I loved Remember WENN. And, yeah, whenever people talk about MM, BB, etc. being the first original shows from AMC, I think "what about Remember WENN?" To the point where I was seriously beginning to question whether I was remembering wrong and it was actually on TCM... Anyway, don't think anyone has mentioned David Morse was nominated for his role in John Adams. That was the only name that jumped out at me while scanning through the list. Oh, Cynthia Nixon I think got a guest actress nom. The news reports I've made it through so far have focused mainly on history making Mad Men/Damages. I doubt Hugh/House will get a lot of attention, as they're neither surprising new nominees or terribly bad choices taking away a spot from someone more deserving.

I don't think I even made it that far. It was a couple of hours after the nominations were posted that I even realized that the "Extras" special got noms. Must be weird to be "reliably good" and therefore not worthy of being shouted about or shouted at. Who said it in another thread (maybe you? bailey? somebody else entirely?) that Hugh's consistantly good performances being what makes him invisible sometimes.

I also really enjoyed Remember WENN. Maybe the new series are like, the series created for AMC, the channel that now shows really bad movies right along with the good. I dunno. The acting nominations made me happy, although I was a little bummed not to see any for Mary McDonnell and Edward James Olmos for Battlestar Galactica. On the other hand, I wasn't surprised by that since the Academy almost never notices good sci-fi, and I was glad to see the show get a writing nomination in addition to the whiz-bang award noms. (Curiously, that episode actually had more interesting developments for the cylon characters than the humans. Huh.)

Who said it in another thread (maybe you? bailey? somebody else entirely?) that Hugh's consistantly good performances being what makes him invisible sometimes. Well, if it wasn't me, it totally sounds like the sort of brilliant wisdom I'd toss off casually. But, sadly, I think at this point in the game it may be true for Hugh. It's taken for granted how consistently excellent he is with great scripts or not-so-great scripts. The fact that his job is so technically more difficult than others passes without comment. I'd say he's almost into Martin Sheen territory, but even Martin Sheen had the luxury of playing the president or something like it several times before TWW.

It was me. There must be something in the Seattle water :) I was thinking earlier today, I could imagine Hugh playing any of the characters played by the lead actor nominees. But I can't imagine any of the other lead actor nominees, with the possibly exception of Bryan Cranston, playing House - let alone all 6 characters. Hugh's best bet for a win might be if there's a pretty even split of the vote. I worry that if BC and GB got in, their tapes both must have ranked really high in the panels, unless their shows have unusually high viewership in LA or they're just both really popular actors. This is a category though where a 6-way tie might be the most fair result!

And all is well in the world. Critics are bitching about the omission of their precious Friday Night Lights. On EW they go as far as saying that "Even on a slow week it does better numbers than, say, Dexter" completely overlooking that FNL is on NBC while Dexter is a Cable show. Oh and of course the annual 'James Spader sucks and doesn't deserve to be nominated' spiel. It's getting old, sigh. At least Matt Roush can't be bitching about JS too much because he *gasp* actually liked the episode JS submitted.

The Emmys Have Spoken: Five Reality Hosts to Host This year's Emmys have a new category — Outstanding Reality Host — and all five of its inaugural nominees will serve as cohosts of the kudoscast. Tom Bergeron (Dancing with the Stars), Howie Mandel (Deal or No Deal), Heidi Klum (Project Runway) and Jeff Probst (Survivor) will join Ryan Seacrest (American Idol), last year's theater-in-the-round ringmaster, in overseeing the proceedings when ABC broadcasts the ceremony on Sept. 21. tvguide.com I'm not sure what to think about this...

I just wish that Cat Deeley had been nominated in that category. She's the sweetest, most genuine person on television, IMO, and she makes SYTYCD a pleasure to watch despite the insufferable judges.

EW agrees with you, misere. They had a little box in the TV section this week about how awesome she is and what a slight it was to ignore her. I'm honestly not sure that I care about this round robin hosting plan. Sounds to me like it will include even less hosting schtick than last year and, hopefully, no monologue. I could see them giving one of them the kind of material they gave Ryan last year, but I don't see them spreading that out among multiples and even though it seems questionable to have all five of them as the stars of the show, I at least appreciate the whole "we're having hosts host it" sentiment. Fingers crossed for a Conanesque opening sketch or something along those lines and, if they feel the need to pad things out, funny people doing funny things with the hosts just keeping the show running. Back to an older topic: the whole "Mad Men is the first AMC show ever" fib. The Jo(h)ns were on "The View" this week and Whoopi pointed out that AMC had done "the radio show" and Slattery replied back with something to the effect of "Remember Wenn...good show". So, they're aware that they aren't the first original show to air on the network which leads me to believe that it really is just a matter of money and semantics.

Neil Patrick Harris! Neil Patrick Harris! Neil.Patrick.Harris. Yay! Yeah, pretty much. And yay, the prospect of seeing him in a tuxedo. If he wins and sings his acceptance speech I'll actually watch. *g*

If he wins and sings his acceptance speech I'll actually watch. *g* Yeah, squee! I'm on a big Neil Patrick Harris kick after seeing Dr. Horrible. So, yay! It was fun watching him with Kristen Chenoweth when they announced everything. Really glad to see the noms for Pushing Daisies as well (directing - comedy, lead actor - comedy, supporting actress - comedy, writing - comedy). That was a show that I wish didn't have to see the writer's strike. And so many of the actors have roots in Broadway that it made it even more fun to watch.

Does anyone else have a feeling that this, conceivably interesting idea, could just go way way wrong at the Emmys? Seems more useful to use actual TV clips than to have other actors saying the lines, utterly out of context.

Seems more useful to use actual TV clips than to have other actors saying the lines, utterly out of context. Well, it would only work if it was only Hugh, standing at a podium, and randomly picking a line to speak when they're coming back from commercial. And if they need a second person, use Stephen. Then, and only then, would it be utterly amazing.
