Currently a little down with this pairing.
Feeling better, obviously.
But that confirms that Cuddy is officially fucked up, too. This will be good!
Yeah, when he said that he was the most screwed-up person in the world, I half-expected her to sigh and say, "Second-most. I want to be with you, so how normal am I?"
I never was really big on this pairing, but the potential for dysfunction and snark here is just *so* good. If nothing else, at least Lucas is gone.

Today I saw my psychiatrist. One of his specialties is going to disaster site (Katrina, earthquakes) and working with the victims to help them through the trauma. He's also a huge House fan, so usually five minutes of each session is given over to House discussion.
Anyway, he felt that the House/Cuddy finale scene was not well written, but when two people go through an experience like that, it creates a temporary sense of intense intimacy. I hadn't thought of it that way, but it makes sense. (Emphasis on temporary...although I am looking forward to how it plays out.)
ETA: Whatever happens, we know that House has got to be better in bed than Lucas!

Ah, the final scenes of Speed.
Actually, in this situation I think that applies more to House and Hanna. She was holding her husband's hand and looking only at House as she lay dying. I think that was definitely the result of the artificial intimacy forged while she was trapped. I also think House was very aware of that phenomena. He asked her name only to gauge her mental state and initially refused to tell her his name. He found her and left to get help rather than call. He gave her the IV and left again. He told her there was no phone reception so he wouldn't have to hear her conversation with her husband (he gave it to her after they had "bonded.") He was actively avoiding that emotional connection with Hanna.
House and Cuddy have been friends, allies, sparring partners and in lust with each other for two decades. The trauma of that day probably resulted in their admitting things they'd normally only own up to under torture and they may well regret that later, but I don't think it created the relationship.

Yeah, remember when Hanna asked House if they could be friends when she gets out of there? I remember thinking that she obviously bonded with House because of the situation, but it still made me smile that someone would want to be friends with this grumpy doctor they just met ;).

Thank you! All those people trying to argue away that there's something between House and Cuddy, it's getting really annoying. It's not like anyone ever said that Cuddy is the love of his life or anything. But she's clearly the one who triggered House's confusion (does he wanna be with someone, or is he better off alone?). And I think it's great that after all that time he finally opened himself up to the possibility of a relationship.
And also, what's up with people complaining that House is turning into Grey's anatomy? To me, House has always been about a misanthropic genius doctor and his attitude towards life, and now we're going to see a misanthropic genius doctor in a relationship, so what's the problem with that?
Whatever happens, we know that House has got to be better in bed than Lucas!
I might have to see that first, before I believe it...

And here's the other thing. House hasn't been involved in a romantic relationship (I'm not counting Lydia because it was short-lived) with anyone for over 6 years. It is only realistic that at some point he would have romance in this life. It would be unrealistic not to. That doesn't make it Grey's Anatomy.
I believe the events that took place made Cuddy finally realize that House is worth taking a chance with.We know he has been very clear with her that he wants her as his lover. Her blinders finally came off. I find it realistic and how she had been pushing him away as realistic, too.
I'm excited to see House and Cuddy in a relationship. There is lots of potential for drama and comedy. Someone else had mentioned that these two have spent more time out of a relationship than in one so I think it will be fun to watch them stumbling along the way. I may be in the minority but I think they have the potential of going the distance. It will be a little rocky along the way because they are strong-minded, independent, intelligent beings. But they already know each other pretty well and are attracted to each other. The potential is there to make it work and that is what I am rooting for.
Poeia- 05-26-2010
I'm not necessarily rooting for them to work -- even dysfuctionally. Beyond the House/Wilson friendship, I don't necessarily ship anyone with House.
But the possibilities of how they try, fail and succeed should be fascinating.
And, as a bonus, House will save lots of money once he's in a relationship rather than hiring hookers.

sdemar count me in among those who have different expectations when it comes to a House/Cuddy relationship. They can make it work without actually making it work conventionally - if that makes sense.
I am hoping and expecting their relationship to last, mostly because it is not expected to and, well, the writers might go for the unexpected this time. It took them 6 years to reunite these two characters amongst fear of shark jumping and what not. I honestly doubt it's going to be as straightforward as most think it will. The potential is there and it is a great one, imo.
I actually can't wait for S7.

To me the only way it can work is if they keep their relationship unconventional. That is how both operate. If they try to domesticate either of them, it will kill the relationship and have people crying foul.
I would hate to think TPTB spent all this time building toward this to have it quickly fall apart.

I think I love you. I'm more curious than anything else, now that I've gotten over my finale annoyance. It will be very interesting.
Anyway, my doctor was speaking of House and Cuddy, and his word is hardly law. We shall see. Also, he was quite tender with Stacy (briefly) in bed.

I agree.

Exactly. They have been in each other's orbit for so long. They have been drawn to each other for a reason, and it isn't just based on looks.
From the end scene, it looks like they are both going into this relationship with their eyes open. They know each other and can read each other. This is actually one relationship that I think could work for House and Cuddy both.
Although , maybe for drama's sake, they will start to feel they need to be more conventional and be normal, but eventually realize that normal doesn't work for them. Their relationship is different, but it is who they are.
Oh and about comparing House to Grey's Anatomy? So true. Once House starts sleeping with Cuddy, then breaks up with her to go out with 13, then suddenly declares that he is gay and goes out with Wilson but still sleeps with 13 or Cuddy....then you can compare it to Grey's Anatomy. However, the simple fact that these characters will have some romance in their lives do not make them Grey's Anatomy. I find it more unrealistic for them to go throughout the entire series without forming any sort of connection like that with someone. Especially someone with whom they work closely with every day for years.
This coming season, I am definitely excited about the possibilities of this relationship and seeing how they interact. Also, I'm very excited to see Wilson's reaction. He had been trying to push them together before Lucas.

Count me in the "I think they can last" team. It is a challenge for the writers to do so, since so many people think it will crash and burn. Trust the writers to do the unexpected : maybe House is such a good partner for Cuddy that she suddenly goes bored with him....
Maybe they can compete for the first "we have two majors characters in a relationship and still manage to keep the show endearing" contest.
Oh, and what is Grey's Anatomy, by the way?
Manu- 05-27-2010
I think that the fact that Cuddy is now willing - and seems ready - to have a relationship with House is a sign that, deep down, she has no expectations of a conventional relationship with him. She punished herself long enough by not being with him and by playing housewife with Lucas; she would not fool herself.
Also, I'm very excited to see Wilson's reaction
I wonder if House is going to tell him right away, like he did in BSN when he thought they got together.

So right. The preposterous aspect of "House" over these past six years was not that House and Cuddy wanted to get together, it was that they didn't do it long ago. "House" in no way ressembles "Grey's Anatomy" except that they are both set in contemporary hospitals staffed with impossibly beautiful doctors.
I see House as a disappointed romantic and Cuddy as a disappointed realist. Each has struggled to reconcile what they want from the world with what they have found to be the ugly truth of that world. So the chance to see them work together to try to form a union will be all kinds of intriguing, IMO.
I agree that Cuddy tried out all her fantasies for a conventional relationship over her time together with Lucas. She is not looking for a conventional match with House, which is fortunate because I don't see how he could provide one even if he tried. Both House and Cuddy are extreme people; they operate at the margins of convention in both their professional and personal lives. It will be fun to see how they push those boundaries in their romance.
My thought is that in her declaration to House in "Help Me" Cuddy provided a working template for the drama (and comedy) of season seven: "I know. I love you. I wish I didn't, but I can't help it."
These themes -- insight, love, chagrin, resignation, and determination -- are what will propel their romantic involvement for the next season, I believe. In following this love relationship, we will learn a lot more about the character of House, which is after all the point of the whole show.
Count me among those who want House and Cuddy to make a long run of it together. It would amuse me no end if their habitual defiance of stereotypes gets ample play along the way. These two are not just about the angst but also about the wacky and ribald. I want to see all of that.

That's nice. Can always use more love. :)

Count me in as one of the people who has never seen "Grey's Anatomy" or more than two episodes of "ER". Until "House", medical dramas bored me to tears. For the past year, it's been the only show I watch regularly (because that is the LAW in my home!).
The other reason is, if it isn't "House," it's my husband watching sports. Baseball, football, basketball, womens basketball, foreign baseball, minor league baseball...gaaa...
Oops, forgot to make this relevant! House/Cuddy {insert where appropriate}. Last year I was definitely a Huddy shipper, but this year all of the Hilson and lack of Cuddy made me go to the dark side.
