I've begun to dread opening this section and seeing a new post in this thread. Henry Gibson was someone I haven't heard about in a very long time but it didn't matter. It was just nice knowing he was out there. I went looking for the lyrics or a clip of Keep A-Going but couldn't find one. He recited it as a nerd on the old Dick Van Dyke Show and sang it as a country song in Nashville. The closest I could come was this sample I also came across this unintentionally amusing video to his other song from Nashville. I have the feeling that he and the man who wrote There Ain't But One Way would appreciate each other.

We were watching The Blues Brothers last week and my husband was asking from where he knew the head Nazi from. Henry Gibson was great in that movie as well.

More sad news. Mary Travers has died of leukemia at age 72.

Chipmunk_love- 09-16-2009

Oh, that's so sad. Thanks to my mom, I was practically raised on Peter, Paul, and Mary.

More sad news. Mary Travers has died of leukemia at age 72. Oh damn! Will this endless parade of death never end? My mom raised me on Peter, Paul, and Mary too. (((folkie parents))) I feel like so many icons from my childhood/adolescence have died this year.

My parents had no idea who PP&M were. But I sure listened to them a lot in my teens. RIP Mary Travers.

Dear Death: Stop it. You're annoying me. Sad I loved him as a recurring judge on Boston Legal. He was fantastic on BL. Randomly, "the 'burbs" popped up on cable last weekend and when you pass by the "the 'burbs" you kind of have to stop. Totally underrated movie and he was awesomely creepy in it.

And for the sports fans among us: NCAA president Myles Brand passed away at age 67.

William Safire just died of pancreatic cancer. Isn't it about time for death to take a damn holiday?

fffaw- 09-27-2009

Oh boy. Unbelievable!

radiosweetheart- 09-27-2009

Not sure if he's going to take a holiday, but from the looks of it, he is planning to move sometime this winter. Very sad news about William Safire. Another great mind, gone.
