I think one reason that it's so fascinating to hurt Wilson (or anybody, really) is that it's a way to force the other characters to show how much they care. Hurting Wilson especially is a way to prod House into showing that he cares about Wilson, which is something a lot of us want to see. We KNOW he cares about Wilson, but sometimes the show doesn't really give us that.
And sometimes I like to hurt Wilson because with what he's been through in canon, he should be having a breakdown or something. Which is why I wrote The Longest Weekend.
I, for one, would REALLY like to read That Time Wilson Was Exploded Whilst Setting Off Fireworks Outside of House's Apartment.

I just read a great take on the killing off Wilson thing. He gets crushed by a snack machine while fetching chips for House. Crack, inspired by the Ovine One on ficrants complaining of how often Wilson gets killed in a car crash (i.e. a little creativity please people!)

House and Cameron were virgins the first time they slept together.
I got milk in my nose over that one! Do you have the link, Poeia?
That must have been one crappy sex scene. Virginal sex usually is. Especially with two noobs!
It wasn't explicit, thank goodness. My LJ account is also Poeia -- there are only half a dozen entries. (I only signed up so I could leave comments.)
The fic was a one-shot in 3 parts. Part 1 introduces Ethan the Eye. Part 2 Ethan is a teen. Part 3 remembering their falling in love.
Oh, and House learned to believe in God as a result of Cameron's love (despite the fact that she is also an athiest)
If you want the rotten fic without my snark, I can PM you the link tonight.

I have hardly complaints regarding H/W!smut, there's so much good writing and creativity in this fandom and ship, that I can excuse some repetitive cliches.
My problem is with OOCness. It throws me out of the heat of fantasy right into the cold cynical POV of an outsider, and I hate that. It's like some writers just ignore the characteristics and focus on the physique alone. They're more than 2 sexy looking chaps, they have personalities and taking them into account on all their messiness and layers, if done well, can make the sex scenes much more interesting.
Examples - you've said them all. James/Greg, I love you's thrown around like it's a soap opera. I also go crazy when House in fic turns to a completely different person, the snark is gone and he's treating Wilson like he's his (Wilson's) groupie. That's probably projection of the writer getting in the way of the character there.
Besides that -and that's just me- angst in sex scenes (and in slash in general) freaks me out. I have enough angst of my own thank you very much :)
* House's leg bucking in the middle of the f***ing - OUCH.. why?? :(
* Wilson trying to top House for the first time and is all angsty and unsure and is hurt when House mocks him- my stomach turns just thinking about it
* Bad!Sex - I know they're a lot of fans out there and that's cool ;) It just gives me the cringe. Sex doesn't have to be bad to be realistic, and first sex can be great if you focus on the tension breaking, the new intimacy, curiosity and reactions rather than the moves and acrobatics.

Oh, Dee... You're going to kill him in a realistic car accident, aren't you?
I don't have problems with Hurt!Distress!Dying!Wilson! I want House to show some concern, too. It's the repetition and the lack of originality that makes me wonder... I find the breakdown scenario much more likely to happen, but there are just a few of these fics.
And the show itself already used some cliches - the shooting, the abuse - so I think it's quite possible that a car/motorcycle accident will happen in the near future before we can watch any character have a breakdown.

I completely agree with this, just to enlarge on it (at the risk of being too obvious) - they are both DOCTORS, after all, and therefore any kind of sick!hurt!Wilson or House opens up the possibility of the other looking after them.
When I wrote my House-and-Wilson-meet fic, I had them meet by House knocking Wilson over with his motorbike (sorry) precisely because I wanted a situation where there was immediately a reason for them to get physically close & even touch. So there was an excuse for House to run his hands up and down Wilson's arms and legs... for Wilson to be close enough to smell the sweat and the biker's leathers... ooh, excuse me, I thought I was in the HoYay thread for a minute there.

All this talk about Hurt!Wilson makes me wonder if Plaindog knows about this forum.
And the revelation that both House and Cameron were virgins the first time they slept together.WHAT!?!!! I need to read this fic so that I can experience the horror firsthand.

hwshipper - I loved your fic (: Did you take the idea of them meeting when House ran over Wilson from the fake scripts?

I know - what exactly were House & Stacy doing in bed together then? LOL

And don't forget that Cameron was married and she slept with Chase.
Anyway, she didn't come right out and say they were virgins. She said:
He was, for the first time in his life, scared when they first kissed. House could never forget the feeling when his lips met hers. She was so soft that he wondered whether he had died and gone to heaven.
Of course that was not what happened when they first made love. And yes he would never believe it, that he, Gregory House, had made love to a woman. It was awkward and unpleasant for the both of them. It was a good thing that the large amount of alcohol they had poured into their bodies that night had made the evening a slight blur. But the next couple of months they had tried so hard to make up for that first night, and a year later there they were, sleeping in the same bed with a golden wedding ring on their ring finger.
That was the point at which I decided it was the worst fanfic in history.

And yes he would never believe it, that he, Gregory House, had made love to a woman.
Would that be because he'd only been banging Wilson for years or that Stacy was in fact a tranny?
That fan fic is just...wrong. Oh please please give us the link!
Dee, it causes me great distress that you've been
researching realistic ways for Wilson to die.
Savemoony called me on the cliche when I was writing Function, so I had to go find out its prevalence <*numbers nerd*>. Huge, eh? In the fic, I switched it to "hit by a car while changing a tire" which interestingly enough, counts as death by MVA.

Oh, dare I admit how many of those cliches I'm guilty of? I have used not only 'leaking,' but also guilty of 'Jimmy' as well as vast amounts of seminal output. I've taken them OOC just cause I wanted to. I understand how these things might be deal-breakers for some readers; I have a few of those myself (words like "penis," "pre-come", "glans"; verbs like "mewled" or "keened".) I also don't read dark or angsty fan-fiction, I only like erotic or romantic slash. I hit the Back button more often than I finish reading the slash fics I find on the Web. I think it's harder to ignore bad style in sex scenes. I can forgive a few awkward phrases, and there's one story I love that contains "pre-come," another that uses "Greg and Jimmy," and a few other transgressions that are nonetheless good stories, in my opinion. But I find most of poorly-written fanfics just amount to bad writing and/or unwillingness to do the editing, which is at least as much work as the writing. I think the younger writers over at the Pit don't quite realize that writing is a craft and you must put some work into it to get a decent result. Obviously, older writers have more practice writing and the output is usually a higher quality. Older people tend to be more patient, more willing to edit carefully and allow as much time between first draft and posting as the fic needs to be well-crafted piece of writing. In my experience, it usually takes a dozen or more read-throughs. As awful as some of the writing is, I think most of the worst offenders are just teens, based on the sex scenes I've read, their sexual inexperience is kinda obvious... but still, the worse sins are poorly-crafted writing: bad grammar, careless word choice, inattention to style, and lack of editing. I was also guilty of these errors when I was a teen, so I can't be too hard on the kids, though some of the writing is so godawful it makes me cringe.
