I am intrigued by the conversation Chase had with House in LTD about Cameron and her annoying friend. Chase said he didn't want to spend all his time with Cameron. So learning more about their relationship might be interesting. I'm very committed to my significant other and love him dearly, but I don't want to spend all my time with him. I didn't take Chase and Cameron spending one evening a week away from each other as anything but a normal part of a relationship. (And, of course, the impetus for House coming up with his Wilson time-share plan.)

and it's true that it's not her decision whether to go for it but if you don't like the direction the show is going and she's been out there saying for years House and Cuddy should just shtup and how wonderful it would be, it happens. Jennifer Morrison references Cameron's relationship with House just as often, and I for one would be sorry to read any posts personally attacking her if House and Cameron ever do happen. The actors don't direct the storylines, the writers do. Lisa and Jennifer are just doing their job, publicising the show from their characters' perspectives. LE told the producers she might get pregnant in the near future when she was hired, and the writers decided to put something in the storyline to accomodate that if it happened. She also suggested the backstory, but if the writers didn't want to go that way, they wouldn't. David Shore does not seem to get pushed around easily. If you get out a microscope and look really, really closely, you can see that Cameron had a bit of an arc this year in terms of learning what her feelings are vis-a-vis diagnostics versus her feelings for House the man. So in that sense, Chase better established his boundaries because we didn't see what he went through. I'm still not sure how firm his boundaries are around House though since he walked out of House-sitting. Either they're very firm or he's not sure enough of them to risk it. I don't think you need a microscope to see it--Cameron's scenes with Chase, Foreman, herself and House where she debates and finally decides on how she feels were definitely there. And I don't think there is too much doubt that Chase is sure of his boundaries and only willing to deal with House on his own terms. He's sure enough of that to walk away when he wants and engage when he wants, and spend some fun personal time with House when it's on offer. The boundaries Chase seems to have some sense of risk over are his relationship with Cameron in regard to her feelings for House. "I like him better this way, don't you?" so she was still directing the relationship then. I haven't particularly seen him be able to get through to her 'when she needs it.' Foreman seemed to do more for her in WIT than Chase did. I'm not sure how Cameron liking Chase setting his own boundaries very firmly with House is Cameron directing the relationship. Chase was directing himself there and Cameron was appreciating that, not orchestrating it. Chase was able to point out to Cameron that she was more focused on House than one would expect during the FWB, that she was being unfair in being angry at him for caring about her, and she was not as separated from House again as one would expect this year. Foreman helped as well, but Chase being able to do this and still be in a relationship with Cameron I think this bodes well, because Cameron is always going to be headstrong without a great deal of personal insight. Two divas (diva/o?) in a relationship together won't work. I think C&C complement each other and that's what I'm hoping to see in their ep next season. What will be particularly interesting for me is Chase's evolution if TPTB are going to continue to frame Chase as House jnr both diagnostically & personality development with setting boundaries as well as what level of drive they both have interms of getting ahead professionally etc. Although I do think Chase has a touch of House's creativity and out-of-the box thinking, and his ability to read people, I've never thought Chase was supposed to be a mirror of House's personality. They seem to have very approaches to life in many ways, to me.

Thankfully he didn't replace his House-approval crutch with Cameron-approval. That said, I do wonder what they each get out of the relationship (other than sex & possibly someone to go home to, though we have no idea if they are living together) & in particular I wonder if Cameron isn't really fairly conventional about the men she has actual relationships with, because otherwise Chase doesn't make a lot of sense for her to me.

I think it will be interesting to take a look at Chase and Cameron so much later - probably a year or more past when they started their relationship. That's a point where, like little xkcd characters, a lot of people wonder if this is something that should be more permanent, or if they're just coasting because they're comfortable. Although for that matter, knowing nothing about the episode's context, Chase and Cameron's relationship may not be something played with for high drama, but for comedy - generally, their interactions as a couple have been on the lighter side.

(And, of course, the impetus for House coming up with his Wilson time-share plan.) Word. I was just about to post something similar when I saw your post. I love my husband very much, and we have a very good relationship—but neither of us likes to spend all our free time together. (Free time = when the kids are asleep or when one of us has taken them out somewhere.) In fact, we spend most of our free time by ourselves. Perhaps that is a side effect of being together more than 10 years and dealing with the everyday stresses of work and kids. But even when we were newly dating and later newly living together, we never spent ALL our free time together. I think that couples who don't spend time by themselves and time with their own friends... are generally in unhealthy relationships. Having said all that, I don't think Chase and Cameron have a healthy relationship AT ALL. And while I like having Cameron be in a relationship with someone so that it (theoretically anyway) keeps her away from House romantically, I don't like having her with Chase. He's a great guy, and I think he deserves better than playing second-fiddle to another man. I don't think Chase will ever believe that Cameron actually wants him; I think part of him will always think that Cameron is "settling" for him because she can't have House. If this episode shows us that they are both happy and have a good relationship, then I'll accept it. But my prediction is they break up. Also, I'm really not looking forward to this Chase-Cam-centered episode. While I love Chase and could watch him all day, I don't love Cameron. She bores me to tears, and I don't think she is strong enough to carry an episode.

They seem to have very approaches to life in many ways, to me. I thought they showed that Foreman was mirroring House's personality, but that didn't mean he had House's diagnostic skills while Chase was growing in leaps and bounds as a diagnostician while not mirroring House's personality. To me, Chase and Foreman together showed that you didn't have to be a jerk to be brilliant--House really is a unique combo of jerk and brilliance. As far as Chase and Cameron go, I really wouldn't mind seeing what's working in their relationship because there's no point in them breaking up at this point anyway. Ham is dead at the moment because they're going to focus on Huddy. It would really be a let down IMO to know that Chase and Cameron were together for a year and a half in a real relationship and NEVER know why. Show us WHY they're together before breaking them up, at least!

Ariadne- 07-28-2008

Thirteen's illness... what's right about Chase and Cameron... Thirteen's illness.... what's right about Chase and Cameron.... Thirteen..... Bring on the Chase and Cameron! Seriously though, they've been in a relationship for a year and a half by now. It's time to see something of it. Poor Foreman. They keep emphasizing how much like House he is but the minute he tries to actually work like House (Deception, Failure to Communicate, Housesitting, Mercy Hospital) or do House's job (NMMNG) they smack him and show how inadequate he is.

Taiga- 07-28-2008

(points to above post) What you said. I'm looking forward to getting a day in the life of the (fictional) prettiest couple in New Jersey. "Not Cancer?" So who's going to be saying that, House or Wilson? I really hope we don't get an ep where patient care is compromised because of their feud.

It would really be a let down IMO to know that Chase and Cameron were together for a year and a half in a real relationship and NEVER know why. Show us WHY they're together before breaking them up, at least! Exactly. I'd have an easier time accepting a breakup between them if we saw anything of their relationship prior to it. Since we haven't, I think it would be ridiculous to have them breakup in the first episode that actually focuses on them and their relationship. "Not Cancer?" So who's going to be saying that, House or Wilson? I really hope we don't get an ep where patient care is compromised because of their feud. Maybe House thinks it's cancer and really tries to push the idea in an effort to get Wilson's attention, or to keep him from resigning, or just to get him engaged in something at PPTH. I agree though, that I would hate to see a patient suffer because they're fighting. I'd like to believe that Wilson wouldn't let that happen but he's probably not thinking clearly and House is probably desperate, so who knows.

I thought they showed that Foreman was mirroring House's personality, but that didn't mean he had House's diagnostic skills while Chase was growing in leaps and bounds as a diagnostician while not mirroring House's personality. To me, Chase and Foreman together showed that you didn't have to be a jerk to be brilliant--House really is a unique combo of jerk and brilliance And it seemed Chase and Cameron where both able to get jobs elsewhere despite being protégées of House proving that doesn’t have to be the kiss of death. Unless you pull a self fulfilling prophecy of putting yourself above the patients and compound it by acting as if the rules don’t apply to you. I'm glad for a C/C episode. I like the idea of their relationship from the little we’ve seen and the growth they have each had separately. It will be good to see them together working and as a couple. I just wouldn’t hold my breath that it’s going to be anything that we’ll get on a regular basis. For that reason, if you have a pull to it, #6 should probably be savored. Poor Foreman. They keep emphasizing how much like House he is but the minute he tries to actually work like House (Deception, Failure to Communicate, Housesitting, Mercy Hospital) or do House's job (NMMNG) they smack him and show how inadequate he is. Foreman had his moment of success, and it was just a moment, in WIT. Foreman still has to find a way of bring together the pertinent strands he possesses so he can become the kind of doctor he’s capable of but leave all his bullshit behind. That may be the only story left for him. Considering everything else the show has on the simmer it may take 3 seasons to get him through it. Not Cancer?" So who's going to be saying that, House or Wilson? I really hope we don't get an ep where patient care is compromised because of their feud Since it obviously refers to Wilson and in the past it’s typically been his line in consults for House, almost to the point of it being a joke early on, I imagine it will be his again here. It seems to indicate that House will use the consult, likely numerous consults, as a way of speaking to Wilson, getting Wilson to speak to him and at those times trying to get Wilson to stay or if he’s already gone to come back. The abbreviation from the ususal "It's not Cancer." to the terse "Not Cancer." could indicate Wilson's shortness now in dealing with House. House knows how important Wilson's job has been to him, perhaps this is part of his devious plan. Or at least a first attempt at one. If he can't appeal to Wilson on a personal basis try a professional one. House isn’t the only doctor working on Diagnostic patients. The new team and Foreman should be able to care for the TPOW properly without any compromise even if House is a bit distracted. Heck they better get some practice in he’ll be gone on the road trip too. Ultimately House may use the patient’s plight and puzzle to distract him from his Wilson problem.

Ariadne- 07-28-2008

House may use the patient to distract him or he may use the patient to tempt Wilson back given the question mark in the title. In Fools for Love, he took X-rays to Wilson knowing full well what Wilson was going to say as an excuse to dissuade him from Wendy. I don't know how good the job-getting success of Chase and Cameron is since they also ended up being hired back by Cuddy. (Has visions of PPTH populated by former House fellows who can't get jobs elsewhere.) Foreman was right about the diagnosis in WIT (dehydration) but failed badly in the keeping discipline department. The only story he's ever had was his arrogance about thinking he's better than House and finding out he's not and it seems endless. Maybe if they gave him another story people would find him more exciting. I'm speculating that House sort of mend fences with Wilson in Not Cancer? and then it's solidified in their road trip where they get a chance to seriously talk. I was thinking of who I want to write these episodes. Doris Egan for the House/Wilson road trip of course and Liz Friedman for the Chase/Cameron episode since she's one of the few writers who has written them both sympathetically. (Some of the other writers have written one or the other well but not both.) Is Laurence Kaplow back next season? Maybe he'll do one of the first two since he does like House/Wilson.

Well Chase did say he didn't want to spend all his time with Cameron and with Chase's HAM suspicions, there may be a little drama behind that which might prove interesting. Licia, I didn't see your post before I responded to Dee's but you said it much better than me. It would be interesting to learn what they're getting out of the relationship.

filex1410- 07-28-2008

House may use the patient to distract him or he may use the patient to tempt Wilson back. Likely both, first the latter, then the former. I think House will be successful only with the patient helping to distract him. ...given the question mark in the title. Spoiler TV doesn't have a question mark in the title. I think that got added in the thread here by accident. I don't know how good the job-getting success of Chase and Cameron is since they also ended up being hired back by Cuddy. Of course they did. Only Foreman actually wanted to leave House and PPTH. Chase was fired from House's dept. and Cameron quit in solidarity. Natural for Cuddy to want to retain all three of them. The hospital spent time and money training them she would prefer to keep their talents at her hospital than to lose them to another facility so she went out and got all three back. Promoting C/C (in a unbelievable manner but TPTB will have their way  ) and sticking the one who willing left more or less back to where he was before. Lesson to be learned. Foreman was right about the diagnosis in WIT (dehydration) but failed badly in the keeping discipline department. The only story he's ever had was his arrogance about thinking he's better than House and finding out he's not and it seems endless. Maybe if they gave him another story people would find him more exciting. I highly doubt it. Escaped difficult background and early criminal behavior through hard work, suspicious of others who come from a similar experience, almost dies from an undiagnosed disease, suffers and recovers from temporary brain trauma, estranged from his imprisoned brother, difficult relationship with his father, rejects a relationship with a woman who cares for him, his mother suffers from Alzheimer, fearing he's losing his humanity quits his fellowship, etc... As stories go Foreman has had his fair shake and then some, his time has come and gone. All he can do now is grow up and try to fulfill all that potential so he doesn’t have to be content with babysitting House and each successive wave of newbies until he's a little old duckling. Maybe to make OE happy he'll also get one more shot at romance further down the line.

deelaundry- 07-29-2008

And it seemed Chase and Cameron where both able to get jobs elsewhere despite being protégées of House proving that doesn’t have to be the kiss of death. I'm pretty sure they didn't get jobs elsewhere. Wilson lied about Chase and Cameron being in Arizona. I think them having other jobs was part of that lie. On a different subject, it'll be interesting to see what they do with the House-Thirteen mentor relationship they've been talking about.
