The thing I'm second happiest about: Wilson. Wilson, Wilson, Wilson. Hugh Laurie has said from the beginning that he thinks Wilson is the most intriguing character on the show, and with every episode I agree with Mr. Laurie that much more.
Complex, layered, dynamic; Wilson is a soother, and a dork, and a caring doctor, and a liar, and a giver, and a crappy husband, and a wonderful boyfriend. He said in House vs. God, "It is possible to believe in something and still fail to live up to it," and this is the very real, very human struggle he seems to face throughout the show.

The writers. I so love the House writers. I mean, even the names are so meaningful to House fans. Doris Egan, St. Doris: she wrote the baraku story and Hugh Laurie broke my heart with it. Simply, quietly, in just a few seconds. Such perfect matches between writers and actor. Hugh keeps House the exact same person no matter who writes the story and the writers always give House surprises to reveal. Kaplow's Autopsy. Shore's Three Stories. Nearly 100 fabulous scripts. An astounding accomplishment.
And on a smaller note, the funny little things that give continuity. Breakout inanimate stars: BOUO and flame cane. Mint tea. Many things.
Thanks 60 plus for posting that article. Really enjoyed it.
"It keeps me warm. And cool. How does it know?"
ETA: That's really beautiful to see Wilson through your eyes deelaundry. Gets me a little past my own habitual views which is a really good thing.

This thread makes me happy! Awesome...thanks to the mods for creating it!
I love House so much that I can say there will never ever be an episode I will not watch. The show is always a high point in my week and I'm so happy to have it!
I love House...the character...so much that I can't ever imagine him not being on my TV and I'm sad to think that will someday be the case. I love to watch him during his highs and lows. I love to watch him distract himself from the pain by playing music soulfully and emotionally when no one else is there (Eddie Van Halen's two-handed whatever was different  ). I love to watch him comfort people even though the rest of the world thinks he doesn't have it in him. I love that he uses his humor to cope with the stress of his life and job. I love his fierce loyalty to the people around him even though he steals their food...endlessly makes fun of them...points out their faults...and seems like a jerk to them sometimes. I love that a character like that can exist and still have so much of a soul that shines through that I can forgive him anything. For that...I gotta say...much love to the writers of course but really...thank you House for introducing me to Hugh Laurie. Watching him makes me happy. I'm an interview-watching...article-seeking...DVD-buying...excited bald-spot spotting enormous Hugh Laurie fan. But when I watch House...I see House and House alone. And I fell for House first so to me that's really important and very impressive.
I don't care what's coming in the episodes and seasons ahead. I just know that as long as House is there for me to watch...I'm all in. He's just too good to miss...no matter what's happening around him...it all goes back to him in the end and that's what I love.

Arpeggio hughsblues. EVH's two-handed arpeggio. Hee!
And that was beautifully said. Wow, this thread is bringing out some shining eloquence in everyone.
Watching "Detox" right now. House holding the vicodin pill that Foreman just handed him and the pain of wanting it and deciding not to take it. House figuring out the diagnosis from the death of the family cat, getting the reluctant ducklings to dig up the cat and then House, shaking, autopsies it. Love his fierce determination, befuddled back then by his being ok with being addicted. What kind of guy does this? Finding out is amazing.

Don't worry. Eventually there will be no new episodes, but I have the feeling the reruns will be showing for a long, long time. :)

You're welcome. Hee!
I have the feeling the reruns will be showing for a long, long time.
I think so, both on its own merits and because not many people want to see multiple reruns of game shows, reality shows, or Leno. As a well-written, critically acclaimed and popular scripted drama, it's got the strength that's going to last.
"Of course I've changed!" slams cane down....

Thank you so much for this thread! It's a relief and this way I can still visit another thread besides the HL one here. I was going to quit this board as well, as I did with so many places recently.
I somehow started believing I must be dumb for still loving the show so much, but I honestly can't see what's so wrong with it now. Sure, I sometimes don't like plotlines or think that certain things could have been handled better, but the same goes for all the other seasons.
I loved season 4! I loved the changes and what makes me very happy for example about them is the new Chase we got to see this way. Not really new, but evolved. For me the much better quality of his scenes makes up for the lower quantity.
I couldn't love HL anymore. He's the reason I became a fan and he will always be the reason for me to watch the show. Closely followed by the House/Wilson friendship and the House/Wilson/Cuddy dynamics. It is a pleasure watching Hugh, Lisa and Robert on screen.
And yes, I don't mind Thirteen. And yes, I actually know fans of her character. And yes, I also know fans of Foreman/Thirteen. And yes, I don't really mind them either. :D

Oh, I'm so happy with this thread, I just can not believe it. Only yesterday I told my husband how sad it made me that such a big part of this board started to overflow with bitterness, and here is this wonderful, shiny, happy thread. Just reading some of these comments brought a big smile (and a little tear) on my face. I will be back a little later to explain why I still love this show so much, but I just had to say this!
ermoo- 01-18-2009
I love the show, characters, cast (especially HL) and the humour of the show. I also love the fact that I have joined several message boards just so I can follow this show online and get to understand what other people all around the world think of this tv show, when there are probably more contructive things I could be doing with my time! I've always been a fan of HL's since I grew up in Britian and have followed his career but House has given him more exposure which in turn has lead to our family dog being given the name - Hughie!

House is the only show i HAVE to watch, come hell or high water i will still be watching !!
Think you can safely say i'm an addict too, of the show and Hughs work.
I have lost count of the times i have watched all the episodes so far on DVD.
Practically every search, google alert, boards are all Hugh/House related.
Without all you wonderful people who post clips, caps, reviews and so much more those of us across the pond and beyond would miss so much. Thankyou.
Our S5 will begin shortly, usually about March, the willpower is weak so spoilers are a must for me, i love the way the show is going, great storylines, great cast, so much to look foreward to, can't wait.

I love the way HL can act more with those eyes (sigh ... those eyes) than most actors can with their whole bodies.
I love the fact that the characters aren't cardboard cutouts or "types" but multilayered, flawed, sometimes inconsistent, always fascinating -- just like real hoominz.
I love the little meta moments the writers throw in for us -- or maybe for themselves? The "twin rabbis" reference in "Don't Ever Change," the "I'll be fine on Tuesdays" in "Frozen," Hugh holding the Emmy and making the "aw-shucks" face in "Living the Dream."
I love the fact that HL is so modest and genuinely incredulous that the character has become so beloved and a sex symbol, even. There's nothing sexier than a beautiful person who doesn't realize how beautiful s/he is.
I love the *amazing* fanfic that has come out of this fandom.
Did I mention ... Hugh's eyes?
euphrosyna- 01-19-2009
I'm just happy that House is back tonight and I'll get to see it tomorrow. :) And I'm happy that Hugh was so awesome and happy and in a good mood on Leno on Friday night and that Band From TV were so great.
jonne- 01-19-2009
What I love most of all about this show is the character of House. It/he is completely new and unique in my opinion. There are so many things to discover about him, and the way Hugh portrays him, that I don't think I will ever tire of watching.
Come to think of it, some of the things of this and last season which caused so much bitterness were exactly why I like the show so much.
The boobgrab, the giving back the gun, the "position on my penis", yes they were stupid or cringeworthy, but that's what I want. I want to be surprised, to call out "Oh no" and then in the next scene be completely moved by some discussion between House and a patient.
Perhaps the comments that the show is turning into a soap are true, but then it's the best, most unconventional soap I have ever watched, apart from "Soap" which happens to be my favorite show from a few decades ago.
I love they chose actors who have something to say, who are funny and giving and weird (you know who I mean).
Oh, and all the other things that have already been mentioned here! :o
Namaste- 01-19-2009
I love the fact that even in episodes I don't like, there are moments and scenes and nuances that I will watch again and again:
Georgia the Syphilltic Poetess in "Poison," the revelation of "Gout" and House's doggedness in the pharmacy in "Occam's Razor," the "'66 had a 'shut up button'" in "Mob Rules."
I'm amazed that the apparent warmth on the set between the actors also extends to the writers and the support crew. How many dramas have had the same stable of writers for so long without mass exoduses trying to create their own shows? The fact that it seems to be a "no ego," "no drama" workplace compared to others *cough Gray's Anatomy cough* which perhaps is a reflection of HL and his attitude.

Adding to my earlier love {g}, and like hughsblues said, thank you to the show for introducing me to Hugh Laurie, who I only knew from Stuart Little. It opened up a whole new world! I was hooked on the show first, and then Hugh, but once I bought the DVD's of S1 and 2, and went through those rapidly, I moved on to all his other work, and never looked back.
I'm very thankful to Fox for allowing House the time to build its audience. If they had canceled it in season 1 when the numbers weren't so great, I would have never seen it, as I didn't discover it until they put it in the time slot after A.I. I like to think that in a rare moment, a network actually knew what a great thing they had on their hands, and they weren't going to let a little thing like ratings bring that to an end!
House is the only drama series I watch, the first television series I bought the DVD's of, and the only show where I can watch episodes over and over and never get tired of them. Still laugh and still cry in the same places. I have watched an episode, and then started it over and watched it again. Cannot imagine doing that or even wanting to do that with any other show.
And I'm very happy for hhow and the friends I've made who share my obsession so much that we not only talk about it here, but spill over onto twitter where we have play by play dialogue during the USA repeats! That's love. And again, can't imagine doing it for any other show.
