Well, you were right...now figure out how it happened since they'd never even met before."
They met during "Journey's End." Mickey left the Tardis with Jack and Martha
That strongly implied -- to me at least -- that the two of them would end up replacing Tosh and Owen on the Torchwood team. Of course then on the next episodes of "Torchwood," Children of Earth, it's just Gwen, Ianto and Jack, and Gwen says something to Jack about not bothering Martha because she's on "her honeymoon. Of course they never said who she was honeymooning with, it was just assumed that it was the fiancee we'd never met.

We met Tom-he was the doctor who died helping her during Last of the Time Lords. She tracked him down after time was reversed.
Right?
All this timey-wimey stuff is a little hard to get a grip on.
LightMyCandle- 01-03-2010
She told the Doctor that she was engaged to Tom, so as far as we knew that was that and when Gwen mentioned she was on her honeymoon, I assumed it was with Tom. But, I guess it could have been with Mickey and it just didn't work out with Tom. Or she did marry Tom and they later divorced. We don't know what year it was during the Martha/Mickey scene, right? It could have been a few years in the future. I'm not against the pairing, I just wish it hadn't come so completely out of nowhere.

Sort of a cross between speculation and spoiler as to the Weeping Angel/that woman ... first of all I wonder if the weeping angels we saw in "Blink" are fallen Time Lords. It's obviously highly implied here that they're going to be time locked by the Time Lord president/Rassilon -- so perhaps that's been a punishment for Time Lords previously? And it would make it much more clear why in "Blink" it was imperative that they not get their hands on the TARDIS. Also, I'm hoping that we may find out more about who that particular angel was because I understand Moffat has said that there will be more dealing with the weeping angels coming up. Hmmm.
And completely unconnected, but I like me some bad ass Mickey Smith. It's been great seeing his transition from the original "Mickey the Idiot" who was terrified and clinging onto Rose's legs in the first episode to the guy who dares to follow the Doctor into the unknown, then commit to the new Cybermen infected world to protect his "grandmother" and finally return as the new and better Mickey here.

Preview of the next series of Doctor Who from BBC. Spoilers, obviously. (I'm hoping BBCAmerica will be running episodes fairly quickly after the BBC, otherwise, I'll just have to seek out alternatives.)

RTD says he purposely didn't say who Martha was on her honeymoon with when it was mentioned on Torchwood. The doc was her rebound guy: she never married him.
Will watch the new series more to see what Moffett comes up with than anything else. I'm afraid Tennant set the bar quite high for anyone else, at least in my mind. He so beautifully got to the heart of who the Doctor is in all his multiple facets and was so thoroughly entertaining and heartfelt.
Smith seems fine though and I'm sure the stories will be good. With all this buildup established, I hope bbcamerica steps up to offer us deluxe Dr Who service. ;-)

Is it heresy around here to say that I still prefer Christopher Eccleston? That that Tennant wasn't good, but I think he built on what CE did in the first place. If Nine wasn't so "fantastic" to begin with, that would have died.
But I'm with you in seeing what Moffat comes up with. He's written some of the best Who scripts of all time -- The EmptyChild/The Doctor Dances (for my money the best ever) Blink, The Girl In The Fireplace, Silence In The Library ...
For me, that's the equivalent of how H/W shippers might feel if Doris Egan taking over the running of "House."

I was a hardcore CE girl and it took me a long time to get used to DT, but I truly love him now. They each brought such different things to the role. I'm definitely looking forward to what SM brings to the table. I just have to get past MS's jaw. I'm sure I'll grow to love that too. :-)

The thing that puts CE over DT for me is that DT tended to be a little too manic at times. Eccleston had the joy of traveling and sheer joy of "The Doctor Dances" and such, but there always seemed to be the weight of his history behind those moments. DT had the weight and the joy, but not always at the same time. Maybe it was because CE's doctor was closer to the Time Wars or maybe it was because CE's acting style isn't the same energy as DT's, but it worked for me just a little bit better.

I do prefer DT, as you know, but I think this is a valid point that you've made. I've always wondered, though, if David's approach to Ten wasn't somehow based on Nine's advice to Rose: Have a good life. Do that for me, Rose. Have a fantastic life.
Once Rose came back for the Doctor and saved the day, I think Ten, "blessed" with this manic personality as he was, really decided to let go as much as he could and have his own fantastic life, and he really did. That being said, such an obvious shift in the Doctor's tone never would have been possible without CE's brilliant Nine.

In case anyone is interested, David Tennant has written a most heartwarming foreword to the Specials dvd box set (courtesy of LJ user anglchck6661).

I loved Eccleston's approach and he had some fabulous scripts, awesome was Nine. But apparently they knew from the start he'd only have one series, so I think they wrote his character to be a contrast to the upcoming one. And of course, I love Tennant and his gorgeous, quicksilver Ten. I think Ten was closer to the heart of who the Doctor is in my mind, and even so, it took me a little longer to be won over by his style. I thought he was kind of lightweight and cartoony at first, but then DT and the scripts got to some heavier places to go as well, and I started to see how he danced through the scripts where CE marched. Love 'em both and by the time DT was exiting, I really got what he had done with that part. It was so moving and powerful and sweet and scary. In retrospect, that was a golden age for DW, which I very much hope will be continued, though I expect more sci fi classics than heartfelt stories at this point.
That foreword is utterly sweet, Chippers. I think DT is so fabulous in interviews and all the chat and quiz show appearances, he won my heart even more. He's so fun and quick and delightful. I hope Rex turns out to be good: I can't say I'm excited about the concept.
I don't know what kind of doctor Moffat has in mind for Eleven, but him firing a gun and punching someone are so un-Doctorish, I'm a bit on guard. Not too excited about Smith, but that may change.
LightMyCandle- 01-09-2010
IMO, Moffat has written some of the best episodes, so I'm pretty optimistic about him taking over.
I prefer DT's energy to CE. I like them both, but I'll take Ten over Nine. He can go over the top, but most of the time it worked for me, YMMV. I did think that Nine and Rose made a better team than Ten and Rose.

I think you said it really well - that's just how I feel. Well, I liked Tennant better, but I also liked Christopher Eccleston, too. But I really I adored Tennant as the Doctor and it's hard to imagine how it could be the same without him. I'm also totally biased because I think David Tennant is quite sexy whereas Matt Smith is kind of... well, odd looking. I don't mean just average-looking. Something about his hairline and jaw and enormous forehead is just rather strange and sort of hard to look at. However I haven't seen him act except in the few seconds of the last episode, so it's not really fair to judge him simply because he's not a stunner like DT.
Moffat has written some of my all-time favorite episodes so I do have high hopes for the writing, at least, but I'm certainly going to miss David Tennant.
