Saying what the spoiler is about is in itself spoilery, Nighdog Barks. If there are any nonspoilery bits that could be quoted here that would be nice.
My apologies. Have whited out the possible spoiler.
The part of the interview that concerns House -- we have heard most of it before but it's interesting to hear it from Jacobson's POV.
Katie Jacobs, one of the executive producers of "House M.D.," said she had tried to get Jacobson on "House" for a while before he decided to audition for Dr. Taub.
"I actually offered Peter guest parts on 'House' in earlier seasons and he was always unavailable, which was great because if he had taken any of those, he couldn't have played Taub," Jacobs said. "When we had the idea to bring on an older plastic surgeon who wanted to make a change in his life and work for Dr. House, Peter was literally the first person who came to my mind."
Jacobson started on the show in Season 4 as one of 40 doctors vying for three spots on Dr. House's ( Hugh Laurie) new team.
During the first half of that season, Dr. House pared the 40 doctors to seven finalists. While the show's characters were trying out for the three available spots on House's team, the actors were auditioning for a spot as a series regular.
"Even when I was on the show, I was auditioning," Jacobson said.
"None of us knew who they were going to choose for the final team. I think at least five of us had signed contracts with the option to become series regulars, and they could choose any of us. It was at least four episodes of auditioning and not knowing who would be chosen."
"I remember him having a lot of anxiety when he first got on the show and hoping he would get the part," Walter Jacobson said. "I am so happy that he ended up being a regular."
Jacobs said a large reason they made Jacobson a part of the final team was his characterization of Chris Taub and the way he interacts with House.
"Taub gives a different perspective to the team. He is not as fresh out of school," Jacobs said. "He has a certain set of life experiences, so what the job on House's team means to him is very different from the other characters. He is also one of the only characters that is married, and it is interesting to look at how the job strains or adds to his marriage."
Jacobson said the tight-knit cast of "House" was very welcoming, even during the extended audition process.
"Obviously, it was an awkward situation for everybody because nobody knew who would make the team," Jacobson said. "When we finally knew who was going to become the new series' regulars, everybody just slid into this bigger cast. When a show is successful and then has to weather changes and shifts in personnel and style, it can be hard, but everybody involved in the show was willing to try something new."

"He will also continue to be the subject of much abuse from Dr. House. As much as Taub dislikes who House can be, Taub has had many opportunities to leave but he keeps coming back because, in the end, he really loves the work he does with House."
