *massive body shudder*

The only way I can read a H/Cam fic is on MST. Even so I avoid it like the plague. It gave me nightmares!

Hello everybody! *waves*
found my way here via sheep... :-)
My most beloved pet peeve are bad spelling mistakes or typos. I especially hate missing ' in words like aren't, won't etc.
I also agree to the Jimmy/James/Greg issue
And I avoid any HAM like the plague

Thanks for the compliment, Jouse!
The cliches really don't bother me.
Once I asked Nightdog (Hi, Nightdog!) about the cliches and she said that pretty much all the stories had already been told, it's how the writer chose to tell the story that makes the difference. It's true.
If they are IC, there aren't too many mistakes and the plot it's interesting enough, the story will be good.
I'm not a writer, but I'm a very good reader (or so I hope!), so this point of view maybe won't be accurate. But works for me...
I agree - I only read romantic or erotic fics, and lots of PWPs, so I'm not as familiar with the whole spectrum. But I don't dismiss a fic because the plot's a bit cliched. I know these have been done to death but there's still some good fics about House and Wilson on Christmas Eve, House and Wilson doing each other an erotic 'favor', or getting some action on House's sofa, or Wilson massaging House, or the two of them in a steamroom, on their shared balcony ... and how many "missing scenes" from the episodes have been written again and again? Good writers can still make these stories compelling.
I guess if I have a peeve about the erotic House/Wilson stories (I mean, aside from bad writing), it's when the writer just kinda throws the two of them together for sex and doesn't go into even a little of the emotional aspects - the affection they have for each other, or the first-time experience. I mean, if they've been friends for 17+ years and suddenly their relationship takes a sexual turn, that's a big event. Granted, it's hard to write this, but still, one must try. I don't like when writers, particularly the younger, inexperienced ones, just throw House and Wilson together as if they are some sort of sex toys for the writer's personal amusement without any inner lives of their own. It is difficult to make them three-dimensional, but one advantage is that the episodes give us plenty of background information and we can assume the readers have a certain knowledge of the characters. So while I'm all for smut and PWPs, I don't like when there's no affection between the characters and nothing more than mechanical descriptions of sex. I mean, we have to assume that House and Wilson like each other, and that if they want to become intimate, it's based on affection and not just lust (I mean, aside from the darker fics which I avoid, being a vanilla sort of person with a distinct romantic/fluffy streak)

Top Ten Reasons I Won't Read Your Fanfic
Any pairing preferences aside, here are the Top Ten Red Flags which, when I see them in a summary, make me run far and fast:
10. "I suck at summeries."
9. "Plz r&r."
8. "NO FLAMES!"
7. Gregg
6. Allison
5. secret/long-lost child/niece/nephew/hamster (okay, maybe if it was a hamster I'd read it)
4. "{insert Mary Sue name here} gives House a run for his money."
3. Vicodan, viccodin, vicodun ...
2. "Pregnant."
And the Number One Reason I Won't Read Your Fanfic is ...
1. Mpreg.
deelaundry- 08-10-2007
don't go using the most exotic name in the baby book.
What's the most exotic you've seen? I've only seen a few kid fics, I recall David, Church, and a couple of daughters, both with Cuddy - Io was one, which is pretty unusual, & maybe Isabelle (from perspi recently) ?
KayGreg! House and transgendered!Wilson's biological daughter (Wilson had changed his name to KayLee, so I guess KayLee + Greg = KayGreg)
perspicacious- 08-10-2007
Oh, Mare, that makes me want to write a fic that will let me hit as many of those in my summary as possible. *snerk*
galaxygirl- 08-10-2007
Actually I have read MPreg, and enjoyed some of them(Buffy!verse and X-files!verse) but there is no way I ever read a House!verse MPreg. I don't like the use of first names, but I can overcome that. Misspelling names(Gregg) is hit back space button immediately material. I generally hate Mary Sues with a passion.
Lully- 08-10-2007
I'll read the long lost hamster in a heartbeat! :D
