I'm going to echo what Poeia says here sherlock. Most of the mods are running HHoW on Firefox and have downloaded a plugin called "AdBlock Plus." Wonderful tool. Otherwise, I also spoke to my fiance who does network security. He says that it sounds like a problem with a setting within your Internet Explorer or operating system. However, he also suggested using Firefox as well (and I'll add in that ad blocker). Another thing that can help is to delete your cookies for HHoW (or your cookies in general) and dump your cache and history. This seems to be one of those fixes that just always works. There could be some old version of the page in your cache causing problems. If you still have problems after that, feel free to PM me.

There could be some old version of the page in your cache causing problems. If you still have problems after that, feel free to PM me. It only happens on HHoW (which, of course, I'm on ALL the time!), and I use Firefox. Damn. Just did it again. Excuse me while I enlarge the text so I can read what I'm typing. I'll kill the (crap!) cookies and try the AdBlock Plus. Any suggestions on where I find the plugin? (grrrrr!) You can't begin to imagine how annoying this is. And it's not (nuts!) regular -- it doesn't seem to happ(shit)en at regular intervals of time, or after I've typed a reg(GDammit!)ular number of of char(now I'm getting annoyed!)acters. I've tried not touching the keyboard -- still does it. (And again with the shrinking!) (what? two in a row?) (make that three!!!!) And no ot(this is getting ridiculous)her site. (Now it's shrunk even smaller -- before I even had time to enlarge it again). Off to try the cookie thing. Thanks for the suggestions. (Great! Now it's jumping two sizes!)

AdBlock Plus I'm on a Mac, you might need to search again to make sure you get the right version. The other essential Plug-Ins or Add-Ons, as far as I'm concerned are Web of Trust (when you do a search, it tells you if a website is a potential hazard) and Download Helper (makes it easy to save videos from YouTube, etc.)

And if P's link doesn't work, follow this in Firefox: Tools -> Add-Ons -> Get Add-Ons You can do a search from there for Adblock Plus or Browse All Add-Ons. For me, because I use it, The boy recommonds the following: changing your antivirus software to Avast and also installing either SpyBot or SpyNuker. If you can get ahold of it, Error Expert. This will go through your registry and repair problems in it if it's able to be repaired. Otherwise, PM me and I can get you in contact with him. He thinks it's that, otherwise, you can also try adding in the Adblock Plus. I happen to use these combinations now since this summer and it's great. Just, allow some time for the Avast to go through and do a startup scan after you install it. It might take awhile, but it's worth the time.

I'm sorry to report that I've tried as many of the above as I could figure out how to do and my HHoW pages continue to be the Adventures of the Amazing Shrinking Webpage. Sigh. Maybe I'll just (see? it just happened again) learn to live with it.

Argh. This is so weird and frustrating. We'll keep trying to think of solutions for you.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post. If there's a page that explains how to use the search program, please let me know. As the movie Street Kings is coming to Japan finally in Feb, I wanted to check some discussions on the film. I used "search", and found a long list of the posts as the risult...fine, but then, I just couldn't figure how to jump to the pages where the posts are...:( Isn't there a clever way to go to the previous pages in an instant, or am I missing something?

kittylugnut- 01-04-2009

There's a little box somewhere on the search page to choose between "display topics" and "display posts" or something like that. If you check "display posts" it will take you directly to the posts. It took me months and months to find that, but when I finally did it made things MUCH easier.

zumi- 01-04-2009

Thank you kittylugnut! I changed the setting from the "topic" to the "posts", and the characters of posts from "first 200" to "all available". Now I don't have to go back to the previous pages to read the whole post. :)

Many of us also use Google to search within HHoW. Enter in the search window the following: site:houseofwhining.com "Street Kings" That should give you every page here at HHoW with the term "Street Kings" on it.

WOW  I didn't know that! Thank you, arizonamyrie, it works great.

Is anyone else having trouble logging in from Windows Vista? We have a member here who can log into this site from XP at work without a problem, but at home, on Vista, it's a no go. She's not having trouble logging in to other sites such as Twitter - just HHoW. We're looking into it, but any suggestions (or reports of others with the same issue) are appreciated.

amysusanne- 01-15-2009

I'm not having trouble logging in, but everything is very, very slow and posting it taking forever. I just came here to see if there might be a software issue or if it was just my computer acting up. Nothing else is slow, just HHOW. Which I realize is probably totally unrelated to their problem, but, you know...

extra_cat- 01-15-2009

It's not your computer/connection. The board is having some issues. Fingers crossed, the server will correct itself soon.

Spoiler in the ratings thread.
