Daleks: Taste the rainbow of fruit flavors!
Dude, in that last scene where they were leaning against the Tardis, I totally thought they were going to make out.
I KNOW. I've read interview with both the actors and Moffat who swear that there won't be any romance between the Doctor and Amy. But there's quite a bit of tension. Maybe the characters aren't meant to have it but the actors sure do. Also, that thing in the middle of the Tardis...is it an engine...a flux capacitor? What ever. The thing that goes up and down. Do you think TPTB meant for it to look like a sex toy?

I'm hoping next week will be wonderful. Surely with the weeping angels back and River Song, it will be awesome. The third one had some good bits but didn't hang together at all for me. The pacing was weird and the candy coated daleks didnt' work at all for me. The spitfire fight in outer space: was there some explanation for how that was possible? It seemed like a great idea but made zero sense and wasn't really very well directed. The pacing seems all over the place.
I've read how they especially had that glass Tardis thing specially blown to be cool (no pun intended) but it's sort of too small for the space and not so impressive. I realize it's early days still, but for me, the second was a little less compelling than the first and this one way less compelling. Compared to Nine's WWII stories or the one where he met the lone Dalek, this one didn't evoke the threat from the Daleks they were stating.
I dunno, maybe it's just going to be more of a regular lightweight kids' tv show and I need to get used to it. Ah well.

I read somewhere that a lot was cut out of this episode -- maybe a number of scenes that would have drawn the story together better.
There's something up with Amy. Aside from the fact that she doesn't remember the Dalek invasion from Journey's End, this is the second week in a row where she's had "the big save." Quite impressive for a new companion, no? Now, either this version of the Doctor isn't as clever as his tweed and bow tie would make him out to be or she's more special than the average companion (and not just because she's the only human companion who's known him since childhood). I wonder if the tear in the universe that she lived with for so long and that still seems to be following them around has somehow heightened her intellectual capabilities. I'm not saying that without the tear she would be a blithering, dull idiot -- far from it -- but I think somehow they must be connected.

Well, this might have been better as a two-parter. There were a lot of themes that barely got mentioned much less developed and there was no time to build up to or feel the big moments.
Agree on Amy. Yeah, that would be a bit better because right now she seems way more tuned in than the Doctor and way more certain of herself in these weird situations. I wonder if they will turn out to be co-Doctors or something. He seems kind of dull in comparison. Maybe the crack in the universe is related to the rift in Torchwood.

Well if they didn't, then they failed.
Have you seen how Matt Smith talks about Karen Gillan in the DW Confidentials? He has a total crush on her. Well, who wouldn't?
But yeah, the two of them have some crazy chemistry. That whole Tardis leaning part was eyesexing to the max. Oy.

I think TPTB need to exercise a more judicious usage of the Daleks if they want them to be scary. I know that it is the concept of the Daleks that is meant to make the pepper pots with plungers seem frightening. And for me it really worked best in the Eccleston episode. He played it so real. And it was the fear that I saw in his eyes that chilled me, not the actual Dalek.
In this episode the only time I felt any threat was when Eleven first saw the Dalek. Matt Smith has great eyes and I could sense the disbelief and panic that the Doctor felt. The rest of the episode was entertaining but not as good as I expected.
I came into this season unsure about the new Doctor and Companion, but completely psyched about Moffat. Now I've been won over by Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, but I'm less sure about Moffat.

This is Whoniverse, rather than Doctor Who the show precisely, but I'll link here info on an upcoming guest on the Sarah Jane Adventures that should warm the cockles of old Who fans' hearts.
Spoiler warnings in the link and starting here: The return of Jo! Yay! and scene.

Just saw the first part of the Weeping Angels returning. They're still cool, but again this episode didn't hang together for me. I'm beginning to suspect that the superb Tennant was such a galvanizing presence, he just kept things moving and lively and entertaining even when the scripts were lesser. I was always engaged with the stories and have rewatched them many times.
Smith is good, but he follows two powerhouse actors (Eccleston and Tennant) and he's just not in their league imho. The ideas are good, but the stories all seem to refer back to Moffat's earlier episodes. The dead guys talking was like the dead guys in The Silence in the Library who kept going for a bit. And River Song was fun, Alex Kingston totally rocked, but the Doctor and Amy didn't seem like people that would be ahead of her in any way. They seemed like clueless kids. That would be ok if it all worked its way round to making sense, but it sort of doesn't for me. And I want it to. I want to love Smith, but I'm not there yet. Maybe things will fall into place in part two. How do you folks feel?

I finally got around to watching it. I'm enjoying the new crew thus far.
What I really need to know is how the hell did River Song walk around in those shoes? Especially in the rubble!

She was carrying her shoes whilst walking in the rubble

If the Doctor won't marry River Song, I will.
Overall, I loved this episode and was totally gutted when it ended on cliffhanger. Good work there, making me forget time and all that. Amy got on my nerves a bit with the petulant school girl act at the beginning, but she became more tolerable by the end. I loved the winking-to-keep-from-blinking thing, though. (Whenever I watch an episode like "Blink," I always find myself trying not to blink. The winking is the only way I can get through it.)
I have seen a bit of a trend this series of resurrecting old Moffat story devices -- Weeping Angels, River Song, Doctor meeting girl throughout her life (Amy/"The Girl in the Fireplace"), dead consciences communicating doom ("Silence in the Library"/"The Time of Angels"), etc. By and large, I've been okay with it this early in Moffat's first series, but I hope he trends toward even more original by, say, June.

Oh hey, so this week's DW. That last scene is probably making fandom's head seriously explode. It was pretty hilarious actually but I can imagine the uproar.

And if you get the chance to watch the Confidential for this one, do so. Matt's obviously smitten with Karen.
Oh, by the by, has anyone else noticed the picture of Billie Piper on Amy's wall?

I was laughing about the Confidential - he's like a little boy pulling her pigtails. He's in full on crush mode. It's adorable.
I didn't notice the picture of Billie Piper! That's hilarious. I'll have to watch again.

So, Vampires in Venice. Rory cracked me up tonight. He was much funnier than I anticipated. It was interesting that that the cracks/silence are becoming more prevalent.
