House hated his father, the abusive jerk who belittled him and punished him in cruel ways. Then, one day, while he was in severe need of a vicodin, Chase confronted him with an idea -- an idea that meant Chase was right and House was wrong. That would never do. He belitted Chase, but Chase persisted. He shot down his theories, but Chase would not wilt and run away. The little Aussie kept swarming around like a fly, demanding attention, going so far as to touch him. Blinded by rage, House lashed out and punched the nuisance. There was Chase, on the floor, still prattling on about the medicine. There was House, looking at the young man on the floor, looking at his own fist, hearing himself for the first time. He looked back to Chase and saw himself at his father's feet. He had become his father. The only way to rectify this situation was to make amends. He had a plan, but he needed Wilson. See, Chase had had a lousy father. But he had had a lousy mother too. So, the only way this would work was.... well, you'll see. House and Wilson officially adopted Chase in May. Not that I'm not interested in Chase's faith, but between Damned If You Do, House vs. God and Forever, we've had more subplots on that than on any fellow-issue (other than Foreman not wanting to be House and Cammie's lurve for House (and may both of those subplots RIP.))
