I think Matt Smith is much more attractive when he's onscreen than in pictures. I'm really enjoying him as the Doctor so far. I wasn't sure about Amy last week, but I am this week. She was excellent.

I am enjoying him too. I absolutely loved Amy in this episode. Karen Gillan is knocking it out of the park. I loved the ending, but I'm sure if may get some people shrieky because they have such good chemistry.

but I'm sure if may get some people shrieky because they have such good chemistry. People? Getting shrieky? On the Internet? Because of chemi -- cough, shipping, cough -- stry?

OMG! They hugged at the end of the episode. That means they'll have sex next week!

Chipmunk_love- 04-11-2010

I, too, am enjoying Amy, though I think her speech at the climax in which she showed how well she knew the Doctor would have sat better with me had it come later in the series, after we as an audience got to see how well she got to know the Doctor. However, given how much she was learning about him in this episode and the fact that she had to figure everything out, I guess it'll do, and I'll learn soon to love the scene. That means they'll have sex next week! Moffat!! *shakes fist* :)

I think the new show is fine, but it will take a while for them to earn my real interest. The last ep didn't quite hold together for me. Maybe I didn't get it. So little Timmy at the beginning: what did he fail? why was he a bad boy? Did he fall onto the tongue and get eaten? I love the idea of a star whale kindly taking this weird island through the sky, but I felt like Amy out-thinking the Doctor was weird, even a little 13-ish? I liked the idea of the girl knowing of the Doctor from her childhood, but I liked it better in the Girl in the Fireplace, which sort of appears in both the first eps here. But I really don't have a problem with that since DW recycles ideas often. It's just the the SM-penned TGITF really held together well and was an awesome episode. Was it the acting, the writing or just the magic combination being there or not? Having Amy be almost a co-Doctor so quickly really doesn't sit well with me esp. if they keep going that way. (If you saw the confidential after the ep, it's a lot about how great Amy is, again, 13-ish, event hough I do quite like her, don't like anything that's pushed so hard). But still, it's entertaining, give them some time and all that. I'll be watching it unfold but so far not with anywhere near the zeal I used to have. RE: teh sex? Please no. Please. Tantalize yes, but don't cross the line. ETA: Oh and Liz X was brilliant. Loved the accent change over the decades.

Did he fall onto the tongue and get eaten? No, because he shows up at the end and they say that the StarWhale won't eat the kids. No doubt about it, there were some big plot holes in there. As for Amy being a 13, I don't see it that way. She's grown up having to be tough - a Scots girl in England, parentless, aunt seems kinda absent and she tells everyone about the doctor and no one believes her. But she sticks to that story her whole life. It seems like she's grown up to be a very strong and idiosyncratic girl. People have spent her whole life telling her that she's wrong, but she knows her own mind. It stands to reason that Doctor or no, she'd carry on with that sort of behavior. I like her alot.

Boffle- 04-11-2010

I do like her, the 13-ish bit for me is that she's at the center of the show so soon. For some reason that bugs me a bit. Maybe they should have just made her the Doctor. Actually that would have been cool.

fffaw- 04-11-2010

She'd make an ass kicking Doctor. For me, the show is very much about the Doctor being seen through the Companion's eyes. It's not a one person show, they're a team. I appreciate a more front and center Companion as opposed to someone following the Doctor around helplessly as some in the past have. Amy is very kick ass and take names.

LightMyCandle- 04-11-2010

the 13-ish bit for me is that she's at the center of the show so soon. That doesn't bother me because it's pretty much a two character show. For me, it's about both of them. I think the companion should be at the center with the Doctor. I guess the reason I really loved her this episode is because in the premiere, I didn't feel like her personality was defined all that well. I feel like I have a better handle on who she is this time around and so far I'm really liking who she is.

Boffle- 04-11-2010

I dunno. I don't quite see it that way. For me the Doctor is the big draw and the companions are drawn into his world for a while but they can never really stay because they don't fit for the long term. Being a kick ass companion is great but it's the Doctor character that will either keep or lose my interest. If he's overshadowed by an aggressive, more talented companion, that diminishes his role and, in the end, my interest. I dunno. Maybe they can make it work. Will try to keep an open mind. :-)

fffaw- 04-12-2010

It's early days - I think that in seeing more of what Amy's made of, the Doctor will rise to the challenge. I can't ever see him being overshadowed. I think even though the companions are transient, what they bring to the table shows us new facets of the Doctor character and so we end up knowing more about him from the company he keeps. I'm so glad you're willing to keep an open mind on this! So many people are putting their foot down without giving the show a chance. It's a big change: new Doctor, new Companion, new showrunner. It's going to take awhile to flesh it out and find a rhythm. I think the first two episodes are a good indication that it's going to be just fine.

Dude, in that last scene where they were leaning against the Tardis, I totally thought they were going to make out. The Doctor was very snappy early on - yelling at Amy (two weeks running!) and bashing on the Daleks. Interesting. Speaking of, candy colored Daleks!

Chipmunk_love- 04-18-2010

Speaking of, candy colored Daleks! I like to think of them as Power Ranger Daleks. :)

fffaw- 04-18-2010

LOL! That's perfect!
