Poll: What will Cuddy name the baby? Please elaborate on your vote below if desired. And please keep this poll spoiler-free. If you happen to have inside information on the baby's name, feel free to vote, but please don't spoil us!
Have fun.
I voted for Natalie, and I think Cuddy might give her the middle name Joy. Cuddy loves the name Joy but I think she would feel weird giving it to Baby 2.0 as a first name after what happened with the original Joy. Natalie honors the birth mom and fits a Christmastime baby.
Oh, and for those wondering about "Kaygreg" -- just a little shout-out to my friends from the house_mst comm.

Bless you for including "kaygreg" - I still howl every time I think of that story. Damn, does anyone have the link to the story or the MST? It's a classic!

I voted "other" because I think both Natalie and Joy would sadden Cuddy each time she heard those names. So something else.
I flirted with two for fun:
Madeleine because I like the sound of Maddy Cuddy (not in real life, but for fun).
and, more seriously,
Renata, Latin for "reborn" acknolwedges her origin but a bit more positive.
At the end of the show, perhaps Renata Joy House. Yeah, that has a ring to it. ;->
Hey, I voted for Kaygreg. "The Sue Who Really Wasn't" is on my list of Desert Island Fics. Although, under the circumstances, I guess it should be LisaGreg or LiGreg.

I think Joy will always be the baby she lost, and that Natalie would be too painful a reminder. Maybe it could be a middle name. I voted for an Old Testamant name because that's what I want and it's all about me. Rebecca, Naomi, Sarah, etc. (Rachel is Taub's wife's name so maybe that's out.)

KAYGREG!

I voted "other," though I don't really have a specific name. I wouldn't be surprised to find "Natalie" as a middle name, but I don't think she'd go with a specific Jewish name just because neither her own name nor the name "Joy" were/are specifically Jewish.
Actually as long as they name the kid, I'll be fine. We've already got PDH for Cameron's unnamed husband and LLB for Wilson's brother. Last thing fandom needs is another acronym.

CTB for "Cuddy's Tiny Baby"? Oh, no, that acronym's already taken

I see Cuddy as having a sentimental streak and wanting to choose a name that has meaning on some level. I think she chose Joy for the first baby she was going to adopt because it would bring her great joy.
Assuming she doesn't want to name this one Joy 2.0, I think her next choice would be another name that resonated with her on an emotional level. That's why I included the Jewish options; even though she isn't devout, I can see her wanting to reach back into her heritage for a name, especially an old-school name that perhaps belonged to her mom or a beloved grandmother or aunt. Or "Natalie" for the dual reason of honoring the birth mom and commemorating the season.
Of course, I may be projecting. I don't have kids but I love the idea of giving children names that reflect the people and/or values important to the parents, rather than just sounding good. My favorite RL example is my friends who named their son Isaac, because they had been trying to conceive for years, and like the parents of the biblical Isaac, had given up, so this baby was both a pleasant surprise and a miracle. And in my recently completed Daddy!House fic, House has a son named Gregory James and a granddaughter named Cameron Blythe.
BTW, in that same fic, I gave Cuddy a daughter adopted from China (this was written before season 5) named Amanda Mei-Ling Cuddy, and a grandson named Isaac.
Sorry for the long-winded threadjack -- if it is possible to threadjack one's own thread!
ETA: I love that Natalie is tied with Kaygreg! :D

I'm sticking with Swee'Pea as Cuddy's baby name....because her method of procuring it was just so laughably unbelievable. Either that or Nathan Arizona, Jr-Cuddy.
Taiga- 12-11-2008
Nathan Arizona Junior! It even ties in the kidnapping angle!
Kick me if I'm wrong but I read once that it's Jewish tradition to name children after recently deceased relatives - is that right? Or maybe it's not "Jewish" but particular to one Jewish ethnic group?

I voted for the name Nathalie chose, because that would be the decent thing to do, but I really like Irene, for many reasons...

As it was explained to me by my Jewish ex-husband, Ashkenazi Jews do not name their children after living loved ones, only those who have passed. He says there is a quasi-superstitious element in this tradition: If you name your baby after your living Great-Aunt Naomi, when the Grim Reaper comes for Great-Aunt Naomi, you don't want him to slip up and grab Baby Naomi instead. Sephardic Jews, he says, have no such tradition.
This doesn't mean Ashkenazim are *required* to give their children the names of dead loved ones, just that they are discouraged from giving them the names of living ones. His son with his second wife has a first name that isn't "after" anyone, and a middle name that comes from my ex's deceased grandmother. Ex wanted to use his brother's name as his son's middle name, then he remembered that "we don't name after the living" tradition.
Grandma's name was Eva. Kid's middle name is Evan ... same as Wilson's!
"Irene" -- I like it, even without that whole Sherlockian thing in "Joy to the World." It's one of those old-fashioned names that's due for a comeback. And "Good Night Irene" makes a great lullaby if you don't listen too closely to the verses.
