All I've watched so far was the first episode. Cecily Tyson was an African princess or something and gave one of the worst performances I've ever seen. She's such a good actress that I couldn't believe that it was her.

This one sucks for fans of good TV writing: David Mills who wrote for such shows as Homicide, ER, NYPD Blue, The Wire and the upcoming Treme died of a brain aneurysm at age 49.

He will be missed. My brother adored The Wire. I just checked imdb and he actually wrote one of the few later seasons Homicide episodes I truly enjoyed: "Finnegan's Wake".
I was just coming to report that. I remember Bachelor Father -- him, his niece Kelly and his houseboy.
What a voice. He didn't need to appear on camera in Charlie's Angels. His voice, alone, gave the show some class.

Aw! Rest in peace, John Forsythe. :-(
filmlover- 04-03-2010
I think my favorite John Forsythe movie was "The Trouble with Harry." That was the first of his movies that I saw, and it is one of my favorites being a Hitchcock fan. I highly rec it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
RIP, Mr. Forsythe.

Wow. Malcolm McLaren, the founder/manager of the Sex Pistols, has died. (And on Vivienne Westwood's birthday, if NPR's birthday greetings for this morning were correct.)
I wonder what punk would have been like without McLaren around.

I was so shocked when I heard this. As one of my friends said "It seemed like he was indestructible" It sure did.
It said that he died of mesothelioma. That's usually caused by asbestos exposure. I mean, WTF?

That's what my dad died of without any known obvious (recent) exposure to asbestos. But, really, that shit can linger and it was suggested that he may have been exposed when he had a garbage route as a teenager. (Despite the fact he smoked his whole life.) Anyway. It happens.

I didn't realize that it could stick around in the body for a long time. That sucks.

Wow, this is so shocking. The President of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, his wife and 94 other dignitaries were killed in a plane crash in Russia. The story is here.
A huge blow for their nation - my thoughts are with the Polish people.

I just saw that this morning. It would be as if Air Force One crashed, while packed to the gills for a state visit.
Also, not to get into a political discussion here (there are plenty of those arguments to be seen in the comments of the linked item) but there's now a report that Alex Chilton hadn't sought medical advice for warning heart issues in part because he didn't have health insurance. Oy.

Oh no! Roger Ebert just tweeted that Dixie Carter just passed away. So sad. When I was a kid I loved to watch Designing Women. I idolized Julia Sugarbaker. She was such a classy lady and a spitfire too!

I absolutely adored Dixie Carter - she was always so elegant and hilarious. I loved Designing Women. :-(
