My unpopular Torchwood opinions? Owen is my favorite character. I wouldn't say that I "like" him or would want to hang out with him in person, but an unrepentant bastard who despite himself still sometimes wears his heart on his sleeve? Oh yeah, love it. And while I loved Captain Jack on Doctor Who, I find him a little hard to handle as a lead character (and, for that matter, I find Barrowman the weakest actor of the bunch).
Sorry. At least I know they're unpopular.

No, no problem Namaste. I actually really like Owen too. My "unpopular" opinion is that I don't care for Ianto that much - too young, too quiet, too naive. And I want to see more developed of Tosh, not just the tech girl - tech girls all have a bit of hacker in them, so why not have Tosh flaunt that?
Jack was a little rough in S1 - and I think it's more because they didn't convey the fact that he had been "stuck" on Earth for over 100 years after being "dumped" by the Doctor. One thing I did notice about Jack so far in S2 is that he's lightened his mood a bit, the issues have been resolved and he found his Doctor. So here's hoping that because of that, S2 will be much better.

Not unpopular with me. IMO, Barrowman is a weak actor. I could barely stomach him on Doctor Who, so I knew that Torchwood would be intolerable.

Mod Post:
As us TW fans have completely taken over the Sci-Fi thread, us mods have decided to give us a little more room to spread out. So, welcome to the New Torchwood Thread here at HhoW. We’ve split the Sci-Fi thread and all our posts are here.
S2 Premiere on BBC America January 26th at 8/7 CST. Look for an even better name for this thread after the epi!

I like Owen too... he's just not my favorite character.
Namaste- 01-19-2008
So maybe my Owen like isn't that unpopular after all? I keep seeing references elsewhere in which they use "murderer" and "rapist" in every character description. I keep wondering if I've really missed something. (Though I'll admit I missed three or four episodes in the first season, though I just saw the second season opener.)

Namaste, Owen was definitely not my favorite character last season. But I do think that Burn Gorman is an excellent actor. In some some ways he's probably the best actor of the whole cast. So even though I dislike Owen, Burn Gorman is able to sell the character to me. I'm convinced that Owen has many facets to his personality. I just wasn't sure that TPTB were ever going to explore them. The new season gives me high hopes.

Did you see the first episode? He sprays uses some kind of alien-pheromone type spray on himself which cause people to lust after him. He picks up a woman and her boyfriend in a bar. Fans equated the spray with rohypnol and basically started referring to Owen as a rapist.

No, I didn't see the first episode. Of course I'm wondering if those fans are the same ones who'd called Chase a rapist for having sex with the methed up Cameron.
But you're right, it's Burn who sells me on Owen. On paper, Owen is much more difficult of a character, but with the right actor, even a bastard can be attractive. (Sound like some other British actor and a bastard character?)
First time I saw him was playing another type of creep in "Bleak House," and I was impressed with him then too -- the actor, not the character per se.

I love Owen because he's been such a sleaze, and then he found love with Diane, which, in my opinion, changed him to become more responsible by giving him something to fight for, something to make his reality more potent to him.
Tochwood was mentioned in this weeks Entertainment weekly. Love the description.
Must List - 10 Things We Love This Week:
"Torchwood, Season 1 on DVD. Imagine The X-Files if Mulder swung both ways, and you'd get this alien-chasing, bi-curious Doctor Who spin-off. Season 2 hits Jan. 26, so experiment now."
Bi-curious? *snerk*
arizonamyrie- 01-20-2008
Well, add in Marsters' quote of liking the poodle, and we've definitely got omnisexual going on the show.
Hail the Random- 01-20-2008
Just bi-curious? Really? *facepalm* They haven't seen much Torchwood then, have they?

I know, right? On this show, we're in love with everything.

I have to agree with you that Barrowman isn't the best actor they've got necessarily. But that is so not the reason I watch Torchwood. *g*
Yes, I really am that shallow.
Hail the Random- 01-20-2008
The other Mods got me turned on to Torchwood(shut up). They were going on and on about it and I just had to see what was so great about it.
I watch for Jack, Ianto, Tosh, Owen, Gwen(sometimes), various weapons, aliens who look almost but not quite realistic, Welsh accents, and the occasional Doctor Who reference. In other words, everything. :D
And I have to admit, it is fun watching the characters in pain.(Erg, that makes me sound so... masochistic? Just plain mean? Whatever, they pull it off really well.)
