Reaction to 'Adverse Events': Wilson vs the P.I.
Yes, I like polls. Ban me. But this is something I'm really curious to know the majority opinion on. We've had episodes without Chase, Cameron and Foreman, and 'House vs God' pretty much counts as a Cuddy-free episode. This is the first episode without Wilson. Did you miss him? Did you feel the way you expect to feel about a Wilson-free episode? Was the P.I. an acceptable substitute, or do you actually like him better than Wilson?

It took me a while to realize that Wilson wasn't there (conversely, it takes me a while to notice when any character isn't there). But I do miss him, and I do miss the H/W relationship. I only hope that whatever Wilson was doing outside the scope of House's reach was leading him towards happiness and healthiness.

The episode was more enjoyable for me because we didn't have H/W angst to bring us down. He can stay away for a while as far as I'm concerned.

I like Wilson a lot at times and occasionally really dislike him. For the most part he's fine, but I'm happy to get a break from him, especially his "you're miserable" and"you're lucky" speeches. I could definitely do without those permanently and still enjoy the character. Stopping the enabling would also help. The PI's ok for a while, but he really doesn't fit in House's world.

I enjoyed Wilson a lot during the second half of Season 4 - and I've enjoyed lots of the H/W banter over the years. Have never cared for Wilson's moralizing and hectoring. I'm willing to give the man some time off to heal. But I would miss him were he gone for good. Do not, so far, like PI enough to think of him as House's new best friend.

Fetal Position pretty much counts as a Wilson-free episode for me.

More depressing than any rift is his absence.
I found out that if, one day, he really goes away, I have no interest in House at all. He is just an ordinary character for me. And that's depressing!

I missed him. I didn't except to see him but I still missed him.

I didn't really miss him, and I was actually surprised to read that he has been in every episode so far.
Wilson is not really that important to me, except as a sparring partner for House. I must say I prefer the PI as a character, but I find the interaction between House and Wilson more interesting.

I was surprised that I didn't miss him in this ep, because I've missed him in other Wilson-lite eps, like "Guardian Angels." But if we had more than one Wilson-free or Wilson-lite eps in a row, I know I'd get very grumpy.
I was also surprised that I didn't have a more visceral reaction to Wilson's name not even being uttered in this ep. House spent all of the previous episode thinking about Wilson and missing Wilson, and by the end I didn't sense that any of House's feelings were resolved. Yet in this ep -- which is supposedly one week later, right? -- he doesn't mention Wilson even once? Not even in passing?
That "turn on a dime" is odd, and is one of my least favorite things about how the show is written. They take dramatic, unrealistic shortcuts from one emotional state to the next.

I think the episode was designed to make us miss Wilson a little.
Not mentioning him made sense to me -- the more important something is to House, the less likely he is to share his feelings with others about it. He was staring out his window at Wilson's office and wasn't there a shot of him sitting on the floor in the empty office, thinking?

The empty office shot was last week (ep. 2). I didn't pick up on House staring at Wilson's office, and you know how much I'm into the subtext.
If they wanted viewers to miss Wilson, I would've thought they'd mention his name at least once. Foreman: "Hey, what's with the casserole?" Cameron: "Taking it to Wilson." Foreman: "Tell him I said hi." Or something. *shrug*

It was just the wrong subtext -- not HoYay. In the scene when House is waiting in his office for Taub to call in from the warehouse where the paintings are, he's staring out the window and looking to the left -- the balcony and Wilson's office.

Maybe that was the intention - and I really want to believe it was - but I had the feeling that it didn't work that way. I picked up House's stare, but it was so quick that I was unsure if it was supposed to imply how much he misses Wilson - they could have shown the balcony, for instance - or if he was just, well, looking outside the window. If they intended any kind of subtext, they failed (IMO).

Wilson can stay away as far as I'm concerned. I've never cared for the character much and I like the acting even less.
