That blows but I think I really need to see Mad Men now.

It's definitely worth a rental - it starts slow but then picks up. He's wonderful in it. (eta: I was referring to Breaking Bad). I can't even watch a commercial for The Mentalist - I have to turn the channel - that's how bad it is for me. I just want to punch that grin off his face. I know, I know, irrational. Everyone else in that category is top notch - just so hard to choose. The ceremony only went 3 minutes over! That's got to be a record.

Well this year was a wash. I figured after Jim, Neil and Taking Chance and Generation Kill lost it wasn't going to be a good night for me. I was right. On the other hand the Giants are leading again so that's good.

Didn't even bother to watch. Can't take any more disappointments. The window of opportunity was over with S3. Was S2 the year they had some new nominating system and Hugh wasn't nominated? That was probably his best shot at it. Well, at least he has 2 SAG awards.

Can I fucking stab 30 Rock? I know it's physically impossible to take anger out on a TV show, but I need to harm something and they seem like a decent and sensible target. Ugh, what a shitty, shitty day (for multiple reasons, but Hugh not winning yet again takes the cake  )

Well, at least he has 2 SAG awards. He's also got two Television Critics of America and two Golden Globes (plus a bunch of minor ones.) But it still blows. At least we've got a new season in... about 20 hours and 3 minutes. (Not that I'm watching the clock or anything.)

Thank God for that, all this shitty Emmy retardness I almost forgot about the premiere! How dare I!

After seeing tomorrow's premiere, one critic (can't remember who) said recently that if Hugh didn't win this year, which he deserved, then next year was a lock. When the fourth season ended with House's Head and Wilson's Heart, I believe there was discussion about whether they could be considered two parts of a single episode. If I remember correctly, the fact that they had different writers and different titles made that impossible. The two together would have been a much stronger entry for Hugh than just House's Head. I think the same reasoning applies to this past season. The "whole" of UMS and BSN together is much greater than the sum of its individual parts. Since Broken has only one title and one set of writers, even though it counts as two episodes, it may qualify as an entry. And if it is as good as everyone says it is, there's hope as we "wait 'til next year." To say nothing of what else the season may bring. No matter how angry and disappointed I am tonight, I refuse to give up hope that Hugh will someday get his Emmy.

That was Sepinwall. He said he almost hoped Hugh didn't win this year because he is a lock next year. If I remember correctly, the Emmy rule also requires the two hours to be shown together on their first airing.

It didn't occur to me before, but maybe this was part of the thinking behind the decisions about how to do the premiere.

Neil Patrick Harris got a good review from NBC New York for his emceeing. It was very odd reading. Each time they said "Harris did x" I thought "who are they talking about. I'm so used to seeing him referred to as NPH. I'd probably feel the same if an article about RSL kept talking about "Leonard."
