Ranee- 03-06-2008

Well, that was forgone conclusion (just like Project Runway - what is it with lack of suspense in tv shows, particularly reality shows right now).

galaxygirl- 03-06-2008

Nothing really surprising tonight. Blake sounded good.

amysusanne- 03-06-2008

I fast forwarded through Blake. Which, I guess, means that next year I'll be fast forwarding through half of these people as well. But, yeah...the cuts were pretty standard. I would have preferred KL go over Asia'h, but it wasn't suprising that Asia'h got the boot. Oh well. Decent top 12, though. I think most of them will be a lot of fun to watch and, hopefully, the couple who aren't will be cut fast. I'm just thankful that VFTW failed in their mission to get Danny into the finals. No offense towards Danny (because it could have just as easily been Chikeze who walked out tonight and that would have been okay too), but after seeing their little mysoginistic rant against Carly today, I find it comforting that, at least in the eyes of those who never thought they had that much influence in the first place, they lost even more ground. And, frankly, I don't think they had that much say in Amanda going through given that I keep seeing fans of the show state that they genuinely like her. She's not going to win and might not even make it to the top ten, but people pull for her. So, basically, VFTW can suck it.

galaxygirl- 03-11-2008

David A. was a freaking disaster. The worst of the night with Kristy Lee Cook. She's probably the one that goes. David C. was amazing again.

amysusanne- 03-11-2008

Dear David Archuletta: Seriously? I don't know where you're actually living, but I know it's near the studio, which means that it shouldn't be too much trouble for your handler to toss you in a car and get you over to one of the record stores in Hollywood. Virgin's just a few minutes away. If you want to be cool, head over to Amoeba. Buy a fucking Beatles record, man. Ryan and Nigel have been foaming at the mouth with excitement over getting those songs for at least two weeks. You had time to start thinking about something other than that one song Stevie Wonder covered that you heard once on the radio this one time you were in the car with your mom or some such nonsense. You're not going home tomorrow, but you are on notice. Dear Ryan Seacrest: I get it. You heard the same thing I did and you knew Kristy Lee Cook sucked up there and you've been with Simon long enough to predict his every insult, so you were ready to defend her shitty performance. I knew what he was going to say, you knew what he was going to say, everyone knew what he was going to say. The problem is, you stood up there playing in your head what *you* were going to say and you completely ignored Paula's comments which were the most dead on, completely to the point comments she's ever made on that show. If you'd heard her, maybe you wouldn't have picked a pointless fight with Simon because, frankly, he'd been snippy all night and there was no way he was letting you get away with that. Nobody scored points in that one, which sucks because when you tried to make the point earlier in the season I thought it was completely valid and something that has bugged me every single season of this show. You get points for the whole Chikeze thing (because you were both kind of adorable), but that's it. You know I love you in a way that causes me great shame, but don't push it. End of schtick. I hope Kristy Lee goes home, but if either of the Davids got the boot I wouldn't be heart broken. Fortunately for David A., he's safe for a good three or four weeks no matter what he does. My only real quibble with the judging tonight was on Michael Johns who is still not the best up there, but was much better than they gave him credit for. I liked it.

galaxygirl- 03-11-2008

As I said elsewhere, the Ryan/Simon stuff is getting old, either get a room or stfu. Also getting old is the Randy/Paula ganging up against Simon when he disagrees with them. I also found it hilarious that Simon forgot 'that Irish girl's' name.

amysusanne- 03-11-2008

I've long grown tired of the genuine bickering between Ryan and Simon, though I still occasionally enjoy the sniping when they're both on the same page and in good humour. When it works it can be funny. But, they have those nights where they're just completely "off" from one another and it's just tedious because as bad as *they* are, when Randy and Paula get involved, it just makes me want to start tivo'ing the show so I can avoid all that shit. I almost feel sorry for Randy sometimes, but I can never quite bring myself to fully sympathize with him when he's being so annoying. There's Paula/Simon, there's Ryan/Simon and whenever either are playing around (or seriously bitching at one another) Randy feels left out and has to be in the middle of it. If he'd back off, those little episodes would pass us by much quicker.

extra_cat- 03-12-2008

I'm really tired of everyone jumping on Simon all the time too. Usually what he says is dead on. He gives actual constructive criticism and praise when it's deserved instead of babbling on about colors and dawgs. David Cook was the best of the night, easily. I didn't think Kristy Lee was as bad as David H or as boring as Ramielle or Syesha. I mean, the arrangement was terrible, but her vocals weren't that bad. David A was terrible too, but he'll be fine. Kristy Lee's probably a goner, but it could just as easily be Syesha or Ramielle for boring the audience to tears.

radiosweetheart- 03-12-2008

Kristy Lee won the Trying Too Hard award for the night. Possibly the whole season. Besides a terrible performance, her name makes it impossible for me to like her. "Christie Lee" the song turned An Innocent Man into a mediocre record, Kristy Lee the 'singer' made a mediocre night of music downright BAD. David Cook was the only interesting performer. That's saying something since I dislike Eleanor Rigby. A lot. A whole awful lot. David A was just embarrassing. The night as a whole was pretty shameful, IMO. Hint to future performers: You do not 'own' a Beatles song. You borrow it and treat it with respect.

amysusanne- 03-12-2008

I'm really tired of everyone jumping on Simon all the time too. Usually what he says is dead on. He gives actual constructive criticism and praise when it's deserved instead of babbling on about colors and dawgs. Where it gets complicated with me is in the fact that I'm a little hypocritical on the matter at times. Sometimes it makes me nuts and other times, not so much. Ryan is an advocate for the performers and I totally get that that's his job and I don't mind him calling Simon out and making him explain what he means. I'm just tired of the pile on that usually results when Ryan has had his feathers ruffled in some way and/or Simon is being pissy for no reason. So even though it's Simon and Ryan that start the shit, it's Randy and Paula that cause the pain. And it's really a two way street where the Ryan/Simon bickering is concerned because as much as I love Simon, he's just as much to blame for some of the more annoying spats on the show. That said, one thing I did kind of enjoy last night in the constant battle of "Ryan vs. Simon" was Ryan basically saying "bring it, bitch" and Simon backing down. Unfortunately, Ryan lost all of the points he gained there elsewhere in the night, so whatever. David Cook was the best of the night, easily. He's still getting a total free pass from me for awhile because he's got some talent and I like him a lot, but if he eye fucks the camera too much more he'll be well into Constantine territory and I'll have to break up with him. I've seen his future and it looks like Daughtry, Constantine and Sligh had a baby with super powers that make you feel as though you've been violated when their performance is over. I actually think Chikheze (I will figure out if the "h" really goes there or not) was the best, especially in hindsight. I think Brooke and Jason might be tied for second even though neither did anything particularly different. Carly was good and probably excellent in the theater, but it didn't translate. Ditto on Amanda, though I thought she was a hundred times better than last week, which is why I found it puzzling that Simon loved it, but not as much. I've found that week to week, I'm not on the same page as anyone where Amanda is concerned. didn't think Kristy Lee was as bad as David H or as boring as Ramielle or Syesha. I think Kristy's problem was that, while she might not have been as boring as the other two, she was just bad enough across the board that she's the worst of the night for me. David A. is in a very, very (biting at her heels) second. David H. was just doing theme park bullshit, but he didn't make my skin crawl the way the other two did. I think Ramielle is safe and obviously David A. isn't going anywhere, but it's probably up for grabs between S, R and KLC. radiosweetheart, we're so on the same page wrt both "Christie Lee" and "Elenor Rigby". Oy. The latter doesn't make ne want to punch anyone, but it's still on my short list of songs I hate. DC made it interesting, though.

galaxygirl- 03-12-2008

Someone please tell me that I misheard that they are butchering Beatles songs again next week? Dammit, they send my eye candy home :( He wasn't great but at least he was entertaining, Kristy Lee was just plain horrible. Ryan and Simon mud wrestling? Yes please, but only if they promise to get a room after that to make up in.

amysusanne- 03-12-2008

So the right bottom three, so the wrong person going home. It didn't shock me, but it did bum me out. Universe, please get rid of KLC next week. And yeah...we get it. You guys finally got the songbook and you're afraid you won't ever get it again. But, you know what? You keep this up and you *definitely* won't get it again. The bright side is that maybe it'll quiet some of the "Archuletta is their planned winner" theories since they're *clearly* not doing him any favors with a second week of songs he thinks are icky because they were recorded before 1992.

galaxygirl- 03-12-2008

The grassy knoll people, I'm a proud member, are putting money on David A singing 'Yesterday' as we speak. Maybe they should give him something easy like 'She loves you', he can't possibly mess that up. I wonder if he knows who actually wrote Imagine, since he clearly has no idea who the Beatles are.

extra_cat- 03-12-2008

Oh, I was waiting for David A. to sing "Yesterday" the whole show last night. I figured they'd give it to him being that it is THAT song and they seem to favor him. I hope David Cook will do With a Little Help from My Friends next week. I'm a little surprised that David H. got sent home. He or Ramielle either could have rounded out the bottom three. I expected a female to be going home and wouldn't have been shocked one way or the other if either of the girls got cut. I think if we must suffer through three repeat performances each week, they ought to give us the top three!

galaxygirl- 03-12-2008

I was so pissed about the whole 'bottom three singing their songs' thing. I mean, I'm willing to suffer through KLC butchering Eight Days a Week, knowing that she's gone, but making me sit through it again for nothing? Yeah, not amused. I'm mildly bitter about David H going home. I've never been a big fan of the result shows, but it's getting worse and worse. I tend to hate the group song, I rarely like the pimp-mercial and now they have the bottom three sing. Not to mention that question thing they did. WTH was up with that.
