Aww, Daddy picked a nice inspirational song for Archie Jr, down to the Jesus mentioning in it. The robot is all ready to go again.

David Cook was a disappointment after last week, but still one of the best IMO. I just don't get David A.'s appeal. Okay, I guess I do. He's cute and he does have a good voice. But his style... ugh. I can't imagine ever buying his albums. I thought he was kind of icky on this song. I kept thinking it sounded like the tune was something else and I couldn't quite catch it. Kristy Lee was good. I love that song. I saw Keith Urban and Mindy Smith do Coat of Many Colors at the Ryman and was one of my favorite performances of any song.

galaxygirl- 04-01-2008

David never seems to know what he's singing about, that's one of my main problems with him, he's an emotionless performance robot without any life behind his eyes. That and I don't like his looks, his voice and his fan girls.

radiosweetheart- 04-01-2008

Syesha just should've run not walked from "I Will Always Love You." It lacked the necessary chutzpah. And yes-Archie always seems more interested in impressing than experiencing. It's a major flaw-for realz.

galaxygirl- 04-01-2008

You just don't out-Whitney Whitney. I would have respected her until the end of days if she had gone for the DOlly version, but that's too much to ask for from these girls who all seem to think they have Whitney-like pipes(no kids not those pipes, crack=whack)

radiosweetheart- 04-01-2008

Well, well, well--I have an urge to download Michael Johns singing "It's all wrong but it's all right" right now and locate me a booty call. Meow.

extra_cat- 04-01-2008

Michael Johns was excellent. I may download his tune this week too. Jason Castro was passable. I'm thinking Ramielle or Syesha will go home. I actually thought Syesha was pretty good even if it was completely predictable that she'd try to Whitney her way through that song. She should have chosen something else to avoid the comparison.

galaxygirl- 04-01-2008

Wow, I had completely forgotten about Michael's existence on this show. After Sy I looked at the clock and was surprised how much time they had left and all. It never even occurred to me that there was still one to come. I think that is a bad sign.

You just don't out-Whitney Whitney. I would have respected her until the end of days if she had gone for the DOlly version, but that's too much to ask for from these girls who all seem to think they have Whitney-like pipes(no kids not those pipes, crack=whack) The problem is that she *did* do the Dolly version. She tried, at least. And then she went right into the Whitney version. She (or the music director) either wanted the best of both worlds or they thought it would be cute and, whichever it was, that was the biggest mistake she could have made on a long list of mistakes that began with picking that song in the first place. If you're stupid and/or brave enough to do it, you pick one or the other and you let the chips fall where they may. The audience and the judges aren't listening to how nice your voice does or doesn't sound, they're prejudging you and picking apart everything that doesn't sound like Whitney or Dolly. The song should have been removed from the song list all together. Obviously until she is gone from my world, KLC will be my choice to go home, but if I was throwing down money I'd say it's Ramielle this week. And since Jason's fans should have wised up after last week and KLC didn't do a strip tease to "The Star Spangled Banner", I'd say that she and Syesha are rounding out the bottom. The "surprise" bottom threer would probably be Carly, but I don't see her or any of the others being in danger. Well, well, well--I have an urge to download Michael Johns singing "It's all wrong but it's all right" right now and locate me a booty call. Meow. No. fucking. doubt. Favorite of the night. Best all 'round and, attention Constantine, *that* is how you make all the girls drop their panties, not that bullshit eye fuckery you do. He was my favorite performance, but my favorite moment was David Cook basically saying "get off my back" to all of his critics. And rightfully so. Short of having Garrett Morris in the corner of the screen screaming out the full history of each song he chooses for the more obtuse people in the audience, the dude can't do much more to hammer home the fact that he's getting these songs from other people. And to follow it up with his own arrangement was a pretty nice "fuck you" to Doxology (whoever the hell they are) and even Chris Cornell who has either decided to completely disappoint me with his cattiness after initially being very cool about it or has been misquoted throughout the week and should start whining about that. eta: and apparently "busker" is Simon's new "thing" this year. Whoever taught him that word should be smacked around with that pole that they'll be prying out of his ass later tonight.

Well, well, well--I have an urge to download Michael Johns singing "It's all wrong but it's all right" right now and locate me a booty call. Meow. He's been really good these past two weeks, and he made that song sound very sexy last night.

American Idol Ethnomusicology with Prof. Garrett Morris. Fantastico! According to DialIdol Little David is beyond safe-again. I don't get it. He's an automaton. Maybe people are voting for him so that his stage daddy doesn't beat his little star to a pulp for ending up in the bottom 3.

The appeal of David A is he has a very very good voice. I think he is cute, in he reminds my of my nephew cute. For being so young, he has incredible control over his voice. So I believe he will be in the top 3. He also has a lot of fangirlies. I don't know anything about the Daddy -vs- son issue. I only am watching them sing. To me, the top 4 are: David Cook. I love his voice. It has a tinge of Eddie Vedder sound. He is very talented, likes to take chances and has a great voice. Michal Johns-I think he is the full package & could possibly take it all. Good voice, nice body, nice song choice, great style and very pleasing on the eyes. Carly S-She is the best female out of all of them. I love her voice. She can rock, be mellow and can belt it out when needed. I felt sorry for her when Simon made the comment about finding someone to change her style of dress. I love Simon but he needs to get laid. He's been way too crabby these past few weeks. David A-see above.

Maybe people are voting for him so that his stage daddy doesn't beat his little star to a pulp for ending up in the bottom 3. That probably helps. Last week's showing of the girlfriend/beard resulted in a lot of upset tween girls who refused to vote for him, which resulted in him not being the top vote getter for the first time. His dad is a nasty piece of work. Edited to add that the other David is doing fine now after a trip to the hospital yesterday night after the show.

American Idol Ethnomusicology with Prof. Garrett Morris. Fantastico! We should pitch that. According to DialIdol Little David is beyond safe-again. I don't get it. He's an automaton. Maybe people are voting for him so that his stage daddy doesn't beat his little star to a pulp for ending up in the bottom 3. The kid is clearly talented and he's very likeable even if it's become grating how sugary sweet he is, but it's the actual performances that get me. I don't think I fully realized it until reading Joe's recap this morning, but I would enjoy him so much more if I couldn't see him. Hearing him is nice, seeing him is like watching an animated character come to life knowing that he only has a few minutes before they power him back down for the night and he has to get all of his awesomeness out at once. It's not working. He'll be fine, though. I think he could sleep walk through the next three weeks without worry. After that is when he needs to start cracking down and getting it together. The sad part is that I don't think he realizes that what he's doing now isn't going to win it for him. He needs an unbiased outside party to sit him down and explain a few things to him. the DI breakdown is mostly as expected, but Syesha being up there with the popular kids for a change is a little jarring. Maybe last night was her "God Bless the USA"? Who knows. Ramielle's going home, but if Castro really is second to last (which is pretty doubtful) then his fans deserve his elimination. I thought they'd rally last week and while I definitely don't expect him to beat Cook or Archuletta, I expected better than that.

Quote: I wonder if they'll be restricted to songs Dolly wrote or if they can do any song she recorded. I would think, assuming they can get the rights, that if the Dolly version of something is the definitive (or if the song was written for her by someone else) then it's fair game Well, that question was answered Dolly writes most of her own stuff. Only one of the contestants sang a song not written by Dolly. I love Dolly and was cringing when I heard Jason was going to do a cover of Traveling Through. I love that song and after getting it free from ITunes last year it was for nearly a year at the top of my most played list. I thought Jason was good and but not particularly memorable and I wonder if he got the meaning behind the words?
