Do you mean a vote against Adam as political statement? I heard about that and suspect that was partially true. I also think a lot of people like pleasant, unobtrusive, non offensive music more than glam rock (especially the voting contingent who's too young to drive) and THAT'S why Kris won.

I liked this description from the New York Times: At best Mr. Allen is a harmless singer: he makes Kenny Loggins look tough. At worst he’s indefensible, utterly lacking in texture and range and interpretive imagination. His aw-shucks demeanor spills over to his performances, in which his chin jerks violently to the right every time he aims for a big note, as if his mouth were struggling to deliver what his brain is asking for.

Whoo boy! Clay Aiken is pissy, ain't he? Make sure you follow the link about the Aiken-Lambert duet for more info.

Wow. I don't watch Idol. I don't know what Adam or Chris sound like. I think I've heard Clay sing once. But one thing I always liked about him was that he seemed to be a genuinely nice person who hadn't let everything that happened go to his head. He sure got over that, didn't he?

FOX send me a poll about my opinion of this season of AI and I'm telling them exactly what I thought of it, how much waste of space Kara was on the show and especially how much I hated that the contestants got to sing less songs this season compared to previous years(I'm guessing that's because of the 4 judges thing and they talk too damn long). I doubt it will make any difference, but at least I got all that out of my system. On of the questions was what I liked most about this season and I had to think really hard about that one.

I also got that survey and said Kara didn't add anything fresh to the show and I didn't like the judges being so obviously biased toward one contestant. I also said Ryan talks too much and the results show last too long. I liked rating the guest stars.

I've been watching the iTunes Top songs this week. If what people are buying is an indicator, then Kris Allen still would have won. He's got 2 songs in the Top 10, ranking at #2 and #4 compared to Adam ranking at #8. Kris's version of No Boundaries is #2 and Adam's is #24. If there weren't two versions of "Heartless" (#4) being sold, I think it would probably be the top song since the 2nd version (same recording, different source single) is coming in at #27. The 2nd source of "Mad World" (#8) is coming in at #31.

Well then, the producers and the judges should not complain. The brilliant concept of this show is that they created a formula where viewers literally choose who they want as their Pop star, essentially, and by crowning a single person based on the votes of the people, those votes thereby become an extension for future record sales. The people wanted Kris, they got him, and now they're spending money on him. So really, if this is what the majority want in terms of taste in music, knowing FOX everything being about money, they got who they deserved.

I'm not sure the viewers select the winner, more like the fan bases. Any inclination I might have to vote is negated by feeling that my vote just won't matter, because I work evenings and don't have time to spend 2 or more hours on the phone. Heck, even if I didn't work, there's no way I'm going to spend that amount of time voting for a TV show contestant. The show would be much more interesting IMO if they could somehow limit it to one vote per line. Of course they'll never do that, because it would decrease the vote counts they brag about. But it would be, IMO, much more meaningful.

The show would be much more interesting IMO if they could somehow limit it to one vote per line. That's kind of how they do it at Dancing with the Stars(5 votes a phone line, 5 online votes an e-mail address), and even then the biggest fanbase wins. Yes, I'm bitter about how that turned out as well. It is all about the money. I've seen the breakdown money wise, the show itself is the big cashcow. I highly doubt the show cares what happenes once the show is over, especially now the end is nearing and Simon is no doubt bringing X-Factor over once AI is over. Last season I did spend all the time possible voting, every week. When your favorite wins, it's really awesome to be a part of. A year later, it still is.

The producers of the show also own the management company for the performers so they get a percent of their future earnings. That's undoubtedly part of why Simon made so many remarks about Taylor Hicks being a bad choice as there was no way he'd sell many records. There must be a length of time they are contractually obligated to stay with the company because Clay Aiken and one other person (maybe Kelly) have signed up with new representation.

fffaw- 05-25-2009

I deeply enjoyed (snorted in amusement at) Clay Aiken's "apology" to Adam Lambert for his recent comments.

radiosweetheart- 05-25-2009

Poor chap, he's just sad that he's not the most fabulous star in Idol history anymore. Wouldn't you be sad, too?

I have a hard time taking 19E seriously since finding out that they wanted Carrie to release a pop album after she won and she had to fight to be allowed to release a country album instead. Everyone, and their moms, cats and dogs, knew that she was going to be a country artist, except for 19E who thought she had to go pop.

Poeia- 05-25-2009

I didn't say they're a good management company. (Just that they do care what happens after the show ends because they can make more money.)
