Just in time for them to completely redo the memorial segment on the Emmys. I never realized he wrote The Wrong Box. No wonder that was so funny. (Having Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Michael Caine, Ralph Richardson, Peter Sellers, John Mills and Wilfred Lawson in the cast had nothing to do with it, I'm sure.) We're losing some of the truly great ones this year.

One of the stories I saw on Army Archerd's death quoted Gelbart. Should be watching who's quoted in Gelbart stories for the third on this round?

radiosweetheart- 09-11-2009

You took the words right out of my mouth. Goodbye

Chipmunk_love- 09-11-2009

Not Gelbart! *sigh* Sad day.

radiosweetheart- 09-13-2009

These are the People Who Died Gotta admit I don't know much about Jim Carroll other than this song. I've been developing a bad habit lately of finding out about people after they've died. Like Dominick Dunne, didn't know much about him until after his death. So, guess I'll be heading to the library to check out the Basketball Diaries.

WTF!???!!! Don't tell me Jim Carroll died! Fuck! ETA: Anyone wanna place bets on whether or not Shane MacGowan makes it through the year?

radiosweetheart- 09-13-2009

Sadly, he died Friday in New York Oh come on, Sauty! Don't put thoughts like that into my head! I still hold hope I'll one day see him live. They're not strong hopes, but they're hopes nonetheless.

fffaw- 09-13-2009

DAMN IT. DAMN IT. DAMN IT. I'm really super bummed about this. Another part of my youth gone.

This is why I don't 100% object to films being made from classic (or "classic") books: without the early nineties movie I would not have been motivated to read TBD and wouldn't have known how awesome it was. Plus, in that case at least, it was an okay movie, so win/win.

fffaw- 09-14-2009

I've seen Shane MacGowan a few times - not sure if "alive" would be the operative word for it. One time that I saw him play, he was singing, and he casually leaned down, grabbed his empty pint glass, puked in it, set it down, wiped his mouth and went right back to singing. Oy. Shane MacGowan is another one who seems immortal. That he's still alive is nothing short of miraculous.

radiosweetheart- 09-14-2009

Well, that is just disgusting. Not at all surprising, however. Shane and Keith Richards should go on the "Pickled and Incoherent" Tour 2010. I would pay lots of money to see that show.

Chipmunk_love- 09-14-2009

*sigh* We knew it was coming: Fare thee well, Patrick Swayze

radiosweetheart- 09-14-2009

Aww, no surprise, but still sad to hear. He fought the good fight.

Housewhore4- 09-14-2009

Poor Patrick Swayze. 2009 just keeps getting suckier and suckier, what gives?

sautomne- 09-14-2009

Damn. RIP Mr. Swayze.
