Oh, okay, I think I get it.... And I do indulge in the Foreman bashing myself, so who am I to complain? Thanks for the quick reply!

DIY Sheep- 10-24-2007

I love Foreman bashing too, but I wouldn't try it in the Foreman thread. Everyone respects everyone's different character favourites and shipping preferences and we have threads where people can indulge in their favourites. The only thing we ask is that if you are - say - a rabid anti H/W person tread carefully and respectfully in the H/W thread and the same goes for any character or ship you might not agree with. But if you ever feel another poster is seriously attacking either you or anyone else on a personal level please don't hesitate to contact us. Thanks

Question
I just noticed what I would consider to be an inappropriate reply to a mod's edit comments in the 'spoilers-only' thread. I can understand being upset about a mod's reprimand, but to publicly call the mod a '-----'...is that cool? You guys put up with that?? It doesn't matter that it turned out to be a misunderstanding, no member of this forum should talk to a mod or admin openly (outside of the pm system) in such a manner. Just my opinion, of course. I guess some people are more 'special' than others.

Evil Nurse Brenda- 10-26-2007

That was a misunderstanding. The poster mistakenly thought the Evil Nurse Brenda edit which removed spoiler discussion was from a member saying her spoiler was discussion. Nevertheless, we don't allow personal attacks on anyone on this site and the insult has been removed (as it has been from your note.) And while we don't consider some posters more special than others (do you think the tone of that comment was less offensive than the insult you were reporting), this site is staffed by volunteers who are not able to be on the site 24 hours a day. We correct problems as soon as we can.

I'm receiving a message that said that I have to authenticate myself, even after I made the log in. It makes the navigation a little difficult. Any one else has this problem? ETA: Never mind. The problem seems solved. :)

It did appear that way, however, at first, and that is why I made my comment, which I do retract.

I'm glad to know that you don't consider some members here to be more 'special' than others, and the way you have handled this indicates that is true. We moderators might not always act quickly, but we do act together as a team behind the scenes and the result of that work is what you see posted, either singly or as Evil Nurse Brenda. Almost every decision is made as a group and if it isn't, there are at least two or three moderators involved and discussions are made afterwards. The moderating team represents two hemispheres, three continents, five time zones, and countless backgrounds and experiences. HHoW is truly a "work in progress" in that the policies are ever-evolving. New problems come up everyday, and everyday we discuss them together. As we grow we evolve to fit the needs of the people posting at our board (if you only read, please join!). As we grow, we also learn how to run HHoW better. It did appear that way, however, at first, and that is why I made my comment, which I do retract. And we welcome this. About two weeks ago we had an incident that helped us to evolve our rules to add in personal attacks and discrimination, not just on the boards but in private messages as well. Should anyone here feel that something is inappropriate, please either comment here or PM a moderator who is online at the time. If you go to the main page of HHoW you can just click on one of the green or gold colored names and you will get that person's profile from there. And after that, it's just like the most basic e-mail. In either case, please include the URL of your current page and/or the message.

Okay - this probably isn't the place :ban: , but I just feel I need to say this: I think that all the moderators here, on this fast-growing, very busy Forum, with like 1563 different world-views, ages, et cetera, are doing a fine job in being honest, strict-but-not-too-strict-so-people-get-scared, and prompt in responding and acting. I've seen a lot of Forums that are far less busy being moderated very much worse. Moderating isn't easy, takes a lot of time and involves a lot of hard thinking and discussing things (I'm talking from experience here). So, you know, moderators, thanks for keeping this place friendly and welcoming to everyone: :urock:

MaryIsobel- 10-28-2007

I too applaud the mods, especially considering they are volunteers! I have a subject I would like to bring up for discussion on the forum but since if could be contraversial, I want to clear it with a moderator first and also would like direction as to which thread would be most appropriate. Who would be the best person for me to send a pm to about that?

saara_zaara- 10-28-2007

Hi, MaryIsobel, if you have a general idea of where the topic might go, look at the subforum listings - you'll notice that there are specific mods assigned to certain areas that they focus on, though we all try to cover the topics in general to provide backup - and pm one of them. If its a fairly general question or its urgent, look at who is on-line at the time (on the index page at the bottom, mods are marked in green or gold) & just shoot a message over to one of them. I'm around right now, so feel free to pm me (& FYI, I'm the troubleshooting/technical mod so if there's a post on this thread it usually alerts me first if I'm available - I've been gone this past week for work, so I'm just getting back on-line right now, & there are always backups in place). & thank you all, we appreciate the support :)

On a desktop, if I really want to, and move my head a lot to keep catching the best angles, I can sometimes read them. But since I don't want to read them, I don't do that. Spoilers in large type like this or ones in bold example of bold spoiler are easier to read but most people don't do that. And, normally sized and emphasized spoiler such as this one are not very easy to read unless I am determined to do so. It's funny, because I just noticed the other day that I could see spoiler text. I would have had to make an effort to read it, though. If this is a problem that is considered to need fixing, I think you could change the forum background color to white, or select a skin with a white background.

DIY Sheep- 10-28-2007

Thanks Peggy - one of the things we want are spoiler bars, but at the moment we are stuck with the white text. We are actually looking in to moving the server thingie to a blue/white layout and I think it may have spoiler bars too. But for the moment you must all resist the urge to squint at the computer while looking out of the corner of your eye.

I've got a question/comment about something that was also mentioned on, I believe, the episode thread by another poster. Namely ... can we require worksafe icons? I know that the most questionable icon -- the naked butts one -- belongs to one of the department heads, so perhaps the answer is an automatic "no," but still ... the poster on the other thread mentions she has young grandchildren around. I'm in an open office environment. It's one thing to have someone passing by my desk when normal icons are on the screen, but that one, in particular, could potential lead to me (and other users) having it banned at work. ETA: Someone else mentioned the work issue in the episode thread as well.

Thanks for the heads up people. We are having a chat about icons. We are all so used to the HoYAY it didn't even register that the boss might not be. I notice there haven't been any complaints about my lewd pictures of sheep. SheepYAY!
