Although let's open this up for discussion....is it weird to have an actor that plays an iconic character to guest star on another show while their own is in production? I mean, do we want to see Hugh popping up on "How I Met Your Mother?"
That's a rhetorical question, right?
Well, no.
Mind you, I like HIMYM, although at this point if I saw Hugh on the show it would only remind me of House since that's what he's most readily associated with these days. It would probably bug me. I don't know.
But having said that, the production season for Mad Men is shorter than for House, so clearly JH has time on his hands and no one's going to see him as Don Draper for another 9 months. Sob!

It took a few extra days, but SNL finally posted the Vincent Price's 1959 Halloween Special with Jon Hamm as James Mason. Yes, it killed. "I once knew a girl named Regina...."
JH was so funny that I'll forgive them for introducing James Mason as the star of Lolita even though Lolita was released in 1962.

Anyone else watching the SNL Election Bash?
Reminds me how much I miss Phil Hartman.
And that Darryl Hammond as President Clinton is hysterical. Clinton comparing himself and McCain: "He likes CSI. I like Californication." And then later, further endorsing the show: "The sex's so real that guy had to go to rehab!"

I had the last half on, but wasn't paying that much attention. I hit record at the beginning to forward through later.
I so miss Phil Hartman. Did they show the Clinton in McDonalds sketch. I love that one. I'm not even sure how funny it really was, but Hartman made it hilarious to me. On the flipside, I also love Hammond's "I am bullet proof" bit.
On an unrelated note (and this little snippet I did see), all these years later, Lovitz's "I can't believe I'm losin' to this guy" still kills me.

Thanks for reminding me to check hulu today at lunch or whenever I need a break from my constant refreshing of NPR.org. I'm sure a laugh or 2 will be in order today.
Yikes.
Tension.

No, I don't think they showed that one. I remember that one, though, where he kept intercepting the mcnuggets and making analogies to somali warriors. LOL.
The Hartman sketches they showed (pieces of) were when he was Reagan, secretly the angry boss directing the arms for hostages / contra aid funding while being interrupted and having to entertain the girl scout who sold the most cookies. Then later they showed him as crazy Admiral Stockdale, post-debate.
On the flipside, I also love Hammond's "I am bullet proof" bit.
Hammond just nails the whole bad boy/apologetic-but-not-really Clinton "look." There was a really really long extended laugh after one of his pseudo-naughty lines last night. (It was Clinton on the Weekend Update falling short of really endorsing Barack Obama.) I haven't been watching SNL much this year, so not sure if it aired a few weeks ago or if last night was new. At any rate, it slayed me.

"A thousand points of light!"

I watched too - there were so many old sketches that I had forgotten about.
The Admiral Stockdale thing cracked me up and this:
"I can't believe I'm losin' to this guy"
Classic.
I loved see Amy Poehler's Palin rap again. Just as funny the second time around. I'm going to miss her so much on SNL.
radiosweetheart- 11-04-2008
Was it the skit with Dana Carvey as Ross Perot when he drove Phil Hartman as a very confused and easily disoriented Admiral Stockdale out to a field and tried to dump him off but Stockdale chased the car down? Was that the only Admiral Stockdale skit, ever?
That never stops being funny.

Who am I? Why am I here?!?

He's the perfect post-Lewinsky Clinton. Phil Hartman was the guy who *might* have been a horndog, Hammond was the guy who totally embraced it. I love it.

I've heard a snippet of this. I don't know when it happened, probably late last season?
On the subject of Update, I love Tina Fey's "bitch is the new black", if for no other reason than "we may have hated those bitches, but we knew what the capital of Vermont was". That's a great line even if I most likely botched it.
I am almost ashamed by how much time i plan to spend on hulu in the near future.

"Jim, let me tell you something - there's gonna be a lot of things we don't tell Mrs. Clinton about. Fast food is the least of our worries.
"
Oh, how that turned out to be true ;)

The skit was recent - it was when Duffy was the musical guest (he says "Most importantly, thank you Duffy")

GRIDLOCK!

No, it must have been this season because he references Duchovny's rehab time. It was either new or was on the season opener, I guess? The only episode I've fully seen was Jon Hamm's, so...

She and Amy were great on that. Also loved Tracey Morgan's follow-up: "Bitch might be the new black, but black is the new president, bitch!"

No, don't be. Embrace it.

Jeez, you even commented on that and I totally ignored it. I looked it up and it was the Anna Faris ep, which is the only one this year that I haven't watched a single second of. At least there's a reason for my cluelessness.

So for the past couple weeks I've been all caught up on HIMYM and have been watching in real time with you all.
Do you think the show is dropping the Barney-Robin thing? There was no mention of it in this week's episode. I really love seeing Barney in love, and I do think they'd make a perfect couple. I haven't shipped a couple this strongly since House-Wilson or House-Me.
But HIMYM doesn't seem to drop story threads like House seems to, so I feel confident they'll take this up again. Hopefully sooner rather than later...
amysusanne- 11-12-2008
I'm pretty sure Barney/Robin isn't dropped, it's just hibernating for awhile. They don't ever forget anything over there and this is a big one, so I'm confident we'll see it again.
I loved everyone reactions to the sock Monday night.
