Why would Wilson as Peter make you sad?
I was thinking strictly along the lines of the denials, but after you reminded me of all those marvelous connections, I had to take that back. :)

EC, can you add a little about James, Philip & Mathew for me ignoramus?
The denials make sense in a weird way - > Vogler, the romans?

I don't know a lot about Matthew. He was a tax collector which means he was completely distrusted by just about everyone. Tax collectors were considered so dishonest they could not even testify in a court.
Philip--there's not a whole lot to tell. He wasn't mentioned very often.
James. There were two James. The one in Cuddy's place was the brother of John and they were called "The Sons of Thunder." Along with Peter and John, James was the Inner-Inner Circle. Peter, James, and John were allowed to follow Jesus further than anyone else, including being in the Garden when he was praying before being crucified--though they all fell asleep.

Yeah, if they were placing them based on any Biblical history, Chase as Peter would make sense. Peter betrayed Jesus when he was afraid of execution--a heat of the moment kind of thing--after vowing that he wouldn't betray Jesus. When he realized what he had done, he wept. Jesus asked him three times, "Do you love me" and then forgave him.

Chase as Peter actually makes a lot of sense. I must agree. "When he was afraid of execution" seems like a big reason it fits so well for me.
I am uncomfortable with Wilson as Thomas, though. I really don't see him fitting that role. (If anyone realistically fits that role, it's House, with his reliance on reason and proof.) There have been times when Wilson has believed House without question. Although, RSL pulls off that skeptical look oh-so well.

Would you feel better if you knew that Thomas also declared that when Jesus was going somewhere that they should all follow so they could die with him? Just as there was more to Peter than denial, there was more to Thomas than doubt.
You see how desperate we get for discussion when we've gone without new shows for 4 months? A photo playing on The Lord's Supper has turned this into Theology class.
My question is were these positions intentional or just a coincidence? It's fun to look for parallels, but they could be meaningless.
saara_zaara- 09-20-2007
I'd like to think there was actually some thought put into this, though I'm not sure we'll ever know. I'm particularly enamoured of the idea of John referring to himself as "The disciple Jesus loved" (sound familiar? ;D) and the Chase parallels do make their own type of sense.
5 days & counting.....

I'm okay with Wilson being Thomas in the photo. It implies that Wilson sees House as flawed and human, which reiterates that House and Wilson know each others faults better than anyone else. The faith, if you will, that most people have in House creates distance.

ITA. I'd rather him be Thomas than Judas, because...yeah been there, done that, let us never speak of it again.
*brainwashes you all to forget Manchurian style*

I wouldn't say that. I mean, yeah, S3 Wilson was Judas, but aside from the legal issues and duration, the Tritter arc brought us some fascinating stuff. I think a Judas ala Andrew Lloyd Webber or the like in Wilson could be interesting.
LightMyCandle- 09-20-2007
Possibly, but still, I've seen it and I never want to see it again. :x
misere- 09-20-2007
Well, if you really want to stretch the comparison, you could go with the Nikos Kazantzakis/The Last Temptation of Christ interpretation of Judas. That might be more favorable to you.

WILSON AND I HAVE THE SAME HOODIE!!!
I'm crazily vibrating with love over Wilson Tivo-ing a spanish soap opera. Thank you PB for yet another stereotypical gay attribute! I'd rather he'd be shagging men, but you can't always get what you want etc.

Actually, I do feel a little better. And I could talk about this for hours and hours; it's a really fascinating topic to discuss.
I think the photograph definitely intended a Last Supper scene. There are even three windows in the background to drive the comparison home, visually, if there were any doubts. As to who's in what position, I'd like to think that whoever was responsible for the set-up tried to draw character parallels, but I'm not sure that happened. As I've learned, it's difficult to compare these characters to Biblical persons, since they're equally complicated. (It is fun, though.) I'm just not sure someone would put that much effort into a publicity photo beyond its basic elements, but if someone were to do a Last Supper recreation, I'd hope they'd do their research.

Ah, soap operas. House is rubbing off on him. Ha! I made a joke. Teehee. *climbs out of the gutter*
*remembers I'm talking about H/W and dives back in* :D

Okay, this may be a stupid question but: are we sure that show's a soap opera? Because I thought soaps like that didn't have season finales? They just go on and on (and on and on...). Here in Europe most soaps have season finales, but I figured shows like Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, etc wouldn't be stopped by anything.
I hope it's a soap opera though since that would be another point to the BGW camp. Oooh, and maybe it's Spanish because he wants to learn the language that way...You know, so he and House would have even more in common.
