Every time this thread pops up I think that Dennis Hopper has died :(
Pernell Roberts
Adam was always my favorite Cartwright.
I have vague memories of watching Trapper John when I was a kid. I was endlessly confused as to how he was the same guy from M*A*S*H. How did he age so fast?
It took me until the show was long off the air to figure out that he wasn't the same guy from M*A*S*H. It was just the same character.
What do you expect? I was 8.
You're making me feel old, RSH.
And it's unfortunate that Pernell Roberts may well be noted more for the error of leaving a popular show, then struggling to get back, then for his roles at all. (He showed up on the list of actors making bad TV career choices along with David Caruso in the latest Entertainment Weekly.)

I know and that is so unfair. David Caruso broke his contract to leave after one year. Pernell Roberts did 6 years on Bonanza and then didn't sign a new contract. He was 36 years old and got tired of a part that consisted of saying "Yes, Pa" and "No, Pa."
But he was missed. He brought the only bite to that show. Adam disliked Little Joe and it used to be so much fun watching him snark and snarl at his baby brother.
I don't know if he was begrudged for wanting to leave, necessarily, it was just that he didn't seem to have a plan for what came next other than "I'm on the top show in the country, ergo I'll have people knocking down my door." I think that was his mistake. That was the same thing that Caruso did, believing that he was bigger than the show.
But then since I grew up the youngest in a family, I never got Adam anyway.
Adam was my fave too. Jean Simmons was one classy lady.
Another death: Rapper Apache of "Gangsta Bitch" fame
died on Friday.
Another author,
Howard Zinn, who wrote A People's History of the United States.
Actress
Zelda Rubenstein has died. Her most famous role was Tangina in Poltergeist.
Meant to post this earlier, but
James Mitchell (or as I always called him: Palmer Cortlandt) died on the 20th. He was 89. He was also openly gay, something I was surprised to find out. He and Opal were together for so long.
DAMN.
Howard Zinn died.

The death of J.D Salinger has just been announced.
A bad week for authors. Here's a
blurb about Salinger.
