Is anyone else watching Big Bang Theory? I caught a couple of episodes and wasn't that impressed last season, but I have to say they have hit a geeky stride of late.
I caught an episode on the plane ride coming back from Japan. I didn't think much of it, but I was cranky and unable to sleep on the plane, so possibly that shaded my view. *g*
Wow. I can honestly say that I've never thought about the impact that 9/11 would have had on SN. And I feel very stupid for the fact that that thought never crossed my mind. It would have no doubt been something Sorkin wouldn't have been able to *not* address.
Oh, yeah. I had never thought of it either. Although I believe some shows that take place in New York just kind of glossed over it? Like, did Sex And The City ever address it?
I liked the episode Sorkin did regarding 9/11 on The West Wing. I thought maybe the episode wasn't the best written, but it was done quickly. And in a show that revolves around politics I can't see how they could have avoided it.
And I'm watching a show with Rob Lowe where he plays an ex-politician. (Brothers And Sisters?) Heeeee.

IIRC, most shows didn't address it directly, although here's an article about how SaTC handled it. It was a lot more about references to dealing it with the insanity of it afterwards. I remember Friends had an American flag in the cafe afterwards.
ETA: Oddly enough, I also remember that shows like Friends had not been doing as well in the ratings immediately before the attacks, but that after, a lot of people came back in an effort to cling on to anything familiar. But, that's a different story altogether.

Does anyone watch Family Guy? That stupid song has been stuck in my head since Sunday. At least I know what the word is ;)

Crap. Now I'm tune-tagged too!!! Thanks Geeg! But, at least it's a good show.

I hate that song. I watched that episode last night and about put a shoe through the TV by the end of it.

I still love "Pushing Daisies." That show made me laugh out loud at least three times last night (I'm not a laugh out loud person, especially when I'm alone.), one of the best being the clown car bit.
And I never knew how much I loved Chi McBride until he became Emerson Cod.
"Love. It."
amysusanne- 10-09-2008
Chi is so awesome. I can't imagine that most people could make some of those jokes work like he does. Anyone else saying something to the effect of "I found the mimes and they ain't talkin'" would be cheesy, but coming from Emerson? Comedy gold. And he and Lee Pace are so excellent together.
And the clown car? You knew it was coming and it was still hysterical.
I love this show. People must start watching this show so that ABC doesn't do something rash and take their ratings frustration out on the show that *isn't* being produced by people with other hit shows on the network.

I admired their intentions because, as a political show, they were kind of in a no win situation. It wasn't awful by any stretch of the imagination and they made it clear that it was a special epsiode and, iirc, wasn't canon or intended to be chronological. I sort of treated it like one of those filmstrips you'd see in grade school where they'd have, like, the cast of WKRP teaching you about savings bonds or some crap like that.
And you mentioned "The Big Bang Theory": I really like that show. I like Johnny Galecki a lot, but had it not been a part of the lineup with HIMYM I might not have given it a shot. But, I started DVRing it last year and it sort of hooked me. I don't miss it when I don't see it, but when I watch it I really enjoy it. I liked this week's a lot.
I wasn't as crazy about HIMYM which had some high points, but was kind of meh overall. I loved Marshall's "I am New Jersey" ranting and the look on Barney's face at the end was heartbreaking, but it seemed to be more about getting it somewhere in the future than actually making us laugh at the moment. And I guess we can assume that Robin either never makes it wherever it was that she was being sent (Japan?) or comes home to no apartment and *that* is why she's living at Ted's place on his birthday this year. Because if Marshall and Lily ever move to their place and Ted moves to Jersey...nobody's giving up a rent controlled apartment in Manhattan.
Yeah, I'm kind of obsessed with getting to the goat story, because everything they do, in my mind, is leading up to that episode.
arizonamyrie- 10-09-2008
Oh I LOVE Pushing Daisies! I'm in the crowd though who will watch it at ABC.com just so I can pause and rewind to catch jokes and stuff. It's such a morbid show but done so well with comedy, sets, clothes, etc... that it works perfect. I was a huge fan of Fuller's Dead Like Me as well and was even very happy to get a shout out to Happy Times Temp Service last week.

I am SO NERVOUS about the goat episode! Barney/Robin, whatever. Ted/Ms. Right, whatever.
But they can't screw up the goat story. If they screw up the goat story I might never forgive them. :( They've built it up so much! And we have until what, April?
Curse you, Ted, and your not having a birthday in the winter ways. *g*
amysusanne- 10-11-2008
Seriously. Damn you, Ted. You're an unreliable narrator as it is, couldn't you have fudged your birthday to be earlier???
So, on the subject of the DVDs, did anyone pick them up yet? I knew they came out this week (or I thought they did) but they didn't have them at Target yesterday and in spite of the fact that Best Buy is right across the street, I was too lazy to go there and check. I'd just gone to the movies and I still had to go pick up dinner and for some reason that five minutes it would have taken me was too much. In hindsight...not too bright. I'll just have to grab them on lunch sometime next week. I'm anxious for a preview of what the extras are, though. I love their gag reels, so I'm hoping for another good one.
Wrt DVDs that aren't HIMYM, I did get "30 Rock". Omg, they included the staged reading they did at the NY UCB Theater back during the strike. It's awesome. Plus, there's a table read of "Cooter". And tons of commentaries, though I haven't actually listened to any. Still, the number of them is impressive. Definite thumbs up to these bonus features.
Namaste- 10-13-2008
On the "Dr. Horrible" front, I discovered the web site for Evil League of Evil via Twitter. (Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer both have twitter personas. So does Wil Wheaton, who announced that he'd going as Dr. Horrible for Halloween. I wonder if any of my RL friends would know who that was.)

*is somewhat terrified of this knowledge*
Meanwhile, turns out that Nathan Fillion is doing PG-rated porn: http://www.pgporn.tv/ And, it's a very long, twisted, and complicated story as to how I discovered that by accident.

I did and I love them! There are some good commentaries-- I really liked the one for The Platinum Rule, as I guess that was the only episode filmed without writers because of the strike and therefore there were no changes to the script at all. Interesting stuff.
And the Bloopers are great. It's about ten minutes long!
galaxygirl- 10-16-2008
We were at Target today and picked up all three seasons of How I Met Your Mother. I'm excited.

I finally got the DVDs this week, but haven't gotten to the commentaries yet. I've just watched a couple of eps and went through the rest of the extras. I love the "unrated" bloopers. They're a treat for anyone who has ever fantasized about a Segel/Hannigan/Harris threeway. Personally, I had not, but I do now. {g}
On the subject of strike-affected episodes: I also grabbed the "30 Rock" DVDs and there's some interesting commentary on the 2.10 episode (which wasn't named because the writers hadn't dealt with that detail before the strike went into effect). For the most part the commentaries I've listened to on that set aren't worth much, but that one has some interesting tidbits. Far, far, far more interesting in the extras are the table read of "Cooter" and the staged reading the cast did at UCB during the strike. Those are worth the price of the set times ten. Awesome.

Excellent. Don't leave your house, don't sleep, don't shower...just watch all three seasons straight through and report back.
