So if that's these new people, then... bleh. I just don't care about them.
I agree. I know House worked closely with his team but to me they were just there to help him solve the case. Don't get me wrong learning new things about them was fun and interesting but by and large that info. about them didn't really affect House.

One note on the dark haired woman that he can't figure out, is it just me or does that just sound like a new Cameron? Ugh
It does, however I'm heartened that the actress playing the character (Thirteen) is, I believe, significantly younger than JMo & I think the character may be too (I forget where I read that). I do think they are trying a re-tread of Cameron without all the negatives that they (deliberately/inadvertently) built into her character & part of it is by casting her younger there's less possibility of romantic interactions, but maybe more of mentor/mentee, but they are also reserving judgment on whether they are going to be successful this go around.
I remember that at the end of s3 there was a (National Enquirer?) press report about TPTB doing some kind of viewer feedback analysis on the characters. I'm not sure about the level of truth there, but it wouldn't surprise me that they did in fact do these & that the results gave them both incredibly high positives on the kids but also really high negatives on Cameron (& possibly the others).
I'm really surprised that they are admitting they don't know where they are going with the new characters - play up the suspense by all means, but it really feels like they are aiming for a popularity contest & that they don't completely trust their own judgment/audience reaction (they may have also been very surprised by the really high positives on the kids).
I'm going to reserve judgment for now on the newbies, & to be frank the only one of the original kids I care about is Chase anyway, so as long as I get some of him I'll deal.

Out of the kids I only care about Chase too. I'm going to try and reserve judgement but I have a very obsessive mind and a very pessimistic attitude towards everything so it's probably not going to work out.
*focus on the Wilsony goodness in the first ep.* (hopefully)

I do care about Cameron and Foreman, but the only one that I tune in for is Chase. If Cameron or Foreman were gone, I wouldn't stop watching. If Chase were gone, I'd lose interest. I would actually like LESS Cameron and Foreman and MORE Chase. It's been a couple of months and I'm still sick of the Foreman drama. The last thing I want is to watch some arc play out where House has to go begging Foreman to come back. Foreman is the worst diagnostician of the bunch and he should fail miserably heading his own team.

I may be reading to much into that interview from buzzsugar that OE did recently, but I think he's going to. I'm also looking forward to the idea that its Cuddy that hires Chase back - maybe to introduce some sanity & route patients that House won't take to Chase? And may we'll get some follow up to their implied interactions in Forever. Though how they get Cameron back into another department is beyond me.

We still don't know so much about the fellows because TPTB were playing coy with us for three years, which is the only thing that makes me resentful about the abrupt shake-up. Other than that, I trust them implicitly, because my favorite characters are the core ones that are left (Cuddy, Wilson, House) and the production crew and writing staff of "House" are so damn good that if anyone can pull it off and maintain the quality of what I see as the best show on television, it is this group of people.
But some of the unresolved "issuez" with the fellows include:
Cameron's Weight Issues and Love of Fat People ("Heavy", "Que Sera Sera")
Cameron's Baby Issues ("Maternity", "Babies and Bathwater")
Chase's Hatred of Fat People ("Heavy", "Que Sera Sera")
Chase getting left out of Daddy's will (why?!)
Chase's questionable sexual history (this isn't just fanon-- see "Hunting" and "Love Hurts")
Foreman's history, which has never at all been explained-- how he got from Car Thief to Flashy Doctor-- what turned his life around? And what about that gang tattoo from "Acceptance"?
Foreman's Commitment Issuez

I'm not surprised that they are admitting they don't know where they are going with the new characters, but that doesn't mean that they don't trust their own judgment. It just means they don't have enough information at the present time to actually make definitive decisions.
I think it's accurate to say that the Survivor-theme isn't just taking place on screen. It's happening backstage. It's impossible to know just how each actor and character will click with the rest of the cast and the audience. So they may already have some ideas about which actors and characters are more viable in the future, but everything can be thrown out the window if the chemistry isn't there. And that's as it should be.

IIRC it was Death Row Guy who suggested that the tattoo was gang-related; Foreman said that the tattoo on his hand was a Native American symbol that meant "circle of life." My guess is that that's what Omar's tattoo really is (sounds like him, he seems somewhat spiritually-oriented in interviews), and that the same is true for also canon.
And I always assumed re: what turned his life around was getting caught, though it hasn't been stated explicitly, of course.

I am so fucking glad I'm not an actor.
I'm starting to remember why I try to de-spoiler whore myself once the season actually starts. I've crossed from ZOMG!H/W 4EVA!PIKCHAS of TEH PRITTY into angst and fear of change re: the new fellows. Must . . . wean self . . . from spoilers. *gah*

Well, number one I don't think Omar Epps actually has a tattoo there, I think it really was a character thing (i.e., the makeup department put it there), and number two, the scene actually goes something like this:
Inmate: You got some gang in you?
Foreman: It's a Native American symbol.
Inmate: That what you tell these white people to keep them off your back?
Or something like that. The implications are that Foreman's lying about it being a Native American symbol or about it not being gang-related.

Chase's Hatred of Fat People ("Heavy", "Que Sera Sera")
I don't think is unresolved. Or, I guess, I don't think this needs resolution. I think it was subtley tied in with Chase's issues with alcoholics. Even though he's a doctor and knows better, because of his personal family issues there's a part of him that irrationally thinks less of people whom he thinks bring their medical problems on themselves. Obese people, drug addicts, alcoholics, etc. He isn't hateful towards them so much as he's disinterested because why treat someone who is doing it all to themselves? I don't think Chase had a problem with fat people in the sense that he hates them in some way.
I'm not surprised that they are admitting they don't know where they are going with the new characters, but that doesn't mean that they don't trust their own judgment. It just means they don't have enough information at the present time to actually make definitive decisions.
I'm actually really happy to hear that, at least as far as what they're telling us publicly, they aren't marrying themselves to any one or two people as far as already knowing who is going to get regular status. If they feel they need regulars, working it out as they go along puts me at ease. The show doesn't need to get crowded, but it really doesn't need to get crowded with people who have no chemistry or people who don't fit or people who are just incapable of playing the role as it's been written. I don't have any issues with Olivia, Kal or Peter based on other things I've seen them in, but they could end up totally stinking up the show. I like that they're going to write the first arc and then see how things are going.

I kinda like the idea too, amysusanne. I think of other shows where the characters were supposed to be there for a short amount of time and the actors clicked and became regulars - a couple examples right off the top of my head: Jack from Lost, Addison from Grey's Anatomy and my most favoritest evah, Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who.
Maybe there will be someone out of that 40 who will knock our socks off and have insane chemistry with the cast. Wouldn't that be nice?
Bonus points if it's a hot male doctor who starts macking on Wilson, much to House's chagrin. Jealous!House hijinks ensue. :-)

That's a good point. Plus I like the fact that they aren't pimping any of these new people out as the next best thing. No overly aggressive promo campaigns or anything like that, like I've seen other shows do with new characters. The promo pics were all of the original gang.

(ALMOST)I don't like Chase.
When it comes to the new crowd I'm kind of selfish. As long as Wilson & Cuddy's screentime isn't affected then I probably won't mind them too much, unless they are overly irritating. If Wilson & Cuddy (but especially Wilson) start losing screentime then I'm going to hate the new ducklings with the fiery hatred of a million suns, no matter how entertaining or likable they are.

I don't know if anyone remembers me posting this at the site that shall not be named, but I don't think that Kal Penn is going to be one of the newbies that stays. Apparently he's committed to teaching a spring '08 course at the University of Pennsylvania (or is that Penn State; I can't remember).
