Or use Tyra's complaint - not fierce enough?! i waiver between tyra and heidi, but i think i gotta go with heidi. it's very to the point. plus, remember the original script for "three stories"? house's ideal woman might have been carmen electra on screen, but on paper it was heidi klum. {g}

I don't watch reality tv for a reason. :x I hate reality TV with a passion, too, and can proudly say that I've never watched an episode of reality TV all the way through. (At least not anything from, say, 1998 on. I did catch a few eps of "The Real World" back in the early days.) But I am interested to see what approach "House" takes to it--whether it's a long-running joke, a passing reference, an absolute procedure, etc. As much as I bitched about the concept, the episode of The X-Files that they did in Cops style was hysterical, brilliant and one of my all time favorites, far more revealing about the characters I loved than the inspiration genre.

I enjoyed my fair share of reality tv back in the day of cops and Road Rules. But that was when reality was new and nifty and MTV still played music videos. I was away from most US tv and the US itself for several years and when I returned, I discovered a culture obsessed. The people I went to graduate school with were obsessed with being on The Bachelor... or Survivor... or whatever. Eck! Which is why House poking fun at these shows could be quality entertainment.

As much as I bitched about the concept, the episode of The X-Files that they did in Cops style was hysterical, brilliant and one of my all time favorites, far more revealing about the characters I loved than the inspiration genre. that episode turned out to be fantastic. i loved it. but, i love it when shows do things like that and mix things up for the very occasional episode. i like seeing a "scrubs" musical and an XF "cops" episode or an episode dedicated to the tertiary characters. i loved "three stories" and "no reason" and "the mistake" because the broke up the formula. i love shows to primarily be their own show, but i like for them to occasionally try something different. not that i imagine that this season of "house" will be starting off feeling that much different save for the cast being shuffled around. i do hope for at least one "special" episode that breaks out of their little "house" mold. although maybe this whole hallucinating the fellows thing will fit into that a bit. i dunno. I enjoyed my fair share of reality tv back in the day of cops and Road Rules. But that was when reality was new and nifty and MTV still played music videos. reality television really wasn't new then, there just weren't as many channels out there to run it. that's the thing: tv moves in cycles, but now that there are 12,000 channels out there with specialty networks popping up for every conceivable subject then reality is here constantly. and DIY shows. and documentaries and crime shows, etc. the only thing we don't have much of these days are sitcoms. i don't have a problem with reality as a genre. or sitcoms or dramas or animated series or news magazines or much of anything else. i like any television that is well done. there's a lot of crap in reality. there's well produced stuff as well. there are shitty sitcoms and amazing sitcoms. unbelievably bad dramas and shows i would be happy to watch forever. I was away from most US tv and the US itself for several years and when I returned, I discovered a culture obsessed. what's funny is that we jumped no the band wagon after other countries brought back reality television in a big way. ditto on game shows which, it seems, have made another comeback now for some reason. all in all, though, i agree with marykir: we've talked about it far more than it will actually be a part of the show. at least specifically. overall, it'll just be house's asshole way of hiring new fellows. it wouldn't surprise me if they mostly used references to particular reality shows rather than actually call them out. but, again, even then it's totally in character for "house", so it doesn't bug me at all.

Are Survivor and House on the same network? If so I don't think they'll get into too much trouble. Survivor is on CBS

Jouse- 09-11-2007

House and his two strongest personal connections (aside from Stacy) are Wilson and Cuddy That would be Wilson, and far far behind, Cuddy. And I'm not "worried" about her, KJ seems determent to hoist the Cuddy dosage way up next season, so I guess she, too, will be trampling over Wilson's time. No, it's not an optimistic day.

I actually like the idea of House playing with reality TV tropes to whittle down the candidates. It sounds funny as all get out, and I don't watch Survivor or the Bachelor. (I do, however, totally heart Project Runway, and if House aufs somebody, I will totally squee.) We also know it goes with House's love of trashy pop culture.

I'm also not a big fan of reality tv, but I enjoyed the X-Files episode, too. And, I agree with others who don't imagine that the Survivor thing will really take up that much time on the show. We also know it goes with House's love of trashy pop culture. True. This is exactly something House would do.

Found this on TVGUIDE.COM, the episode description for "Alone" House is working solo (with some diagnostic help from a hospital janitor) as Season 4 begins. While Cuddy and Wilson nag him to hire a new team, he must treat a young woman who was injured in an explosion. But her injuries aren't what's killing her. Indeed, her repeated crises, each of which House treats successfully, seem to be caused by personal behaviors that baffle her boyfriend. Meanwhile, House's new prized possession, a 1967 Gibson Flying V guitar, is missing. Who wants to bet that Wilson's hitting him where it hurts is that he steals the guitar?? And House ends up in Wilson's hotel room hunting for it? Maybe the "bring it on" is in response to Wilson saying "you get the guitar if you hire the team" & that's why House keeps carting it around with him, its to stop Wilson getting his grubby paws on it again! Hey, its a theory, it works! (Or maybe Wilson just wants House to serenade him on the balcony ;D)

Anticipating the opening episodes of the new season has me extraordinarily pumped up this time around: House alone should give us plenty of good angst along with the funny; the elimination games with the candidates will not be overwhelming and will provides plenty of great moments; more Wilson; lots more Cuddy; little to no CCF; a dollop of befuddled Janitor on the side! All good news from my vantage point. Are we there yet?

misere- 09-12-2007

The site that shall not be named has some incredibly detailed spoilers that sound perfectly legitimate. Should we link or quote? I'm unsure of the protocol. ETA: link

saara_zaara- 09-12-2007

I think its appropriate to link, misere, here & on the spoilers only thread if you would be so good. I started reading those myself & yes, they are incredibly detailed - and if anyone doesn't want to know exactly how the episode resolves they should avoid reading.

Namaste- 09-12-2007

and if anyone doesn't want to know exactly how the episode resolves they should avoid reading. And with that, I'm backing away. I don't mind TV Guide level spoilers, but once the details come out, I'm gone. Maybe I should start a "Spoiler Free" thread for people (surely there are one or two more) who want to be surprised?
