Third for Brass and fourth for Player Piano. Both excellent fics, albeit in very different ways.
(Anyone who is nervous about how their comments might sound can go and check mine out on both those fics. Incoherent rambling! Barely spelled correctly! Surely what you'd say wouldn't be any worse than the nonsense I wrote. :) )
Pish and tosh, Dee, you're always eloquent. I thank you and the other reccers and commenters! Seriously, I'm always glad to hear anything. Even a short comment makes my day.

Its come to my attention that Player Piano was lovelythings 75th House fic, and that Corgigirl, deelaundry & Nightdog all also reached that milestone recently as well - congrats to all on such a major milestone and such great fic to mark it.
Edited - apologies for the oversight of dee from the list, wasn't aware of that, thanks, lovelythings, for letting us know. :P

Dee did too!
Let's jam!

Can we have some sort of parallel party for people who reach 200,000 words? Because epic-writers aren't likely to make it to 75 fics in their lifetime, let alone during our stay in a fandom :S
misanthropicobs- 08-25-2007
As a nonwriter my attitude about the parties for writers achieving milestones either in number of words or number of stories is party all you want, that way I get more stories to read. Congrats to all of you.

Asynca, I know you were close to that with Essential Elements etc - did you hit that goal?? Absolutely we celebrate!
lovelythings- 08-25-2007
There's always room for more parties, Asynca!
To make this on topic, how about an oldie but goodie? goddesspharo'sWinged Cupid Painted Blind. Spoilers for "Act Your Age". House, Cuddy, Wilson, plays, and monster trucks. I love the structuredness of this piece (six drabbles) and the freeform content. There's vaguely!cultured!House and kitschy!Cuddy, and the reversal of the usual dynamic works quite well. Adorable.

There is a new section of Aftershocks up Nightfall. House's thoughts/feelings the 1st night at home.
You know, I really can't tell if this fic is horrible or absolutly funny, so I'll let you guys be the judge.
Okay, as a Dweller in Glass Houses when it comes to parody, I have to say: It is neither horrible nor particularly funny. It's stunningly mediocre, which means that it should net tons of reviews, at least from the HP fandom. /cynicism
The spelling and grammar are fine, the story progression a little above the usual OMGSugahHigh!, but the author misses the boat when it comes to humor, admittedly a very difficult genre to write in. She (or they, it's kind of hard to tell from the author notes) thinks that just throwing down characters doing over-the-top OOC action is enough to be clever. It's not.
I don't follow HP fanfiction at all, though Ron's character in this is just plain stupid, but the House characters in particular are painfully dull and two-dimensional, and too idiotic to be identifiable with their canon OR fanon versions. It makes me think that the author(s) of this fic are unable to write good in-character versions of either fandom.
If you don't understand the characters in their canon form, then you won't be able to write them in a parody, either.

I agree, about When Harry Met Greg. It's...not terrible. If it was supposed to be a serious fic it would be, of course. And it gets points for being a parody but not using intentionally bad spelling. But it's not particularly funny, either. Effective parody doesn't just string together cliches; it deploys them in a way that reveals something about the characters, the cliches, or something.
