No comments on Hollywood week? I'm disappointed that they didn't show "Dave Bryan's Love Child" as my friends and I have taken to calling him (Scott), but I'm glad he's made it through. I'm sad that the Osmond got cut. I thought he was really good. I'm surprised that they spent so much time telling us about Rose and Emily and then they both got cut. I'm glad Jasmine made it through so far.

Housewhore4- 02-05-2009

I was elated to see they brought back group day! Seriously, I was royally pissed last year when they cut it due to "Missing out on talent". Guess they realize when they cut groups, they may lose some talent, but they also lose ratings with the crazy drama that comes out of it. So its back, and boy was it dramatic. It was borderline ridiculous with some of them, that Tatayana girl with the obnoxious laugh, can I just say I've added her to my metaphoric hit list. I want to punch her every time I hear that laugh. She better not last. I'm glad to see the best friends go through, can't remember the names, but the one who's wife passed away. As much of an emotional card they played with him, both guys are extremely talented. Their a cappella arrangement was brilliant, I loved them all! All, White Chocolate, very nice, though I'm not really sure how well the girl in that group can sing since the majority of the time she was rapping and singing backup. Also, the one girl who made it from the group with Rose and Bikini Girl (THANK GOD SHE'S GONE!), she has some mad pipes! Overall, nice crop of talent surfacing so far :)

Also, the one girl who made it from the group with Rose and Bikini Girl (THANK GOD SHE'S GONE!), she has some mad pipes! That's Jasmine. She's good. The judges loved some that I thought were bad. There was one group--I can't remember anyone's name--that I thought were terrible and they let them all through. And Norman? The guy who was more comedian than singer. Why did they let him through?

Housewhore4- 02-05-2009

Was he let through with the groups? i thought it was ridiculous that he got through when he sang solo, but seriously, he survived? Oh, and what was the boy's name in the group with the three who were bickering the entire time, my God, I wanted to smack him! Can he get any more pathetic? Crying and whining like a little girl on national TV, seriously? I hate drama queens, especially when its *all for the camera, wink*

Ugh. I knew the second they put Bikini Girl through that her group was doomed. I still think Kara was unnecessarily catty with her the first time out (even though I hated everything about her), but I'm glad to see that she was proved right with all of the douchey Hollywood Week behaviour. I loved the sad look of defeat when her group saw her walk into the room and realized that they were totally fucked. I'm sad to see Rose go, but I'm glad to be rid of Bikini Girl, hopefully, forever. I would have liked to see some of the more interesting people that *did* go through (like the blind kid) and see more of the ones that were high profile or did well early on but *didn't* go through (like the Osmond), but I guess we'll see the former next week and maybe the latter just wasn't interesting. That's Jasmine. She's good. The judges loved some that I thought were bad. There was one group--I can't remember anyone's name--that I thought were terrible and they let them all through. And Norman? The guy who was more comedian than singer. Why did they let him through? I think it's kind of awesome because it's like a game of chess. You can tell he has a good voice in there, but everytime they put him through you see this look of panic on his face like, "shit...what am I going to do now???". Then he hides behind the character again and they scold him and then they realize that there's a good voice in there behind the bullshit and they put him through yet again. I would have liked to have seen what got him through this time. We saw a couple of glimpses, but I'd like to know what how he did things without the silly clothes and the act.

And so it begins...

amysusanne- 02-06-2009

Good job Star Magazine, letting everyone else including "Entertainment Tonight" do the leg work for you. This Joanna crap has been known online and even on tv from the start, I'm not sure why Star is acting like it's new. Even the angle that she's connected to 19 isn't new. She shouldn't be in the "contest" because she's trouble, fair and square, evidenced by her entire career, but the bloggers and even the lame infotainment shows should be getting credit for breaking news of her being a "plant". Idol, as always, is a couple of steps behind the game. They did for her this season what they should have done for Carly last season (i.e., mentioning her label history up front during the auditions and acknowledging that they knew who she was beyond her previous Idol experience) but there is a biiiiiiig difference between this girl and Carly. There are a dozen or so professionals this year (that I'm aware of; I haven't read VFTW since we got to Hollywood), but this chick is the only one that I think crosses the very fine line between this being a legitimate competition and this being a scripted show. This girl advancing much further corrupts it in a way that I don't think anyone has in the past. Otoh, seeing her melt down might be fun because that's just inevitable. As would the eventual lawsuit she would file against the show. Because I hear she loves a good lawsuit.

extra_cat- 02-10-2009

Yay for Scott! I was hoping Tatiana got cut. She's just annoying.

amysusanne- 02-10-2009

There's still time. There's way too much crazy in her to make it through to the next round. Then again, there was a lot of crazy that got put through, so fingers crossed that we'll cut it by at least half tomorrow night.

Housewhore4- 02-10-2009

AHHH! Why the hell did they keep Tatayana? I'm going to strangle someone! But I'm sooo happy the BFF's got to stay together (though, they were favorites, but I really like them). Besides Tatayana and Norman/Nick (I still don't understand what they see in him), it was a decent night of picking. Though wtf is up with tomorrow? The judges' mansion? What is this, the Bachelor? Apprentice? What happened to the nice building they used to sit in with a modest chair to await their fate? Thought if they spiced up the background/location it would make it more entertaining? WTF?

amysusanne- 02-11-2009

I was wondering if the "mansion" wasn't going to be a throwback to the early days when the contestants lived together. They got into much trouble back then, so I'm assuming they wouldn't give it a second go, but since this season is all about mixing things up *and* returning to their roots, it seemed like they might throw caution to the wind. I would think that, given that everyone knows where the apartments are at this point, they might want to move them to a new place. Either way, in the past couple of seasons, iirc, they've used the same location that they've held most of Hollywood Week and they aren't using that this season. I suppose they could have continued to use the various locations at Hollywood and Highland, but I was bored with that the first day. I'm enjoying the judge's relationship with Nick Norman. I think that getting sent through totally threw that guy and even though he *does* have a nice voice he's not equipped to be himself. The confidence isn't there, so he goes back to the crutch. Meanwhile the judges both can't cut him (especially after they put through the word manglers last night) and seem to be playing the same mind games with him that he's playing with them. He hasn't taken anyone's deserved spot that we've seen at this point (because the talented folks that got cut last week fell victim to the one strike botched lyrics rule), so there's no point in cutting him. His fate will be decided tonight and I would guess that he'll be gone. And I would guess that he'd be fine with that. I did respect him for not sabotaging his group even though Simon accused him of such. For that fact he seems like a good guy since he put the gimmicks aside so as not to sink them with his schtick. eta: nevermind, ryan confirms the mansion is a one shot. no hope for shacking up again.

galaxygirl- 02-11-2009

4 minutes in and I've already said 'Randy, Shut Up!!' What's up with FOX? It's past 9pm and the show just started, I'm a bit confused about that.

amysusanne- 02-12-2009

Good riddance. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/americanidoltracker/2009/02/contestant-swap.html I have no idea who Felicia is, though. Then again, I have no idea who half the people we saw last night are in the first place. My only major gripes (beyond Simon's attitude throughout most of the show) are that Jamar got cut and Tatiana, Joanna and that drama queen kid whose name I can't think of made it through. Idol has clearly corrected one of those errors, but I'm guessing I'll have to live with the rest.

galaxygirl- 02-12-2009

Fascinating. I guess they figured that they simply couldn't let her go through with everything that's known about her. Imagine the backlash, would have been worse than what happened to Carly.

amysusanne- 02-12-2009

Seriously...there was just too much happening to make people hate her, her awful personality not included. Carly, in the end, was ultimately innocent in the the grand scheme of things. There was little difference between her and other contestants who had had deals and such, they just handled her so, so poorly. I think, ignoring the obvious and major problem of having a connection to 19 execs, Joanna just had way, way, way too many opportunities and failures. I'm all for a girl like Carly who had awful luck (or any number of Kellys or Jordins or whoever has had previous deals and connections) making it through, but Joanna didn't have bad luck, Joanna had failures. The overly conspiracy minded are now rambling on about how it was a set up from the start with this being the outcome (which makes no sense at all) but I think Idol should prepare itself for a lawsuit. I hope their lawyers are preparing a better worded statement about her disqualification today because I'm just picturing her standing outside of the Idol production office screaming "NO TAKEBACKS!!!" and crying while her mom video tapes it. I'm just amazed that this girl has managed to go on as long as she has and get all the opportunities that have been handed to her. She's been a professional since she was a child and she can't remember the lyrics? EVER? Now if only Nate could be disqualified and Jamar could come back. Although I'm still not counting Jamar out. That wild card thing could still happen.
