A sex change doesn't change your bone structure, HtR. Hermaphrodite, hmm? What was that Billy Crystal joke about 'The Crying Game': "Those eyes, those thighs, surprise!".

SaphronGirl- 11-03-2007

Olivia Wilde does have a pretty strong jawline for a woman, however, her frame is very petite. On the other hand, I know men who are just as slender as she is... but the shoulders would be a real problem. If TPTB were going in this direction, I doubt they would be that meticulous about casting, though...

MaryIsobel- 11-03-2007

But I think it's a gender neutral name here in the U.S. The trend seems to me to be that at this point, any name is acceptable for a girl but if too many girls get called by a certain name it drops out of favor for boys (the old "tom-boys are fine but no one loves a sissy" thing). Interesting about Elliot: I know a girl (woman) named Elliot who is about 25 so it's not a totally new thing, I guess, and she and her parents came from Malawi...if that makes any difference.... I'm pretty much stumped as to a plasuible explanation of 13's mystery. If I could muster up enough interest to care, I would suggest we take bets and whoever turns out closest to right wins.

Silja- 11-03-2007

If TPTB were going in this direction, I doubt they would be that meticulous about casting, though... If TPTB were going in this direction, they'd probably say 'screw basic biology' and hire a pretty girl to play into their fantasies...oh crap. Personally, I think she was fired or left her last position because she made a mistake that killed a patient and couldn't (cue violins) live with what she'd done.

Namaste- 11-03-2007

I'd go with the idea that they actually cast age appropriate for once and that Thirteen/Hadley is a child prodigy who skipped at least a couple of years of school at some point and is continually afraid of somehow betraying that "genius" label that she's been saddled with. She doesn't want others to know her name because she'll then be "outed" with her real identity, and this has been the first time that she's been able to just be a part of a group.

March301- 11-03-2007

Personally, I think she was fired or left her last position because she made a mistake that killed a patient and couldn't (cue violins) live with what she'd done. Yeah. Her reaction says one of two things to me: a. It's her first time making a mistake like that; or b. It's happened before, and the story does not put her in a good light. They keep coming back to the fact that she killed a patient. This has to be important.

That would at least be an interesting turn for House to realize that after all that, he had actually really misjudged her and hired the wrong person because she evidently is the kind of doctor to make the same mistake twice.

extra_cat- 11-03-2007

Wouldn't it be funny (and perfectly in line with this disappointing season) if 13's "big" secret was just her name? This far in and the audience doesn't know her name... maybe there's nothing earthshattering about her secret at all! Maybe it's the obvious thing she's keeping a secret. I mean, it's not as if knowing Chase or Cameron's names meant they were without their secrets (seminary, alcoholic mother, PDH). As shallowly developed as the Numbers are, something as simple as a name would be a very appropriate attempt at a "big secret."

Boffle- 11-03-2007

Or perhaps she's not a real doctor either and she's terribly afraid of being found out. (And by the way Silja that cricket bat really hurt! ;-p though in retrospect I did probably deserve it) Even as lite as this season is so far, just the name doesn't seem enough, especially when they just revelaed it to us and it doesn't mean anything, unless perhaps it's an anagram...let's see: Remy Hadley=Ye HL Dreamy Hey, Dry Male Ha! My Dry Eel and My Yee-Ha Dr.

Taiga- 11-03-2007

Hey, Dry Male. Good one. Namaste's theory is interesting but House would have seen her real name on her application when he hired her, and for some reason I think he has a keen interest in child prodigies  Maybe we'll find out that she's the only survivor of a famous family massacre or she's related to a famous serial killer. I for one am hoping that there's not some tragic backstory for her. We have enough tragic backstories on this show, and it makes her too Mary Sueish.

MaryIsobel- 11-03-2007

My Yee-Ha Dr. Hmmm. Well, we know House thinks she is incredibly hot.... Ride 'em coyboy! You know what? I don't care what 13's big secret is. I want her to just. go. away. I dunno...how is this so new? It just seems like the same-ole-same-ole with a (slightly) different face. We never really learned Cameron's big secret (why/how she became "damaged") either. How is Cut-throat Bitch (with a dash of Big Love) all that different from Foreman? Isn't 6/9 an antsy-er, darker version of Chase? Plastic surgeon is the only one who isn't a retread of the old ducklings...and really how much potential does he have once you've explored what made him want to leave his cushy plastics practice for a "new" career at this point in his life? Does just changing their faces, ethnicities and genders really change things that much? Phhht.

Taiga- 11-03-2007

I see Hadley as Cameron 2.0, which is why I don't like her. I like Cameron, but detest HAM and what's the point of duplicating a duckling anyway? it's boring. IMHO the others aren't like the original recipe duckings, however (shrug). It's occurred to me that Remy is the latest in a line of female characters having male names: Andie, Alex, Max, now Remy.

MaryIsobel- 11-03-2007

It's occurred to me that Remy is the latest in a line of female characters having male names: Andie, Alex, Max, now Remy. Not mention...ahem...Cameron...and there are also some men named Stacy...

misere- 11-03-2007

Not mention...ahem...Cameron...and there are also some men named Stacy. Except that all the examples given were first names, and Cameron is the character's last name. Allison is her first name.

MaryIsobel- 11-03-2007

Darn. I always forget that!
