Aw, Bea Arthur died. Whether she was Maude or a Golden Girl, she was always great. But then I remember her from "Mame," The Man In The Moon Is A Lady, as well as her appearance as Dewey's babysitter in "Malcolm In The Middle."

I'm so sad about this. She was the best. Nobody's more badass than Bea Arthur. Going through all her great moments in my head, I totally forgot about MITM. Their "Fernando" was fantastic. It's almost weird to me that I can't find a clip of it online right now.

Oh. That's sad. She was too awesome for words.

fffaw- 04-25-2009

Man, I loved Bea Arthur. I was so bummed to read that. :-(

extra_cat- 04-25-2009

I just saw that on yahoo and had to come find others who appreciated her. I love the Golden Girls. It's one of those shows that I think I've seen every episode of at least 6 times.

Poeia- 04-25-2009

I loved Maude. And her Vera Charles was the ONLY good thing about the movie version of Mame.

Namaste- 04-26-2009

The "Fernando" scene from Malcom is now up if you need a shot of Bea.

Reading some of the tributes to Bea Arthur, I was surprised to find out that she was only 5'9". For some reason I always assumed she was about 7 feet tall. She towered over everyone. She had such presence. And yet, she was only slightly taller than average. For some reason, that's been the most surprising thing I've read about her. There was no doubt she was the coolest, she also was larger than life. Even if she was under 6 ft tall.

Although when Estelle Getty and Betty White are your co-stars maybe even normal people appear to tower.

Namaste- 04-27-2009

I think the NYTimes obit (or perhaps Timesonline?) noted that her height was generally listed as "between 5'9" and 5'11"" so she may have been 5'9" offically the way that Tom Cruise is 5'10".

Poeia- 04-27-2009

GoFugYourself posted a link to this video as a tribute to her. Bea Arthur doing a duet with Rock Hudson about... I don't want to spoil it for you. Just watch it.

So, the Mother is someone Stella knows, right? Please? Because I'm not a big fan of Stella and I thought she was ruled out as the Mother. The rest of the episode was great, loved Marshall and his graphs, especially his pie graph for his favorite bars and his bar graph for his favorite pies.

radiosweetheart- 05-04-2009

Wouldn't the kids have known Stella was their mom? It's not too likely Ted would date ANOTHER Stella and end up marrying that one. So--while I haven't seen the ep because I was on a plane--I'm going to say I hope the mom isn't Stella.

amysusanne- 05-07-2009

Yeah, Stella's not the mom. I mean, HIMYM twists things around and plays it tricky, but the only way that this would work would be if "Stella" was a fake name and he's been screwing with his kids the entire time and that's a cheat. I'm guessing it's more likely that Stella introduces him to the mother. We knew that Stella would come back into Ted's life in a positive way because of the framed letter behind the kids. And given that it's been awhile since we've seen the kids, I think that seeing them was probably a clue that it was going to be Stella at the end because the first thing my eyes were drawn to was the letter. We also know that Stella was at the bar the night that Ted was and that the umbrella is connected to the bar and the mother. I'm going to assume that the eventual mother is a friend of Stella's and that'll be laid out next season. I *like* Stella and Sarah Chalke is always welcome on my television, but they clearly blocked her from being the mom early on, so it would be a big leap for them to try to work that back in. I loved Marshall so much in this ep. His obsession with charts and graphs makes me very happy and the call back to the bad fish jokes was very funny.

radiosweetheart- 05-07-2009

Watched the ep last night. Marshall and the charts was hilarious. Esp the fact that interest dwindled after the 'Cecilia' chart. How do you live up to that? As far as Stella being the mother-I'm pretty sure the idea that she introduces Ted to the mother is the only one that makes sense. There are too many clues pointing to her not being the mother for it to work out all of a sudden that she is.
