I loathe him as well, LMC. I mean, let's look at his dating choices (and I'm spoiling this for those who haven't watched all 5 seasons):
SPOILER
1. Girlfriend who leaves him for a fellow cheerleader (played by Sophia Bush!), then he ends up stealing Sophia Bush from her!
2. Woman old enough to be his mother who turns out to be a transsexual
3. White supremacist chick
4. The porn star/Scientologist/methhead who has slept with both his dads
5. Victim of suicide bomber who is his counselor (she was cool and the only one to put the brakes on when he decided he was in love and was going to convert to Judaism. She dumped him)
6. His biological sister (although unknowingly)
Wait, does the Christian chick who he and his stoned friend mowed down and put in a coma count as someone he dated? He didn't really date her but they were hanging around alot.
SPOILER
He's an idiot.
This show invented the phrase "Over the Top" and that's what makes it so enjoyable.

He's an idiot.
And if you'll allow me to get shallow for a moment, from the moment I saw him, I was wondering wtf was up with his eyebrows.
fffaw- 02-22-2008
He and RSL should have an eyebrow-off. :-)
sautomne- 02-22-2008
Sharon Gless???? Sharon Gless can act? I'm going to have to watch just to see that.
Have you seen Queer As Folk (US version)? She acts her little heart out in that too.
fffaw- 02-22-2008
Yep. She was very good in the US QAF.

I'm in love with a new show!! It's Breaking bad on AMC
It's really great! You should have a look on it but be prepare to be a little offended during some scenes  but it's worth it.

Anybody else watched "New Amsterdam?" The pilot was so-so, but the second episode was really strong.
arizonamyrie- 03-09-2008
Yeah, I don't remember his name but he really reminds me of Nathan Fillion. And it's like a tame version of Torchwood, only without the alien sex and stuff. I'm really enjoying his friendships with his children, who are all "older" than him. And I absolutely adore the music, for once a show has a unique sound.

I'm in love with it, too. Bryan Cranston has long been one of my very favorite people and he's just so *wow* in this show. It's fantastic. I hope that the truncated season (the strike got it halfway through) doesn't hurt it's chances of going further. I'm behind by a week, so I haven't gotten to the finale yet (it is tonight, right?), but I'm already disappointed that it's over.
The only gripe? The bleeping. It's inconsistant and unnecessary for the most part. I know that it was originally shopped to pay cable/FX, so it would have flown there, but it's occasionally distracting, especially when AMC could get away with leaving most of it untouched. But, that's just a matter of bad luck, I guess. A second series, I would imagine, would be written a little more for basic cable.

I agree that the pilot was so-so, but it was a lot better than I had expected. I had heard awful reviews of it, word of mouth, so either it wasn't as bad as I had been told or my expectations were so low that I wasn't all that bothered by it. The second one, I also agree, was much better. I like it. And I like that they are just jumping right in with it and not jerking the audience around. I'll stick with it. It lost some viewers Thursday (though most new shows are probably going to lose viewers if it's aired three times in the span of a week), but I hope it does well enough for Fox to at least run all of the existing episodes. That's all I ask for most of the time.

I watched the "New Amsterdam" pilot this afternoon and also thought it was better than I expected. It kinda reminds me of "Life." Not sure why, maybe the relationship with his partner.
The only thing I really found annoying was how he seemed to be an expert at so many different things.
I was amused by the fact they showed more skin of/romance for the leading man in one episode of NA than there's been in 3+ years of House.

I see that it's up against Lost, which can be why it's suffering in the ratings category. And, I guess if you've lived since before 1642, we'd all be like that too. Imagine how many professional degrees he could have by now if he wanted to.
And yes, gratuitous shots of Nicolaj Coster-Waldau in the pool is a wonderful thing, especially since he says he's not wearing anything. He definitely reminds me of Nathan Fillion though.
What I'm enjoying most about the show is discovering what he's experienced in his lifetime, whether it be flashbacks, him building things, or even historical photographs. I'm especially happy to have heard the name "John Coltrane" in the pilot. How many shows nowadays mention him even?
Namaste- 03-10-2008
It was against "Lost" for its second episode only, I think. Supposedly the idea was to give it a good launch post-Idol. I think the real time is going to be Mondays at 9 p.m. -- until "House" shows up in that slot. I can't figure out if Fox is trying to give it a boost with multiple airings post-Idol, or kill it quickly by changing the day again and again.
But yeah, between the Coltrane mention and Omar singing "Nature Boy," it's got great musical chops so far.
arizonamyrie- 03-10-2008
I totally forgot "Nature Boy." This show is a jazz-lover's dream come true. And of course, Thelonious Monk mention.

I'm not sure, either. If there were more than six episodes of it, I would say they were trying to help it by making two of them high profile slots, but since there aren't, it does feel a bit like they're burning it off. And it's unfortunate that they'll be holding the Thursday airing against it because I don't think the loss of viewers is relevant. If it had aired consecutive Tuesdays then I'd go with that, but unless you're nurturing something with repeat airings (like they did with "The OC"), it's not generally that helpful running it three times in seven days. Sucks for us, because I like it.

I got that, too and I think you're right...it's the partner relationship. The downside is that she's not as interesting as Sara Shahi, but it's possible that Shahi wasn't that interesting in the beginning either and I've just forgotten at this point. I like the actress, but I'm finding her very bland and boring here. Again, though, the only thing that I've ever seen her in (that I'm aware of) is "The Lone Gunmen", so I might have just rewritten history to make myself think I liked her more than I did.

Anyone else watch John Adams? I thought the 1st episode was pretty good, although I had a hard time keeping some of the men straight. All those thin-faced guys in wigs look alike to me :)
The episode really got me thinking about my ancestors who were in the colonies during the revolution. Who amongst them really wanted a fight? Who got dragged into a fight they didn't want simply to protect their family and property? Who kept their heads down and waited things out? Of course, I'll never know, as none of them (even the Adams of Massachusetts...) were important enough to leave a written legacy!
