Can someone tell me why "Life" has been shelved to 10:00pm on Friday nights and still expected to pull decent ratings? I'm really bummed at the likely prospect of this show getting canceled. I thought the most recent episode was great--an inspired dramatization of the Stanford Prison Experiment gone awry. Or, rather, gone even further awry. Forgive me, but my dear old dad was a professor of sociology and criminology and I feel like I've had a lifetime of references to this study, so I particularly enjoyed that it popped up on a show that I admire. (Regardless of how unlikely such a project would get green-lit given the lessons of the antecedent.) I thought it tied in very nicely with Charlie's own prison experiences and the places he must have gone to in his mind to survive 12 years in there for a crime he didn't commit. I'm going to be very disappointed if this show does, indeed, get canned. It deserves a better timeslot, at the very least.

bailey, I totally agree. I'm really nervous about this show's status. It's not pulling in the best ratings, and I think it has to do with the crappy time slot and the lack of promotion. This is the only show besides House that I watch each episode more than once. I love it so much. Monday at 10:00 would be far better than Friday at 10, wouldn't it? A 9:00 slot would probably be even better, right? I want it to continue. I really don't LOVE that many tv shows, but I love to watch tv. I love Damian almost as much as I love Hugh, and I need both of them on my tv each week. Yes, that's right. I said "need."

I said "need." Heh. Well, I'll just say that it's a damned thrill and privilege to have them both on our screens on such a regular basis at the same time. Still, though, I think this show could be doing much better in a 9pm time slot. I'll be the first to raise my hand and say that I've never actually watched this show as it airs due to the timeslot. I'm probably outting myself as being lame, but everytime I've tried to watch it while it airs, I end up falling asleep because, frankly, my job utterly exhausts me during the week and being cogent and watching television at that hour just doesn't work for me. (But I'm not so lame that I'm at home at 10pm on Friday night watching TV, either.) I've strictly been an online viewer. An hour earlier on a weeknight would make a world of difference for me and, I suspect alot of other people as well. It could also stand being paired with an equally strong lead-in show or block of shows, something which has eluded it since it's first run last season.

They were always moving it to Friday in one of those (almost always ill advised) attempts to use a "special night" to bring viewers from the night they know it to the night they don't. But, Friday? With not a single show to compliment it? The bright side is that they can't cancel *everything*. I mean, I guess they could, but since all but maybe two of the new shows (counting the returning new shows from last year) are in the toilet, I guess there's hope for "Life". Now if there could be hope for "Chuck" and "Pushing Daisies" and "Eli Stone"...

(Haven't seen "Eli Stone" so I have no opinion. Actually, I've never seen "Chuck" either, but just no others who appear to like it.)

Are there any other network shows besides Numb3rs that are doing well on Friday nights? Numb3rs is the only Friday show I watch, so I'm a bit curious about any other shows doing well.

"Pushing Daisies" is on ABC. NBC has "Life" and "Chuck." Oh right. Duh. Again, I pretty much never turn my television on. Strictly an online viewer. I don't even know what those number things are for on the remote control. :-)

Ghost Whisperer, also on CBS. I swear Nielsen families' TVs only have CBS :) I would also like to see Life on at 9pm. Even though I don't have to get up early and usually am not asleep by 11, I never seem to feel like starting something at 10.

amysusanne- 10-12-2008

Oh, stop bragging. {g} I don't wish ill will towards other shows, especially those of which I haven't even seen, but the new Christian Slater vehicle looks really tedious. If it dies a quick death, they really need to shift "Life" back to Mondays. It's not as if it was blowing the doors off the place there, but it was better than the Friday Death Slot.

Thanks :) We watch a lot of those crime shows on CBS(I watch Cold Case and Numb3rs, he watches The Unit and CSI: Miami and together we watch the other 2 CSI's, NCIS, Without a Trace and Criminal Minds).

Can a person volunteer to be a Nielsen family? I'd love to give my favorite shows a push!

Can a person volunteer to be a Nielsen family? I'd love to give my favorite shows a push! My family was a Nielsen family a few years back. I have no idea how we fell into it, just happened to fill out their little forms during May sweeps in, I guess, 2006. What year did Will & Grace end? Because it was that season. Wait... I just checked it out. Nielsen chooses you, you don't choose Nielsen.

NightOwl- 10-12-2008

Hmmmm.... how can I get Nielsen to choose me? *twirling my evil mustache... if I had one... if I were a man...*

Poeia- 10-12-2008

They buy lists of people in different demographic groups and randomly contact from there. Nielsen selects on only three demos so it's fairly easy -- gender, age and geography (although I wouldn't be surprised if they also used income to make sure they get a representative sample across the board, even if they don't publish those results.) Because it's random, some odd invitations are issued. The best one was when Nielsen invited an upscale, empty nest couple in Scarsdale to participate. The husband explained that he probably shouldn't be included as his name was Lawrence Tisch and he owned CBS at the time.
