I've got a question/comment about something that was also mentioned on, I believe, the episode thread by another poster. Namely ... can we require worksafe icons? If you are using FireFox, you can set things up to block images from houseofwhining.com and no avatars will show. Well, if someone was using a remote image, that might show up. I'm not sure. But the local ones are definitely blocked. One disadvantage is that smilies disappear too, but if you're really worried about an unsafe image, blocking will do the trick. edit: maybe that's not such a good suggestion after all. The "edit", "quote", "delete", etc. buttons disappear too :)

It's fixed so there are aren't any risky icons so every thread is work safe and the boss won't get narky.

Thanks folks. My head isn't quite big enough to block my screen.

Wiggle it. But yes we realise that this site can be viewed all over the place by anyone and we want to make sure it doesn't get anyone out of whack.

Thanks folks. My head isn't quite big enough to block my screen. Big hats are the answer.

radiosweetheart- 11-01-2007

Big hair! That's the ticket! Why does no one wear Mall Hair anymore? And spandex leggings with baggy t-shirts? It's like no one has even a lick of fashion sense anymore.

Namaste- 11-01-2007

Big hats are the answer. Picture me shuddering right now at the sudden thought of the Red Hat Ladies and their big hats. They're a cult, I tell you, a cult. (Or are they only a cult here in the US?) But at least you can see the mob of red hats coming toward you at events and know to run the other way way.

I don't know if I'd call it a "serious" problem, but I know that in one thread people were asked to stop using colored fonts. It now seems to be creeping into other threads as well. Maybe it's just me, but it's kind of annoying because they're harder to read and also look like they should be clickable links.

arizonamyrie- 11-20-2007

Namaste, I'll bring this up to the other mods and we'll do something. Which threads are you noticing them in the most?

Namaste- 11-20-2007

Most recently it popped up in the spoiler discussion (the small pink font had me squinting at the monitor) thread and Hugh Laurie threads, but I've seen it other places as well. (I think there was a mod request to stop using colored fonts in the House/Wilson shipper thread, but I could be mistaken.)

arizonamyrie- 11-20-2007

There was one in the House/Wilson thread that another mod had commented on. Thank you Namaste. I found one in the Hugh Laurie thread, and I'm looking for the others.

Namaste- 11-20-2007

Thanks.

I don't know about "serious," but is it OK to launch a thread in the Housebound no more area for 'net time wasters and other work-safe stuff in which those of us who are office rats can find some fun places to waste time while looking like we're working? Viral videos, funny blogs, etc.? (Such as the AV Club's New Year's resolution to stop using the word: Meh But as an interjection into a discussion, “meh” encapsulates a lot of what’s wrong with on-line discourse. What it really expresses is this: “I have no strong opinion about what the rest of you are discussing, and none of you know who I am anyway, but I’ve got 10 seconds to spare and I like to type.” and the ensuing discussion on other stuff to ban.

Hey Namaste - I'm taking your request back to the other mods to see what they think. Will let you know.

houserocket7- 01-07-2008

Hey Namaste - I'm taking your request back to the other mods to see what they think. Will let you know. Any chance of getting a Stepehn Fry thread? The decision to warn me about talking about Stephen on the Hugh Laurie, the Actor, was the very reason I left that other place that will not be named
