OMG, OMG, OMG Those who read spoilers probably already know this, but since I'm trying really hard to stay spoiler free...lost spoiler---> Michael is coming back this season, just saw his name in the cast list over at TV guide. I wonder how they are going to tie him in. Maybe in the flash forwards that we'll be seeing...<--- Only 11 days to go!!! I'm really dense. What show are you talking about?

galaxygirl- 01-20-2008

Sorry, forgot to capitalize the L in Lost.

warycary- 01-21-2008

I am SO eager for the series to resume! In addition to what you mention, GG ---->small Lost spoiler -->Christian Shepherd is also listed, though whether in a flash back, or flash forward (like the one in last season's finale) I don't know. But I always enjoy the tension between Jack and his dad... Since the number of future seasons is now set, and the podcasts, etc., indicate that they have done careful planning, I'm expecting some deliciously tight plots and solid continuity along with the requisite weirdness. Great TV dropping like rain on the strike drought! ::WOOT!::

Lost spoiler talk---->Since we're supposed to think that Christian Shepard is dead, I'd say it's for a flashback, however, I do know that we won't get a Jackback/flashforward in the 8 episodes this season. <----end Lost spoilery talk Interesting information, makes me even more bouncy lol.

For those who haven't yet seen "Mad Men" set your DVRs for Sunday into Monday midnights. They're rerunning the entire first season in order. You know, I've seen each episode three or four times but it's a wonderful show to watch again to catch all the nuances. January Jones as Betty especially stands out on rewatching - she's heartbreaking. Take for example the scene at :45 here where Betty is talking to her best friend Francine (Anne Dudek, aka CTB). "And as far as I'm concerned as long as men look at me that way I'm earning my keep. Then every once in awhile I think...no. This is something else. I don't want my husband to see this."

Sad News. Christopher Allport who played Andrew Campbell in "Mad Men" was killed in one of the avalanches at Wrightwood in California in the last day or so.

For some reason, his death reminded me of Kevin Smith's untimely passing from a fall in China. This was Kevin Smith , the actor, who played Ares in Hercules and Xena. He was quite talented. Father of three boys, his wife is going to auction his Ares costume on Ebay to raise money.

We're talking a lot about dead these days. Good news (at least for me): There will be a season 3 for Brotherhood !!! I haven't watched all episodes of season 2 but this show is really great... if you like dark and sometimes violent show of course. Beside, I've seen FNL episode 14 promo!! I can't wait for this episode to air. We will have some Matt/Tim drunk scenes and above all Matt/Coach Taylor huge fight!!! can't wait for this :D :D :D I will be totally busy with my job this week but at least... FNL will be a huge gift at the end :D

Bad omen for Friday Night Lights? Radar prints a Q&A with Ben Silverman that doesn't seem so great for the show that critics love but the public doesn't watch. (I include myself in that demographic. I'm sure it's great, but I never manage to tune in. After I finish catching up on "The Wire" I may move on to FNL.) Either that or Silverman really loves "30 Rock".

oufti- 02-02-2008

This interview really piss me off. That's just crap! FNL is beter than anything on tv right now (The wire is out of competition for me  )... and yes, I include House in this list. This show is just amazing and I feel really frustrated because nobody really seems to care when there is so much buzz around crap like Grey's anatomy, CSI or even House! Sorry guys, but even as a House fan (at least I was last season) , for me, those show aren't able to hold a candle to FNL. FNL is full of greatness (the actors, the scripts, the directing,...) and when it seems like they loosing it a litle (but are still the best thing on screen lately) they did a fabulous episode like the last one. The first season, was perfect from beginning to end and this season (a little less good) bright again during the last episode. There is no other show that succeed in making me feel so sad and angry and happy in the same tim. For me, this show is clearly the best ... so it is obvious it's going to be cancelled. Crap.

See, for me oufti, and I say this with complete respect, a show about high school football just doesn't sound appealing. I can watch football on ESPN whenever I like, or on Fox, and tomorrow is the SuperBowl. And living near Green Bay, we're saturated with that phrase whether we like it or not: football. While I have heard and agree that the show is extremely high quality, the subject just doesn't appeal. Had TPTB been able to market it without the label of "high school football," it would have been more appealing for more of us. But I hear that label and just am not interested, especially since high school football in general never interested me, and when it had to, it was solely professional (former high/middle school band teacher).

oufti- 02-02-2008

a show about high school football just doesn't sound appealing. I can totally related to this. I mean, I gave this show a chance about month after the first season ended. I'm european and totally not found of sport and didn't even know anything about your football (because, you know here our football is your soccer). The first time I thought it was another One tree hill :thumb down: , just it wasn't basket ball but football. But it's not that at all. Yes, sometimes football (maybe often during the first episodes) is the center of the show... but it's wrong to say it's about an "high school football". FNL is about people living in a small town in Texas where football means a lot. The sport is just a purpose to tell these people's lives. It's just the link between all the characters. By example, this season, there were barely any game or even training. Last season, it was more about young people, who's lives aren't always nice, trying to grow up after a traumatic event. It was about a coach and his familly beginning to love a communauty and trying their best to help them... I don't live in Texas but this show seem so accurate when it's about middle american class. I just feel frustrated. It's unfair that good shows are wasted when the bigger ones are just full of crap and doesn't even care about their fans (and yes I'm talking about House too). FNL is like quality meat... it's expensive and hard to cook but that's just pure pleasure, when factory-produced chicken is the norm because it's cheaper and easier to cook... but is just tasteless. Sorry to seem bitter... because I'm bitter

Namaste- 02-02-2008

For me, oufti FNL falls into the category of shows which I appreciate, which I can see the craft and skill, which I know is excellent, and yet ... I just don't care about it. I have no emotional connection to it or the characters -- no matter how well drawn and acted those characters are. When I watch it, I think: That's a great show ... but then I turn it off and really don't care. So it's not that I like dreck, it's not that I fail to see the art in it. It just ... has no resonance for me, personally. So I find other things to do.

misere- 02-02-2008

I love FNL, but I can understand why it doesn't appeal to a larger demographic. I even think that critics sometimes go overboard with the praise, especially for the writing. IMO, the production of FNL far outstrips the writing. I honestly don't know think that I'd be watching without the cinematography, location shooting, soundtrack, and the phenomenal group of young actors. The first time I thought it was another One tree hill, just it wasn't basket ball but football. But it's not that at all. I don't know if that's the case. I've often thought that without the above factors, FNL could very well be a marginally better, football-based OTH. There are some huge problems with how they write race and racism-based plots. The lack of interaction between the female teenagers is also an issue for me. One or two episodes in which their scenes aren't all with the football players or adults just doesn't cut it. The over-the-top critical adoration of Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton bothers me a bit too. I don't think either of them deserved Best lead actor/actress nominations at the Emmys or the Globes. They have supporting roles, and I'm actually more impressed by the supporting work of at least three other actors on the show. As much as I love it (and own it), FNL just isn't the type of show that I can watch over and again either. The overall storyline the first season was far more cohesive than House's, for example, but I've watched House's third season a lot more since the finale. Part of the reason for that cohesion is that the writers had a built-in, real-life format to follow. The football season was the backdrop, and the playoffs and "state" were the end goal, no matter whether the team won or lost. Once the second season premiered, the weakness of the format was revealed. They had to jump ahead 8/9 months to the next football season, forcing the audience to intuit much of the character development. That's like whiplash for some audience members.
