Thanks Chipmunk_love. Taking notes on the eps is a good idea. I'm usually too busy paying attention to House and Wilson to take in Chase's mannerisms.
Yeah, extra_cat, I tend to agree about the aggressiveness. The only Chase/Wilson fic (with Chase inititating) I have read had him manhandling and intimidating Wilson and it just didn’t seem very in character to me. But that being said, I’m not sure how Chase would pursue his former boss’s best friend.

I would imagine little meaningful gestures because "Not Stolen" flowers was one of the sweetest, most romantic things I've ever seen on TV. I also, personally, found picking a random day like Tuesday to remind someone that your available to be a romantic gesture. I think Chase's pursuit of Cameron was supposed to bring to mind Lord Peter Wimsey.

I definitely enjoyed Chase's subtle gestures of courtship towards Cameron. The "It's Tuesday," was so soft and gentle that it was actually more powerful than anything I've seen on TV yet. And it was just two words.

I say be proud of your fic. To me all fic is good fic and bad fic is good because you can MST it - and then it becomes better!
I never judge a story or the writer by any other criteria but 'do I like it'.
But I'm a Captain Jack sort of guy: I'll dance with anyone.

In the Q&A thread, Ariadne posted some text she says is from a draft of the House pilot, written by David Shore.
And through this mess comes a 38 year old man, JAMES WILSON. He carries himself with the confidence of one blessed with the power to heal (he also carries a file). His usual purposeful stride has been slowed somewhat so that the man beside him can keep pace. GREG HOUSE, also 38, brilliant but scarred, wields the truth like a sword - and isn't afraid to cut you. He walks with a cane and pain (the latter he hides, the former he wishes he could). He speaks and thinks quickly - and doesn't wait for others to catch up. Wilson is his best friend, his only friend - though you'd be hard pressed to describe even this relationship as friendly.
   If I saw that on ff.net, I'd be hard-pressed not to MST it. Particularly this sentence: "He carries himself with the confidence of one blessed with the power to heal (he also carries a file)."
There is hope for every writer! :D

Go on dee, do it anyway!
It's the 'he also carries a file' aside that really gets me.

Has anyone ever thought about taking one of the scriots and MSTing it?

I could see Msting 2x23 with finger snapping House or 3x1 with the mysterious growing thigh muscle. You could do one from Tritter, but his complete creepiness can only been shown and not read on the script. It might be fun to try a script.

Oh Lord - that is atrocious. He's a healer with a file (and presumably a filing cabinet). No wonder this show is so easy to poke fun at.
Thanks for that. It made my day.

Those awful stilted scenes of Foreman with his new cloned team in NY played pretty much like a MST to start with ;D

Question...so what do you do if you've been planning on writing a fic forever, have it mapped out (shared the idea with betas), etc. and then all of a sudden it seems every fanfic author is writing about the same topic? Do you write it anyway? Do you not? Do you hope yours is unique enough to warrant being written or do you worry the other authors will think you're copying them?
hwshipper- 08-19-2008
travlncarrie I'd just go right ahead and write what you intended. There's only so many ideas in the world, it's how they're executed that's important.
And anyway canon gets more like fanfic every day...
extra_cat- 08-19-2008
Write it anyway. If it were me, I might stay away from fics on the same topic so you wouldn't be influenced by someone else's story.
Chipmunk_love- 08-19-2008
I think I know what you're talking about, and yes, keep writing it. You've come so far and worked so hard, and your level of research and preparation will show through. I agree with extra_cat to stay away from the other fics to keep yourself pure, just like TPTB have to when it comes to writing the show. You're putting such a unique angle on the "plot-bunny" that everyone who reads it is just going to be absolutely amazed. And anyone who tells you that it's just like the other stories obviously won't be reading closely enough!
extra_cat- 08-19-2008
I actually find that I'm less productive when I have a story completely mapped out. It's almost like if *I* know where it's going, I get bored with it or something. I work better when I have a vague idea and let it flow naturally which I know goes against what people say you should do when you write. Is anyone else like that? Or are you all very professional writers who know every twist and turn ahead of time?
