For me, oufti FNL falls into the category of shows which I appreciate, which I can see the craft and skill, which I know is excellent, and yet ... I just don't care about it. I have no emotional connection to it or the characters -- no matter how well drawn and acted those characters are. When I watch it, I think: That's a great show ... but then I turn it off and really don't care.
So it's not that I like dreck, it's not that I fail to see the art in it. It just ... has no resonance for me, personally. So I find other things to do.
While I try to resist the urge to say, "I agree!" as others have said what I thought so much better than I could, I must in this case because Namaste described my feelings exactly regarding FNL.

You desciption is totally how I feel except that I had this connection with the characters. Matt Saracen is my favourite but I love every character on this show (it's totally not the case with a lot of other shows) because for me they sound real and the actors are very good (what is not the case in other shows either). So I feel connected and then I care.
That's like whiplash for some audience members
That's funny because I really liked this jumps in the time. I had no problem with the fact that we didn't see what exactly happened between Matt and Julie, between Tim and his brothers ...
I agree that this season was kind of "disconnected". That some characters were in the background most of the time and that some storyline were not very well handeled. But when it totally pissed me off the way the writers don't know what to do with Chase & Cameron; I know that in FNL, those characters (Matt or Jason by example) will have their moment to shine. Because I have "faith" in the writting when I didn't at all for other shows.
I agree that the directing is part of why I'm hook up. Usually I don't like when the "screen moves", it's weird since I totally love it in FNL.
I agree with the buzz some people are making around Connie Britton. But in the same time, Katherine Heigl won something.... and I think she's an awful actress. What's great in FNL, is all these young actors who are really good Gaius Charles, Zach Gilford, Aimee Teegarden... remember those names.
At least, I'm happy to read that nobody said it was an awful show. Even if you don't watch religiously, it's nice to here people said they like it even if you don't realy watch it.
I'm sorry to sound so obsessed with it. It's just that this year sounds the end of a lot of shows I particularly like... The Wire, BSG, The shields.. they've cancelled Journeyman, Traveler and now probably FNL... and House is, well... so that's a lot.

I was really sorry to see "Journeyman" get cancelled. The show was much better, much less predictable than I thought it would be so I didn't get into it until late in to its run. I think it suffered from a bad title and a poor publicity. It was a show that I think could have developed into something good.

PBS is showing an outstanding version of "Pride and Prejudice" with Colin Firth as the Definitive Darcy tonight on Masterpiece Theatre!
Catch it if you can.
It's brilliant!

I'm really relieved to find that NBC renewed "Life" today. I had thought it was fairly safe when it ended it's run, but recently I started to get the idea it was on shaky ground. They've given it another shot, though. So, yay. :-)
NightOwl- 02-13-2008
I'm so happy that Life is coming back! I love Damian Lewis! The last episode was CRAZY. I wonder if it's still on-line. I need to watch it again, because I didn't completely understand everything that went on.
Taiga- 02-18-2008
I saw the pilot for Dexter last night, I guess the local network has picked it up. So what's the rest of the season like? Better, worse?
NightOwl- 02-18-2008
Taiga, are they showing it unedited?
I haven't seen it, but I'm considering renting the DVD.

How would I know? I'm not being sarcastic.
NightOwl- 02-18-2008
 I don't know, but surely it is edited. I can't imagine watching a show like that on a regular network. Maybe Dexter isn't as explicit as Sopranos or Sex and the City, but... but... knowing the subject matter, I'm sure it must be. When those shows were shown on channels other than HBO, they were heavily edited and bleeped (or dubbed? I can't remember). I can't stand that.
I just saw on imdb that it's airing on CBS in the U.S., rated TV-MA. Hmmm. Still think I'll rent the DVD instead.
Taiga- 02-18-2008
I didn't notice any bleeping or dubbing, and was surprised when they showed close-ups of a murdered body. It was like CSI.
arizonamyrie- 02-18-2008
I'm not Taiga, but I heard that CBS and Showtime worked together to recreate an edited version fit for network consumption.
And I watched it this morning online, and even though I don't have the original to compare it to, it's really good. It kept my attention, and I find the character intriguing. I did wee a bit of the unedited pilot ep, and saw/heard a few things that were cut, but it was hard to tell if you didn't already see the show.

Better. It took me about 3 episodes to fully get into Dexter. Do stick with it. It gets way more fascinating as the story unravels.
Namaste- 02-19-2008
I come here to make a confession: Until now -- and now only due to Masterpiece Theater and the writer's strike with its induced lack of new stuff on the air --I'd never seen the "Pride & Prejudice" miniseries. Now I'm enjoying it, but *whispers* I still don't find Darcy all that hot.
Do I need to turn in my chick license?
NightOwl- 02-19-2008
Is this Colin Firth?
I can't get into him either. He's not unattractive. I just don't find him particularly appealing.
But then, Hugh sets the bar pretty high. (And Damian too.)
