Weren't they supposed to tell us who the mentors are this year? They wasted an hour and still forgot to include that. I have that crappy version of "Eight Days a Week" stuck in my head. As if I didn't feel bad enough as it is! LOL

Weren't they supposed to tell us who the mentors are this year? They wasted an hour and still forgot to include that. I have that crappy version of "Eight Days a Week" stuck in my head. As if I didn't feel bad enough as it is! LOL From what I heard on the TwoP AI forum, there were only going to be 4 mentors to begin with(Andrew Lloyd Webber night is a very persistent rumor), the rest were going to be theme weeks like songs from the year you're born. Next week was rumored to be songs from the iTunes top 100 and the most recent rumors have it that they couldn't get most of those songs cleared hence Beatles night 2.0. I wonder why they didn't tell us what the theme's for the upcoming shows are.

I've heard that Aerosmith want to do it, but I wonder how many of their good songs would pass the family friendly lyrics requirement.

So the right bottom three, so the wrong person going home. It didn't shock me, but it did bum me out. Universe, please get rid of KLC next week. And yeah...we get it. You guys finally got the songbook and you're afraid you won't ever get it again. But, you know what? You keep this up and you *definitely* won't get it again. After that group sing, Paul should take out an injunction. OK, I'm biased, because I'm an old-school Beatlemaniac. Last night wasn't bad in a trainwreck way, but a lot of these contestants don't seem to appreciate or even "get" the Beatles. When people are electing to do a cover of a cover of a Beatles song, I just give up. So why force it for yet another week? Why cast pearls before, um, kids too young to care? The show pays lip service to the greatness of the songs, but it doesn't provide a very good showcase. Even the judges praised interpretations that, while technically OK, just got the song completely wrong, like they learned by rote without any idea of the meaning. Also, some of the best early Beatles songs are just all wrong for a solo artist, because the Beatles were also a great little rock'n'roll band. Simon says "She Loves You' is easy, but think about it without the two voices and the backing track - lame. Yeah, this was not well-thought-out. I read on The Other Place that last night they had to choose from a list of 25 songs. Don't know how true that is, but it explains some of the choices. I hope they don't have to pick from what's left for next week. Why not an un-themed night for a change? Contestant's choice. Let's see their true taste.

The grassy knoll people, I'm a proud member, are putting money on David A singing 'Yesterday' as we speak. Maybe they should give him something easy like 'She loves you', he can't possibly mess that up. I couldn't figure out why he didn't do "Yesterday" before and then I realized that it was just because he'd never heard of it. He needs to do a ballad/slow song/much less up tempo than what he did to survive. I don't think he could pull off "She Loves You" and if he butchers another one he's seeing what the bottom three looks like. I gave him several weeks before that happens, but I think the public would turn if he did a second week of what he did Tuesday, grassy knoll or no. If they wanted him to continue his "lead" they would have made sure something like that hadn't happened this week. But, then, I'm of the opinion that everyone can't be a ringer and can't really keep up with who the chosen one really is. It changes hourly. I wonder if he knows who actually wrote Imagine, since he clearly has no idea who the Beatles are. I'm sure he was told when he picked it and it went in one ear and out the other. Either that or he didn't realize John Lennon *was* a Beatle. Though how he would know about the Eva Cassidy version is beyond me, so the kid clearly has had access to a lot of music with a *lot* of gaps. After that group sing, Paul should take out an injunction. It was bad, but I think it would have improved by about thirty percent if they hadn't had so many mic/technical issues. Not to mention that question thing they did. WTH was up with that. That was ridiculous. I tend to find the results shows boring as well (though I'm always up for a cheesy group sing), but that was just unnecessary and weird. I'm assuming they're trying to pull the public in more to keep the ratings up, but it's only going to backfire. No amount of pre-screening or plants can keep that from happening. And while I would assume that Ryan's experiences on the radio and LKL would help him immediately get out of some nightmare live TV situation involving a viewer phone call, I'm not as sure (especially after last night) that I trust the production team or even the judges.

I read on The Other Place that last night they had to choose from a list of 25 songs. Don't know how true that is, but it explains some of the choices. Uncle Nigel said that in an interview this week. Just bought the studio version of David Cook's Eleanor Rigby and it's even better than his live version on the show was. He's the only one of the current crop of contestants I can see myself buying an album of.

Voicebox for the win! David Cook has totally won me over. I loved his song. Brooke was disappointing this week. I didn't think Syesha was nearly as good as the judges did (even though it was her best performance). I think a girl is going home tomorrow. Amanda, Kristy Lee, Syesha, and Ramiele were all weak. They shouldn't have done that songbook again this week.

galaxygirl- 03-18-2008

Sorry. Too busy voting for David C. I love that he was showing off his bracelet and seems to be wearing it all the time. Total LOVE.

TrooperCam- 03-19-2008

Holy Jumping Judas what the hell is with Ryan giving a IPhone commerical in the middle of the show. He looked like he would rather have a vasectomy than do that. The guy who just sang A Day in the Life was horrid

galaxygirl- 03-19-2008

Poor Archie just can't win. He is boring as hell, except for when he bombs then he's entertaining in a bad way. I never feel that he's connected to the song and knows what he's singing about. And then the judges go and act like he's the second coming. It was painfully obvious that tptb put everyone on a script because Simon disliked everyone who's a distant threat for Archie's inevitable AI-7 crown. The pimping, I hate it more every week. Looking at the order of singing, I think they want Amanda or Kristy to go. I think Those two and Michael will be bottom three(Michael needs a 'wake up call') and Kristy Lee will go, a week too late.

David Cook has totally won me over. LOL. He totally had me at "I'm doing the Whitesnake version". (Stop looking at me funny, I grew up on 80's "hair bands" like Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, etc) I love a good entertainer who can rock out and look like he's having a good time doing it. This guy may be my favorite contestant ever.

This guy may be my favorite contestant ever. *high fives* I knew the Whitesnake version--and had no idea that it was Beatles song before they did it. In fact, I was introduced to their catalogue because Bon Jovi has played several of their songs in their concerts. I didn't know Come Together was theirs until I read the writing credits on an Aerosmith CD (or cassette, as it was back in the day). I'm young enough that knowing about their music came from looking into the people who influenced my favorite bands. I'm not sure I like David Cook better than Chris Daughtry yet, but he's definitely the frontrunner for me this season.

It was painfully obvious that tptb put everyone on a script because Simon disliked everyone who's a distant threat for Archie's inevitable AI-7 crown. The pimping, I hate it more every week. Yeah, it could hardly have been more obvious - "David's back!" from Randy, way OTT praise from Simon, and then Simon hating on everyone else. And I agree with your comments on David. His voice is good, his interpretation is nonexistent. Everything's sung the same. It's all so show choir. I guess I'm in a minority, but I even preferred Michael Johns last night. He had some problems, bit off more than he could chew, but I felt he was at least singing with some conviction. That excuses a few glitches for me. He, Brooke and Jason are the three who best seemed to get the Beatles. I think Jason may have drawn the short straw, song-wise. I'd have loved to have heard him do "I Will," from the White Album, if he was going to do a McCartney love song. "Michelle" is so pedestrian (IMO). Further proving that I'm out of step with the judges *and* the majority opinion, I also liked Ramielle last night. Kid can't win - she sings a ballad, they tell her to change it up; she sings a disco song, they say she's better at ballads; she sings a slow Beatles song, they say it's boring; she sings an uptempo one, they say she's better with ballads. I'd be dizzy trying to figure it out.

I prefer Michael Johns AND Jason Castro to David A. He's cute and he's got a nice voice, but if he made an album similar to his song choices, I wouldn't buy his stuff. I just missed the list of mentors--saw Andrew Lloyd Weber and Neil Diamond. Who else?

radiosweetheart- 03-19-2008

Wait...what? Andrew Lloyd Webber & Neil Diamond? Is this Guilty Pleasure season on AI? Kellie Pickler is surprisingly likable tonight. In a mainstream country, I'd never buy that, dime a dozen kind of way.
